Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

Some of us have agreed to pray this daily from today, July 1 through July 9. Our hope is for the grace to let God's love be more apparent in our exchanges, and more known in our hearts.

38”Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
39”Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40for whoever is not against us is for us. 41I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.

John 14:

1Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you: because I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I shall go, and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will take you to myself; that where I am, you also may be. 4And whither I go you know, and the way you know. 5Thomas saith to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. 7If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him, and you have seen him.

John 8:

31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. 32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free? 34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. 35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. 36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

A privilege to be part of so salutary (I use the word advisedly) an undertaking!

BTW, have you thought to ping the Keepers of ye Ping Lists, with a statement of intent? Naturally, I'm far too self-effacing to do the honors . . . ;-)

Who has the List of Lists? I’ve never told them about the Seaman Anoreth list.

You never told me about it either! ;-)

Not sure what you mean by List of Lists, but NYer and Salvation both have extensive Catholic ping lists.

I just remembered (and searched for) the FR Master Ping List -- a list of ping lists with their custodians. It's outdated now -- spring of 2007. I found another thread (June 2009) discussing updating it (and some people added to it newer ping lists they keep), but I don't know if a more recent complete update was ever compiled.
