Ping. Sad to see they’re going to have to let a lot of their classic Books of Common Prayer go as part of this fire sale. Actually even the 1979 prayer book services at National Cathedral have been “adapted” well beyond the rubrics on a typical Sunday morning.

Why not auction the books with the stipulation that they be on permanent and perpetual loan to the Cathedral?

"What they're experiencing at the cathedral is what is happening in most Episcopal churches across this country," he said. "The economic downturn ripples from the very top to the smallest parishes." Nonsense! It isn't the economy that has driven everyone away from the Episcopal church, it is the anti-Christian activities of that church.

It is all part of the Left’s “Assault on Christianity.” Maybe Obama will establish a National Mosque.

Maybe Obama will establish a National Mosque. I thought he had already turned the White House into one...

The liturgist at the cathedral is teaching Arabic classes and taking orders for turbans, just in case.

I’d buy something, and would proudly display it and tell everyone where I got it. Those books should go to people who will cherish them.

It makes perfect sense. Since the “Spirit” is doing a new thing, anything old is of course patriarchal, homophobic and oppressive and must be eliminated. These people don’t give a darn about tradition or history.

You’re joking, but you’re not too far off.

I was under the impression that Kathy Schori, Vickey Jean, and Mary Glasspool would solve this problem by the practicing the doctrine of inclusivity which is demanded by all of the politically correct. It appears that the deemed âChurch In Crisis as nominated by the liberal press is not the one in true crisis but instead true crisis reigns in the inclusive church. Why is this so?

They have become the Church of the High Holy Lesbian - seems they refuse to even talk about Jesus at the National Cathedral, so I doubt they even have a congregation any longer.

About 25 years ago, I worked in a building that shared office space with the headquarters of a very Prominent Protestant Denomination.
One Day, as I was taking some trash out to the dumpster, I found boxes of old books being discarded.
I grabbed the boxes and brought home several King James and RSV Bibles, Greek and Hebrew Interlinear Texts, Complete Matthew Henry Commentaries, Strongs Concordance, Multiple Bible Encyclopediae and Dictionaries, Prayer Books and Hymnals, and other rare and old Bible-centered Books.
God only KNOWS what the denomination is using NOW!

The officials are in discussions with the Folger Shakespeare Library, which, with its internationally known conservation department, could possibly better preserve the fragile pages and make the tomes available to scholars. Good idea.
The cathedral's chief operating officer, Kathleen Cox, said the possible book sale, as well as measures such as eliminating financial support of a global poverty program ...
Uh-huh.

Being a DC area native, I have fond memories of visiting the still-in-construction cathedral as a kid. I also happened to be there when President George H. W. Bush laid the last capstone "officially" finishing it's 80+ year construction (of course no cathedral is ever completely finished...). Still the Episcopal Church unfortunately is leading many people to Hell...and this is extremely sad.
One interesting part of the architecture--added very late (in the 80s or 90s) to me symbolizes TEC's direction:
This sculpture above the main entrance to the cathdral is called, ironically, I think, "Creation" even though it bears no resemblance to the biblical account.
It does however bear a resemblence to this account in the Apocalypse of St. John (Revelation):
"And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." (Rev 20:15)

I believe that to be true in many, if not most instances. However I heard from a friend that the Episcopal Church in Edenton, NC, has doubled in size in past 10 years and continues to grow.

I don’t know that Church, but it’s almost certainly with a dynamic orthodox/evangelical pastor and vestry. There are a few of those within TEC that have been allowed to survive and thrive...
It’s almost unheard of for a typical liberal mainline congregation to grow a lot. Without the good news of Jesus, church becomes a rather unexciting social club.
If the main message of the service is, “you’re a good person, now go out and be a good person to others...” one can easily sleep in on Sunday mornings, without needing to hear such pap.
