What FAIR has done is to take some of the quotes Reaganaut cited in post #6 -- and those quotes are Lds leaders saying it's a valid prophesy.
Listen, FAIR has an "out" here by using the term "rumor":
On the one hand, it comes across as calming to fellow Mormons not to take this out of proportion...and it comes across PR wise to non-Mormons as "Hey, this is just a rumor...don't take it too far."
On the other hand, we all know that much content about rumors-in-general is true.
So, FAIR isn't necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with the content. They are simply trying to ride the fence and cover themselves when it doesn't come to reality; yet they can't deny what Lds leaders have said about it through the years.
One problem for FAIR in taking this stance? Well, somehow when Lds "prophets" and "apostles" speak, they're speaking forth "the voice of God." Except when it comes to things like The White Horse Prophesy, blood atonement, Adam is God, the curse of Cain upon skin color, Lamanites turning white & delightsome, etc.
(Why those are either "faith-promoting" or "faith deteriorating" rumors)
Understand their PR game now?
That was my impression, but I thought the wording of their position as a little odd. Matches the SOP for FAIR - waffle as necessary.
