Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem~The Book of Ruth
Conclusion

Shavuot/Pentecost

Pieter Lastman ca. 1583 – 1633
Ruth Declares her Loyalty to Naomi

The Book of Ruth
Chapter Four

The Marriage of Ruth

1. Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there, and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz spoke was passing by, so he said, "Turn aside, friend, sit down here." And he turned aside and sat down.

2. He took ten men of the elders of the city and said, "Sit down here." So they sat down.

3. Then he said to the closest relative, "Naomi, who has come back from the land of Moab, has to sell the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech.

4. "So I thought to inform you, saying, 'Buy it before those who are sitting here, and before the elders of my people If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if not, tell me that I may know; for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am after you.'" And he said, "I will redeem it."

5. Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance."

6. The closest relative said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, because I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, for I cannot redeem it."

7. Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning the redemption and the exchange of land to confirm any matter: a man removed his sandal and gave it to another; and this was the manner of attestation in Israel.

8. So the closest relative said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself." And he removed his sandal.

9. Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses today that I have bought from the hand of Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and Mahlon.

10. "Moreover, I have acquired Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, to be my wife in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance, so that the name of the deceased will not be cut off from his brothers or from the court of his birth place; you are witnesses today."

11. All the people who were in the court, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built the house of Israel; and may you achieve wealth in Ephrathah and become famous in Bethlehem.

12. "Moreover, may your house be like the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the offspring which the LORD will give you by this young woman."

13. So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.

14. Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed is the LORD who has not left you without a redeemer today, and may his name become famous in Israel.

15. "May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him."

The Line of David Began Here

16. Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse.

17. The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!" So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18. Now these are the generations of Perez: to Perez was born Hezron,

19. and to Hezron was born Ram, and to Ram, Amminadab,

20. and to Amminadab was born Nahshon, and to Nahshon, Salmon,

21. and to Salmon was born Boaz, and to Boaz, Obed,

22. and to Obed was born Jesse, and to Jesse, David.

Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem~The Book of Ruth
Conclusion

Shavuot/Pentecost

"Boaz" by Micaelangelo Buonarotti
Sistine Chapel

Oh LORD, Our God, How Excellent is Your Name over all the Earth! How Marvelous, How Glorious, and How Magnificent!
It is You Who created the Bright and Dark Stars,
The Galaxies and the Singularities,
The Quasars and the Clusters,
That man in his hubris are only now just discovering!
They are Your Artwork, Your Passing of the Time, Your Creation For The Pleasure of Your Eternal Mind!
And Yet, in Seeing the End From The Beginning,
And the Beginning From The End,
You have not only Provided for these two widows,
But Made them The Grandmothers of the Author of Psalms,
And Eventually, The Author and Finisher of Our Faith!
And Then, on Top of That,
You Documented the Story,
Not Only to protect The Claim of the People of Israel,
But to Teach and Comfort Us in These Cruel and Wicked Times!

3. Then he said to the closest relative,
"Naomi, who has come back from the land of Moab,
has to sell the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech.

4. "So I thought to inform you, saying,
'Buy it before those who are sitting here,
and before the elders of my people If you will redeem it, redeem it;
but if not, tell me that I may know;
for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am after you.'
" And he said, "I will redeem it."

5. Then Boaz said,
"On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi,
you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess,
the widow of the deceased,
in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance."

6. The closest relative said,
"I cannot redeem it for myself,
because I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself;
you may have my right of redemption,
for I cannot redeem it."

How often we want to Draw Water From the Well of Salvation,
Without accepting the responsibilities that go with it!
To Freely Accept Your Grace,
And then go on with our lives,
Reaping the Benefits of Your love, Without Loving in Return!
Let us never be like the "Nearest Relative",
Who was delighted to accept the land and the inheritance,
but not willing to love Ruth and raise children for his dead brother.
Let us instead be like Boaz,
Who, although he was a little older,
was so head Over Heels in LOVE with Ruth,
that he would have married her,
even if there had been no land or inheritance involved!
Abba, Let Our Relationship with YOU be Like That!
That we should Love You With Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Mind, and Our Whole Strength,
And if Blessings Come as a result, So Be It!

11. All the people who were in the court,
and the elders, said,
"We are witnesses.
May the LORD make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah,
both of whom built the house of Israel;
and may you achieve wealth in Ephrathah and become famous in Bethlehem.

12. "Moreover, may your house be like the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah,
through the offspring which the LORD will give you by this young woman."

13. So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife,
and he went in to her.
And the LORD enabled her to conceive,
and she gave birth to a son.

Even Though Ruth had been Married almost ten years in Moab,
Both she and her Sister-In-Law Orpah had remained Childless.
Now, not only was she Blessed with a son, but he was to be the progenitor of the Royal Line of King David of Israel!
Father, teach us to Trust in You, and to be Patient regarding Your Promises!
For Your Promises are Always True,
And Your Word Abides Forever!

14. Then the women said to Naomi,
"Blessed is the LORD who has not left you without a redeemer today,
and may his name become famous in Israel.

15. "May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age;
for your daughter-in-law,
who loves you and is better to you than seven sons,
has given birth to him."

Dear Abba, We Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, And for those within her gates.
Almighty God, We pray so Fondly for Your Beloved!
We Pray that as You Call Them Home,
from the East and From The West,
From The North and from the South,
From Out of the Lands of persecution and Bitterness,
Of Paganism and Slavery and Bondage,
Of places that were never really home to them,
Places that only brought famine, infertility,
widowhood, and abandonment,
and bring them Home to Peace and Abundance
and Your Provision.

We ask for forgiveness for ourselves,
Dear Father, and we Pray for Our Nation.
We ask You to reverse the trends of evil and selfishness
that have taken hold in our own Land.
We beg that You will restore Faith in You,
The One True God,
and that Our own Nation will Once Again be Known
as one who keeps Her Promises to Her Friends and Allies,
and NOT as A Truce-Breaker.

Abba Father, How we long for that Day,
When You will remove From Your Holy Place
ANYTHING that does not Honor You,
and You ALONE.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel, and For The Jewish People.
We Thank You Profoundly For That Tiny Nation
that sits at the Very Crossroads of History,
At the Nexus of Three Continents,
A Holy Witness to The Ultimate Truth of Your WORD!
For it is Not By Might,
Not By Power,
But By Your Spirit that the enemy will be overcome.

We Plead For Israeli Control Over All the Holy Sites in Israel,
So that People of All Faiths may visit them.
We Pray For Bibi Netayahu, and the Leaders of Israel
May They Receive Wisdom from You to do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Thread

Today is Pentecost on the Christian Calendar.
It is also the day that we Conclude the Book of Ruth,
Which is a Traditional Reading for The Jewish Festival of Shavuot, which is the Origin of Pentecost.

Come and Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, on this Special Day.

Psalm 114

God’s Wonders at the Exodus

1When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2Judah became God’s* sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.

3The sea looked and fled;
Jordan turned back.
4The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs.

5Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
6O mountains, that you skip like rams?
O hills, like lambs?

7Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8who turns the rock into a pool of water,
the flint into a spring of water.

There will be no peace in Yerushalayim, until the Prince of Peace reigns over her.

WOW, Jackv, just as I was posting this, I remembered that The Tomb of David (pictured earlier in this Thread) is in the Same Building as the Room built on the Purported Site of the "Upper Room", where the Pentecost of the Apostles took Place!

When I visited that building during Sukkot 1984, I didn't even make the connection between Shavuot, Ruth, King David, and Pentecost!

In fact, I posted the picture of King David's Tomb even before I made the Connection.

When these "Connections" happen, it is like being "pinged" by The Holy Spirit!

An interesting discussion of Levirate marriage.

Ruth is a small book but full of knowledge
for us to understand YHvH's love for us.

Shavuot is the giving of the Torah and the Ru'ach.

Thank You, ConorMacNessa, and May You have a Blessed Pentecost.

If I may share this little fact on Your Reply:

Along with Christmas and Easter, Pentecost is one of the Holiest Festivals on the Traditional Christian Calendar.

The "Lectionery", or Cycle of Readings for the Calendar Year, divides the year into the Sundays leading up to Christmas (Advent), The Sundays leading up to Easter (Lent),Pentecost, and the Sundays AFTER Pentecost. There are, of course, other Special Sundays, but the general outline is the same for Roman, Anglican, Eastern Rite, and Mainline Protestant Communions. Evangelicals are not as much into "Calendar Observances", as they tend to be less Liturgical in their Worship, but the IDEA of Pentecost is Still very Important to them.

Whatever one's background may be, Historically, Pentecost is a PIVOTAL Day in the Christian World-View.

And it all goes back to Shavuot!

Here is an interesting fact:

Back in the Days when the USSR was persecuting Christians, the Government referred to ALL Evangelicals, Baptists, Charismatics, "Born-Agains", and Bible Believers as:

"Pentecostals"
