Father Edward Schillebeeckx, an influential Dominican theologian, died at his home in the Netherlands on December 23 after a long illness at the age of 95. Born in Belgium, he was an adviser to the Dutch bishops during Vatican II.

Later his theological work emphasized the universal priesthood of the laity, to the extent that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a caution in 1986 that his theories were at odds with the teachings of the Church.

Hebrews 4:14
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Bless his heart. I’m sure it was trying to spell his name that turned his mind. May he rest in peace. At least he can do no more harm.

He’s going to have some explaining to do, I suspect.

Anyway, even though he was a bad shepherd who led his flock astray, I hope he made it to Heaven. We all have a lot to answer for.

Was he involved in the infamous “Dutch Catechism”?

In any case, may God have mercy on his soul!

...and now he “knows”!

May God be merciful to him. When alive, he was a Regional Manager for Millstone Salesmen. His own was as “ponderous” as Jacob Marley’s chain, no doubt. We should pray for his soul; I hope I can unclench my teeth enough while soing so to muster-up some semblance of sincerity.
