James 2:24 See how person is justified by works and not by faith alone. Paul in his letters is talking about the temple works that are going on as he wrote those letters. The animal sacrifices and such which is not happening in today’s world any more.The old testament works with the 613 mosaic laws are done. But christian works are explained in The book of james.

I don’t have a problem personally with his being an ex-addict. I know other Christians who have been delivered from addictions. After all, Christ IS the Redeemer. I do hope he is delivered from the chains of Catholicism and his Mary fixation.

I think it may be as simple as they are stuck on the wrong side of The Cross.
Tragic mistake made by those who love their own works...and one can always tell who loves their own works: The writer always points out that faith alone will not save.
Read the letter apart from the snippets offered in homilies and you will notice (perhaps not) that James is admonishing those that claim their faith need not produce any fruit (since faith itself is invisible) are fooling themselves. The faith that saves produces works that are appropriate to salvation.
But, the Roman organization has turned this on its head and made faith and works equal and the initiators of salvation. Read your post and smell the connection. Real works are always the product of a faith that is real, but the Roman CC teaches works induces faith, a concept entirely foreign to James and certainly Paul.
No question, faith that is alive will produce works. But, works that are alive will not produce faith. To miss this important progression is to twist the gospel into the heretical message the Roman Catholic Church promotes. That is not the Gospel, at all, but a self-made religion.
Faith, the free gift of grace by God Himself, given to those elected before the foundation of the world will produce works. That is what you are observing here...dozens of folks working hard to bring light to the darkened corners developed by Rome. You are seeing works produced by faith.

A very profound way of identifying the problem. Indeed, when a person is "...stuck on the wrong side of the Cross." they must fawn over their accomplishments (or admire the accomplishments of others) to amplify and elevate the value of those works until they seem valuable enough to merit salvation. This malady comes in a thousand varieties, but it is all the same error...stuck on the wrong side of the Cross. Thanks.
Peter did not believe this, He simply saw himself as an elder. The 1st church council was overseen by James not Peter.. . and he was CERTAINLY not infallible in matters of faith and doctrine
There is no scripture giving the apostles permission to appoint apostles as successors..
There is no apostolic success in the NT, there is no Priesthood in the new church, there is no papacy in the new church..

The reformation came to be because of the errors and heresies that had entered into the church. And the errors not only persist, they grow with each newly discovered spiritual truth that stands without any support.

the word DOUEY RHEIMS translates as penance is
metanoeō
1) to change one's mind, i.e. to repent
2) to change one's mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins
The greek word is not Penance it is repentance..
Both of these posts (#74 & #78), offer clear, persuasive rebuttals to the RCC silly claims that Peter was an original “pope” or that the Scriptures support an ongoing “penance”. While these may continue to fall on deaf ears of Catholics (proving only God can open hearts and minds), the rest of us appreciate the great information.
And about now certain RCs will ask if I have a “gerbil in my pocket.” This is apparently their idea of evangelism.
I never thought of it that way before. Good insights.
