NOVENA FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit
of courage and right judgment,
a spirit
of knowledge and love.

By governing
with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle
Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your Church into a sacrament of unity, love
and peace for all the world.
Amen.

V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the Pope.
R/ May the Lord preserve him, give him a long life, make him blessed upon the earth, and not hand him over to the power of his enemies.
V/ May your hand be upon your holy servant.
R/ And upon your son, whom you have anointed.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be

I'm making this an ecumenical thread because I know there are a lot of people of other faiths who respect Pope Benedict and will pray for him during these next 18 days in their own way.

This could also be a Rosary novena for the Pope.

Pray the Rosary.
Pray without ceasing.

Thanks. I worry about his safety. There is so much unvarnished hatred and the abetting of hatred in the media some deranged person might take it into his mind to attempt to harm him.

Worries me too. When you see the invective of those who hate Catholics in general and the Vicar of Christ in particular, as expressed by a few on this forum, it leaves no doubt that the Holy Father is always in danger from the Evil One, as we all are.

Thanks Salvation. We know the flack(Anti- Christian Media) already in England. Which has become a strange nation that has sharia law practiced blocks or regions in London. I think London might be the next target.

I usually being the fifth petition of the Litany of Lutheran Evening Prayer (Vespers) in the manner posted, naming the other hierarchs after +++Benedict and +++Bartholomew.

L In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For Benedict,Bishop of Rome; Bartholomew, Patriarch of the East; for our pastors in Christ, for all servants of the Church, and for all the people, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For our public servants, for the government and those who protect us, that they may be upheld and strengthened in every good deed, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For those who work to bring peace, justice, health, and protection in this and every place, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For those who bring offerings, those who do good works in this congregation, those who toil, those who sing, and all the people here present who await from the Lord great and abundant mercy, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For favorable weather, for an abundance of the fruits of the earth, and for peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and need, let us pray to the Lord.

C Lord, have mercy.

L For the faithful who have gone before us and are at rest, let us give thanks to the Lord.

C Alleluia.

L Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.

Silence for meditation.

L Rejoicing in the fellowship of all the saints, let us commend ourselves, one another, and our whole life to Christ, our Lord.

C To you, O Lord.

L O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments; and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God forever.

Phil Lawler on the media in UK: how dare he?

how dare he?   By Phil Lawler | September 02, 2010 5:03 PM

When Pope Benedict travels to Britain later this month, there will presumably be several million people who would be delighted if the Holy Father would visit their schools, speak to their organizations, celebrate Mass in their parishes, or bless their homes. Unfortunately his schedule is tight, and he can’t accept every invitation. When the final schedule was set for the papal visit, some people were disappointed.

Most of them took it with good grace, though. Most of them recognized that there are limits on the Pope’s time and energy. Most, but not all. The Daily Mirror reports:

The Pope has refused to broadcast on Radio 4's Thought for the Day during his UK visit.

Notice how the report is worded: not that the Pope “was unable to” address the radio audience, or “could not find time” to make the appearance, or even “declined” the invitation. No; he “refused.” The choice of that word suggests that Radio 4 had a right to the Pope’s presence; that the Vicar of Christ was rude to turn down the invitation. Or maybe he had some ulterior motive for declining the opportunity to address the radio audience? What is he trying to hide?!

Brace yourself. There will be much, much more of this sort of skewed coverage in the British press. It’s going to be a long few weeks.

Prayer for the Conversion of England

|

Our+Lady+of+Walsingham+WindowIntoHeaven+Anna+Edelman+2.jpg

The forthcoming Apostolic Visit of Our Holy Father to the United Kingdom invites us to pray boldly for the conversion of England: the return of Mary's Dowry to obedience to Peter. I cannot help but think of all those souls, beginning with the English Martyrs, who suffered and prayed for this intention: Blessed Dominic of the Mother of God Barbieri, C.P., Venerable Father Ignatius of Saint Paul Spencer, C.P., Mother Mary of Saint Peter (Adèle) Garnier of Tyburn, Father Benedict Williamson, O.SS.S., Mother Mary Potter, and so many others.

Click on the link if you cannot see the picture.

O BLESSED VIRGIN MARY,
Mother of God and our most gentle Queen and Mother,
look down in mercy upon England thy "Dowry"
and upon us all who greatly hope and trust in thee.
By thee it was that Jesus our Saviour and our hope was given unto the world;
and He has given thee to us that we might hope still more.
Plead for us thy children,
whom thou didst receive and accept at the foot of the Cross,
O sorrowful Mother.
Intercede for our separated brethren,
that with us in the one true fold
they may be united to the supreme Shepherd, the Vicar of thy Son.
Pray for us all, dear Mother,
that by faith fruitful in good works
we may all deserve to see and praise God,
together with thee, in our heavenly home. Amen.

Nicholas Patrick Stephen Cardinal Wiseman (1802-1865)
