Queen of controversy Lady Gaga is making headlines for yet another racy video featuring highly sexualized material combined with religious imagery. But while some argue Gaga has crossed the line between edgy and tasteless, her use of distorted Catholic imagery speaks to a rising trend in Hollywood.
The pop princess, real name Stefani Germanotta, recently released the music video for her single “Alejandro” and has sparked quite the outcry given its saturation of controversial imagery, including her swallowing rosary beads in a latex-version of a nun’s habit, holding the crucifix in front of her crotch and simulating group sex with a bunch of beefed-up men, who are nearly naked save for underwear and high heels.
Even fellow songstress Katy Perry, who comes from a religious upbringing, hinted her disdain for the music video last weekend when she tweeted, "Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.”

I hate these things. Not because they would damage religion itself, or God, in any way. But they betray an utter disrespect/hate for others’ deep and most private feelings. I see Madonna, GaGa and their ilk as mere narcissists, loveless and meaningless mental midgets.

“Lady GaGa” - (what is lady-like or “gaga” about her???) is a repetitive purveyor of sex-injected crappy and unoriginal pop music.
At least she has come right out and said publicly she doesn’t condone it. More than can be said about the rest of entertainment industry.
I give her props for doing so, even if she did sing about kissing a girl.
The gay community actually trashed her for the song.
Doing so just makes her a hypocrite. It’s not like she’s a role model of Catholic piety...
Her music, her actions, the way she dresses, and her shacking up with the anti-American Russell Brand all betray her Catholic heritage.
The irony is that the church gave her the opportunity to develop her singing talent.
She’s really “pushing the envelope” there. /s
