Today, On Good Friday, Here's Why I Remain Catholic
NPR (yes, *that* NPR) ^ | April 2, 2010 | Elizabeth Scalia

Posted on 04/02/2010 11:20:29 PM PDT by grey_whiskers

Elizabeth Scalia is a contributing writer to First Things Magazine as the blogger known as The Anchoress.

The question has come my way several times in the past week: "How do you maintain your faith in light of news stories that bring light to the dark places that exist within your church?"

When have darkness and light been anything but co-existent? How do we recognize either without the other?

I remain within, and love, the Catholic Church because it is a church that has lived and wrestled within the mystery of the shadow lands ever since an innocent man was arrested, sentenced and crucified, while the keeper of "the keys" denied him, and his first priests ran away. Through 2,000 imperfect — sometimes glorious, sometimes heinous — years, the church has contemplated and manifested the truth that dark and light, innocence and guilt, justice and injustice all share a kinship, one that waves back and forth like wind-stirred wheat in a field, churning toward something — as yet — unknowable.

Cheers!

...and Happy Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and EASTER!

(I can recommend the Anchoress as a good website, btw).

I'm afraid I haven't followed too closely which of you are Catholic or not, but all of you seem to be notedly Christophilic.

Hence the ping.

Read the whole article: if you like it surf on over to The Anchoress.

If not, surf on over there anyway. :-)

And Happy Good Friday & Holy Saturday...counting down to Happy Easter.

BTTT!

Wondering if she is realated to Justice Scalia of the SCOTIS and/or his son, Father Paul Scalia, a Catholic Priest.

Justice Scalia jokes about calling his son, “Father!”

Make that SCROTUMS (Supreme Court, Rulers of These United Metrosexual States).

In keeping with that whole "teabagging" meme, don't you know...

Cheers!

As a child... the Church established a relationship for me with Jesus. The path to follow Him is in my heart and I walk it every single day of my life.

The problem is with man, Not the Church.

I stay Catholic because it is the true Church.

If I see a Priest who has used the Church to gain for himself I condemn that false priest, not the Church.

The leaders of the Church in many cases have led the church badly.Even that is not the fault of the Church, but the fault of it;’s leadership.

1 Cor 5:2,5-7,13
(Phi) Are you still proud of yourselves? Shouldn't you be overwhelmed with sorrow? The man who has done such a thing should certainly be expelled from your fellowship... the man should be left to the mercy of Satan so that while his body will experience the destructive powers of sin his spirit may yet be saved in the day of the Lord. Your pride in yourselves is lamentably out of place. Don't you know that a little yeast can permeate the whole lump? Clear out every bit of the old yeast that you may be new unleavened bread!... It is your plain duty to expel this man from your fellowship!

Thank you so much for this, whiskers. What a clearly-thought and deeply heart-felt piece of writing from The Anchoress.

We'e still in Holy Saturday: a day of stillness and shakenness, when each person is wandering off on his or her own sad way, the eyes and mind acheing with the realization that the Lord's Body -- His Corpse---is cold, clayey, and unresponsive in the tomb, and the Lord's Spirit is the Lord knows where, and what has happened is at once solemn, bowel-churning, and incomprehensible.

Waiting to see what happens now.

I peeked at the end ... the Good Guy wins! He even picks up all the bodies and gives them Eternal Life, unlike at the end of a Louis L’Amour novel.
