This is bad news for those who have hope for Notre Dame University.
Dr. Charles Rice has been writing a column for the Notre Dame Observer for many years. But this week, the editors refused to run his column on the Church's teaching on homosexuality. Joe from Defend Us In Battle writes:
Notre Dame... fails again.
This is hitting just now in a few well respected Catholic News outlets:
Dr. Charles Rice (Notre Dame Law School - Bio) recently wrote a column/piece for the Notre Dame Observer, as he does every few weeks. The topic this week is: The Church's Teaching On Homosexuality. Only... this week they didn't print it.
Here is the article: Dr. Rice's - "Right or Wrong?" Column: March 1, 2010 - Homosexuality.
The Editor of the Observer didn't print it for a variety of reasons...or so they say. None of the listed reasons was legitimate.

ND should be changed to VD (”Votre Dame” = “Your Lady”).
Ave Maria University is Our Lady’s university.
I call them as I see them:
Notre Dame University can no longer be considered “Catholic” in the sense of being faithful to long established Catholic Teachings.
Any family wanting to provide a Catholic University education for their children would do well to pass over Notre Dame University! IMHO
Let the flaming begin - but “what is” IS!
Univ. of Notre Dame: that ain’t no Lady.
Ping.
I’m very sorry to hear about this.
If you follow the links, you can read the email exchange between Professor Rice and the student editor. And you can also read Rice’s original article on homosexuality—which I found to be entirely orthodox, completely documented, and inarguable—including the discussion at the end on how the contraceptive culture led logically to the spread of the gay movement.
I’m very much afraid that the administration will support the student editor’s position, and that this may end up with Professor Rice ceasing to write his excellent and very readable bi-weekly columns for the student paper. I hope that is not the outcome.

Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for the info, which saddens me. I will think of some response tomorrow, after I pray. Right now I’m finding it just unfathomable.
Jenkins will be onto this and will straighten it out in a jiffy! < /s>
my son is a N.D. alum...he came out O.K. probably because I am a conservative nut who pounded my values into his head from age 1 month until now!!!I sent back to N.D. one of their recent fund raising letters, just after the Obama fiasco, expressing my furor with their decision, not to have him speak....he is the president, but to give him the honor of a degree. To their credit, I got a decent letter from them making a feeble attempt to justify their decision. I will now make a copy of that letter and send it back to them with these new allegations. I will no longer contribute to their “Catholic” school ( and I have sent in substantial contributions over the years) I appreciated what they had done for my son years ago....but this left leaning nonsense that is now going on is beyond the pale.
Notre Dame stopped being Catholic a long, long time ago.
I think the "Observer" is an independent newspaper, so there's probably not a lot he could do even if he wanted to.
Not that he wants to or anything like that, mind you.
But..but... but I thought Liberals were against censorship.
