WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Michigan company has been inscribing references to biblical passages on sights for high-powered rifles used by the U.S. military, an investigation revealed.

Trijicon has a $600 million, multi-year contract with the federal government to produce the sights, used by U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and to train Afghan and Iraqi forces, ABC News's "Nightline" reported Monday.

U.S. military rules bar advocating any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan to prevent criticism that the united States was adding a religious element in its battle against Islamic insurgents, but Trijicon's sales and marketing director said the inscriptions "have always been there."

Wow. Biblical passages on rifle scopes? Unbelievable. Wonder if Barry Pepper, the sniper in Saving Private Ryan had a rifle scope with engraved bible passages?

The book “The Hidden War” by Aatyom Borovik about the Soviet war in Afghanistan talks of Soviet snipers having Psalms on there uniforms.

Seems that the Soviets never quite smashed religion as much as they wanted to.

This is really very cool! Other companies should do something like this...”easter eggs” for the serviceman/woman...a bit of spiritual inspiration.

HA HA HA, the muslims can come here and instult us, use our laws against us, make terror attacks, but we cannot help our military with bible inscriptions...when they are in battle? What a crock!!

The article doesn’t appear to list a single passage. The failure to do so makes me wonder if they are indeed NT references. I would guess a quote of David’s from the Psalms would be most likely. Or even something from Solomon (Ecclesiastes).

Hopefully the military will purge their inventory and sell them on the market for, say 10% of their cost. :)

Love to have one but they’re too expensive for me.
