Oprah Winfrey was surprised after her recent show featuring the Dominican Sisters of Mary when the sisters in the studio said they had a present for her. "No one ever gives me a present," the television star said. Then, as Sr. Teresa Benedicta related in a talk before a packed gathering at The Bean of Ave Maria Tuesday night, "the sisters gave Oprah a rosary, and taught her how to pray it. She seemed really interested."

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, is one of the fastest-growing orders of women religious in the United States. Founded 12 years ago, it now has 98 women and has run out of space at its mother house in Michigan, Sr. Teresa Benedicta said .

Hosted by "The Bean of Ave Maria" coffee house, town resident Sr. Theresa Benedicta captivated the group of more than 50 people attending the monthly meeting of the Ave Maria Founders Club with the story of her parents' conversion to Catholicism -- her mother was drawn into the Church by Alice von Hildebrand -- and her own call to religious life. Four sisters from this community live in Ave Maria, Florida, where 3 of them teach at the local Catholic K-12 school and one of them studies at Ave Maria University. Sister Theresa Benedicta explained that university founder Tom Monaghan's generous commitment up front (made to foundress Mother Assumpta Long) to fund the order for its first 7 years is what allowed the order to begin its important work.

Maybe she understands enough to take it back to her old pastor Jeremiah Wright and tell him where he went wrong.

Not sure if I follow you.

These sisters are as devout as they come. They reached out to an influential media figure who generously and accurately (much to my surprise) highlighted their vocation and commitment to God on her national program.

They evangelized her and witnessed to her. Which is beautiful.

I’m SO thrilled and impressed with all
Tom Monaghan has created in Ave Maria.

My good friend is in Naples for the month,
and attended the Latin Mass at Ave Maria.
She said the place is SO beautiful .. you
feel the sense of overwhelming spiritual
peace and serenity in the church, and the
statuary and appointments are glorious.

He truly is building the town of yesterday’s
moral and Catholic values .. something SO
dearly missing in our culture.

God bless him!

Thanks for posting, Not !
