Chief exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth says Devil is in the Vatican
Times ^ | 3/10/10 | Richard Owen

Posted on 03/10/2010 10:17:50 AM PST by Wontsubmit

Sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof that that "the Devil is at work inside the Vatican", according to the Holy See's chief exorcist.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican's chief exorcist for 25 years and says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession, said that the consequences of satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon".

He added: "When one speaks of 'the smoke of Satan' [a phrase coined by Pope Paul VI in 1972] in the holy rooms, it is all true – including these latest stories of violence and paedophilia."

He claimed that another example of satanic behaviour was the Vatican "cover-up" over the deaths in 1998 of Alois Estermann, the then commander of the Swiss Guard, his wife and Corporal Cedric Tornay, a Swiss Guard, who were all found shot dead. "They covered up everything immediately," he said. "Here one sees the rot".

If Cardinal Bernard Law, former Cardinal of Boston, guilty of aiding homosexual pedophile priests is who he is referring to , I would saw he is spot on.

Well, since part of Satan's work is, let us say, new business-oriented, it makes perfect sense that he would target the Vatican and other locales where those doing God's work are located.

It's not like he's needed in Hollywood, on Capital Hill, or in the Obama WH. His agents there seem to be proceeding quite nicely without his close personal supervision.

Satanic behavior in the Catholic Church, absolutely!

Priests that do not know Jesus as their Savior and Lord, absolutely!

Before I get slammed for Catholic bashing, this is also true in all the main line denominations. But since the story is about the Catholic Church....

The politics of electing a pope on the 3rd ballot etc. The idea that the Pope himself does not come out and say that he is just a man, and this business that the Pope is infallible, nothing in my Bible about that.

The fact that they will not come out and stand up for the unborn in a real way. Some/few Bishops have, but we have never heard this from the Pope. Someone will tell me the Pope has, but he really has not, none of the Popes have had the courage to risk losing members and losing financially at the collection plate.

The Catholic Church should stand strong for the unborn to the point that they say, you are not welcome in the Church if you vote Democrat, or for candidates that support abortion/homosexuality. Catholics that go home to a Clinton or Obama sign on their front yards, should be dealt with.

The gay sex scandals of the Church most certainly are from demonic activities IMHO.

The idea of someone becoming a Priest or a Minister without first asking Jesus into their life is not a good thing.

I know many wonderful Catholic Priests, that are filled with the Spirit, but I think overall this is the exception to the rule.

I remember one time the Pope came to North America, he addressed “young Catholics” I always felt what a lost opportunity that he did not instead address “young Christians”

The idea that the Pope himself does not come out and say that he is just a man

As opposed to what?

and this business that the Pope is infallible

Do you even know what that means? It doesn't mean he doesn't sin, or that he does everything perfectly, or anything like that.

All it means is that he won't definitively teach heresy to the entire church.

Read a few of the comments after the story. Very revealing about the state of religion in UK. It amazes me how many people have been duped into believing that the devil does not exists. May God have mercy on them.

I had a close friend who was a Catholic Exorcist. He told me stories I cannot, nor will not repeat here.

He died in despair and horror. I pray daily that God, in His mercy healed his tortured soul.

Been a while since I was Catholic, but infallability only applies when he speaks ‘ex Cathedra’ (from the Chair).

Seem to remember that being the case.

There’s a book called ‘Hostage to the Devil’ by Fr. Malachi Martin which depicts in detail the sacrifice of exocists - of the toll they take.

The book actually ends with the death of an exorcist, and it makes the first horrible incidents worth reading through, because of the relief brought by death and the perspective gained by the various ‘holes’ through which demonic possession may occur.

The Catholic Church deserves so much credit for actually taking Satan seriously, and for calling out the reality of the fact that we were born into a war between Heaven and Hell.

Yes, my understanding is that the exorcists are sort of trapped between a modern world that denies demons exists and scoffs at such “medieval notions” as possession, and what they experience when treating people. Even the Catholic Church pretty much hides exorcists and exorcism from public view. I understand that what those poor priests experience brings many to the brink of insanity and spiritual isolation. I just pray that God grants them an extra portion of grace for standing up to what the rest of the world shrinks in horror from.

I found this quote interesting.

He approves, however, of the 1973 film The Exorcist, which although "exaggerated" offered a "substantially exact" picture of possession.

It goes along with my opinion that The Exorcist is one of the very last movies made where Catholic Priests are depicted as real people, and heroes. As hard as the movie is to watch, and as much baggage as it carries, it's actually a very well made movie and the priests are portrayed very well.... as honest-to-God MEN, not as nursery school psychologists, which is what today's priests are portrayed as in film.... if they're lucky.

I'm tempted to swipe that for a tagline but I really don't want to offend any of our Catholic friends. Considering the date of it, I'm actually trying to figure out a paraphrase that works a bit better for our times.

The Devil knows scripture better than most of us, you know. I'm not sure but I think I met him in Sunday School a couple of years ago. He's well-dressed too.

Funny, I just got back from reading the Amazon material. Great minds, eh?

Not enough around about the role of Satan in modern Christian living. Completely ignored topic.

I can’t remember to whom I was talking about an experience this person had in a jungle in I believe it was Indonesia, about smoke coming from this man’s nose and mouth - being possessed, and having watched a demon exorcised by this witch doctor.

There’s a similar anecdote to open the Martin book, only it was in China, I believe.

I read Fr. Martin's book back in '88 IIRC and don't remember too many details.

I remember reading it while staying at a bed and breakfast in Connecticut. I would leave the book outside on the veranda at night instead of on the night stand (it scared the h$ll out of me).;-)

Sum of All Fears by Clancy did that to me staying in a B&B in the UK.

Worth another read. Once you understand how he structures the book, you can skip the literally gory details and see the patterns. The important part of each incident is how it happens, and what happens to the exorcist in each case.

Each case is completely different in what leads to possession. He also picks two cases where priests were possessed. He picks a case involving perfect possession.

In the end, he shows what happens to the poor exorcist. Very uplifting, oddly enough, and does WONDERS for how you look at your relationship with God.

I didn't know that about Sum of All Fears...I will get it!

BTW, after thinking about Peck and Martin and evil, it dawned on me that what we are seeing in the White House in the way that Obama wants to force his will on the nation with Obamacare is completely consistent with the behavior of a malignant narcissist (many here have raved about his narcissism from the beginning...including me).

Here's an old Peck quote from People of the Lie about narcissism...

We can see then, that their narcissism makes the evil dangerous not only because it motivates them to scapegoat others, but also because it deprives them of the restraint that results from empathy and respect for others....The evil need victims to sacrifice to their narcissism, their narcissism permits them to ignore the humanity of their victims as well. ..The blindness of the narcissist to others can extend beyond a lack of empathy; narcissists may not "see" others at all.
The reason Obama wants to ram down this legislation is because he can't actually SEE the people. Despite his protestations...it is, of course, all about him!

Of course, this is nothing new to those of us at FR, but never ceases to amaze me how Obama's mental illness (narcissism being only one of his disorders) is playing out.
