Presbyterian USA : Misrepresenting Christian Values
Amerisrael ^

Posted on 06/17/2010 3:52:52 PM PDT by Amerisrael

Ryan Jones, who now writes for Israel Today, wrote an excellent article he posted on his old website Zionist.com back in August 2007 entitled:

"Misrepresenting Christian Values"-here is a little of what he wrote:

"The peripheral left-wing Christian group Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) is calling on American Christians to reclaim what it calls “Christian values” by siding with its un-biblical policy of pressuring the US government to more rapidly implement the division of the Land of Israel. "

"Ignoring polls that show the vast majority of Americans side with the Christian Zionist view that a Palestinian state should not be created on Israel’s ancient heartland, CMEP claims to represent the sensibilities of mainstream Christianity in America.--read the full article here."

CMEP is far from representing mainstream Christianity, or Biblical Christianity, to be more accurate.

CMEP has been written about on this blog more than once. See here, here, and here.

And the Presbyterian USA denomination is one of their board members.

As well as the United Church of Christ, the denomination of Obama's former church in Chicago, the Trinity UCC which had no problem publishing a Hamas manifesto in their bulletin.

Then there is the Mennonite Central Committee and the American Friends Service, who sponsored and invited Iran's Ahmadinejad for talks and dinner. Both radically liberal and anti-Israel. Also members of CMEP.

The Presbyterian USA , a board member with CMEP is also misrepresenting Christian values.

In the article below from Jpost, my comments are [within brackets].

From Jpost--Presbyterians Pushing To Demonize Israel:

"You probably don’t remember but before June 1967 there was peace in the land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan. There were no fedayeen, no terror attacks, no PLO. "

[Totally false]

The PCUSA should be viewed as a left-wing, social-justice, mainline apostate church. They've been all over the map on critical issues like feminist theology, ordaining homosexuals, Israel, and even promotion of the gospel around the world.

They should NOT be confused with PCA, OPC, or EPC.

Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The complete canon of scripture reveals the heart of the Lord concerning Israel and the Jewish people. It is pretty clear. True, severity in judgment, yet more gracious, compassionate, and loving. Intensely personal and passionate.

Christians, if they are "born again" [John 3:3] and "Spirit filled" [Acts13:52] purport to model the very heart and character of G-d. Therefore, concern and support for the nation of Israel in all forms should be as natural as breathing for a Christian.

Likewise any "christian" or organization so called modeling the venom and biased deceit we have been seeing in recent decades directed against Israel naturally causes me to question their integrity.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
[Matthew 7:15-20]

You got that right....

....might as well take your family to the closest University for church rather than a Presbyterian church...the teaching is about the same, the difference is the college doesn’t claim itself Christian.

While a believer is indeed indwelt by God the Holy Spirit, if that same believer steps out of fellowship with God, the believer degenerates independent of God’s Plan for him.

While all the believer must do to return to fellowship is to turn back to God and confess his sins to God the Father through faith in Christ, and He is sure and just to forgive those sins, thereby returning the believer back in fellowship with Him.

Meanwhile, an out of fellowship believer can commit any heinous sin as still miss out on many rewards at the bema seat. Degenerating from grieving the Holy Spirit immediately upon doing anything independent of God’s Plan or outside of faith through Christ, if the believer fails to return to Him, he might later degenerate so far as to quench the Holy Spirit by attacking even God and His Plan directly.

It isn’t surprising that Christian organizations, which stray from God, also later fall into deeper degenerate behavior of the most antiChristian type.

This also explains how some believers are also found to be guilty of some of the most heinous sins imaginable.

Nevertheless, they still do not overturn the redemption provided by our Lord Savior Christ on the Cross and the salvation so great an available to any person who simply exercises a smidgen more faith than absolutely no faith at all in Jesus Christ in what He provided for us on the Cross.

The complete canon of scripture reveals the heart of the Lord concerning Israel and the Jewish people.

A Resounding AMEN to that, Salem!

Anecdotal support for your statement:
Six months ago I started a Daily Prayer Thread on FR to "Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem".
Each Day Starts with a Scripture portion.
I NEVER lack a Scripture Portion for my Thread that pinpoints exactly the Jews' Claim to the Holy Land, down to the Boundary Lines, Or G-d's Promise to Abraham through WHICH Son, Or Who sold WHAT BIRTHRIGHT to WHOM, Or Who bought what Cave for how much money from whom, etcAnd over and over again, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem.

Bibi said it too. It's not in the Koran.

It's in the BIBLE!

We have to draw clear lines..PCUSA is apostate..but most other presbyterian denominations are bible centered and conservative..

Presbyterian is a form of church government that has ruling and teaching elders and deacons it is not the doctrine..

Perhaps you could enlarge on this...for aren’t the denominations branches of them? What is the distinction?

Thanks, as I am not that familiar with the difference.

PCUSA is an individual denomination. At one time it was pretty solid, but it has fallen into heresy.

There are many other denominations that use a presbyterian form of church government and hold to the original doctrines of grace and are conservative.

There are the Orthodox Presbyterians, The Presbyterian church of America, the Bible presbyterian church, Reformed Presbyterian church of America ,Evangelical Presbyterian Church. There are other denominations and individual churches that hold to “the doctrines of grace.. (Calvinism) but have other forms of church government.so they do not use the name Presbyterian..even though we may be doctrinally the same.

As I said Presbyterian is the form of church government used by the churches.”The name “Presbyterian” comes from the word “presbyter” meaning “elder.” Presbyterian churchs have a representational form of church government, in which authority is given to elected lay leaders (elders). These lay elders work together with the church’s ordained minister. The governing body of an individual Presbyterian congregation is called a session. Several sessions constitute a presbytery, several presbyteries make up a synod, and the General Assembly oversees the entire denomination.”
This form of church government most closely follows the biblical outline found in Pauls letters

They trace their roots back to Geneva and John Calvin, so most still hold to the doctrines of Grace and are Biblical churches conservative in position.

The PCUSA..went its own way a long tie ago

Very interesting and thank you for clarifying this...so PSUSA basically went their own way regardless of the churches original doctrines. We are seeing this allot today in all the churches...a very real shifting about...and nobody will be immune before all this is said and done.

The churches who have not been affected (yet) are watching closely those who have been... They are watching the parishioners who've had to leave and are learning from them how to do it and find another church in case this stuff comes into theirs....I have family members who recently got a new church after leaving because of this homosexual bishop in the Episcopal Church....it's going to get allot worse I'm afraid....a real sifting going on. And the Catholic church has their hands certainly full as well....
