God is no longer a man, says Scottish Episcopal church (removes all masculine references to God)

The Scottish Episcopal Church has caused controversy by removing masculine references to God in a new order of service.

The new form of worship, which removes words such as 'Lord, he, his, him' and 'mankind' from services, has been written by the church in an attempt to acknowledge that God is 'beyond human gender'.

Episcopalian bishops have approved the introduction of more 'inclusive' language, which deliberately removes references suggesting that God is of male gender

Traditionalists have criticised the changes on the grounds that they smack of political correctness and because they believe they are not consistent with the teachings of the Bible.

The alterations have been made to provide an alternative to the established 1982 Liturgy, which, like the Bible, refers to God as a man.

The new order of service, which can be used by priests if they have difficulties with a male God, has been produced by the church's Liturgy Committee in consultation with the Faith & Order Board of General Synod and the College of Bishops.

Also, in order not to offend the feminine gender, all references to humans will be stripped of gender related language.

Hence, masculine pronouns will be removed.

As an example, the word 'mankind' has been taken out and replaced with 'world'.

Will God be pleased to see itself referred to this way?

Soooooo, Jesus wasn't a man? What was he/she/it? Androgynous?

Then, in order to avoid offending Scottish traditionalists, all references in the foreign tongue (English) will be removed.

That pretty well does that eh!

The trivializing headline, “God no longer a man,” is deliberately confusing the issue. I expected more from the Daily Mail.

In order to avoid insulting the hierarchy of the Scottish Episcopol Church, all references to Equus africanus asinus will be called "donkeys".

God is not inclusive. Perhaps they should just remove Him.

Only the Mormons believe God is man,...an exalted man who scored enough points to become a god.

What the unredeemed and confused Eepies are saying is that they will no longer refer to God as a male entity. Which doesn’t change the facts, btw.

God is not threatened by their announcement. He can handle it.

I was singing a line from “Be Thou My Vision,” that ancient Irish hymn yesterday. I had no trouble singing “Thou my true father, I thy true son” even though I am a woman. I love thinking of God in masculine terms. It’s powerful and strong and noble. I’m his daughter, but I see myself as being cared for tenderly.

C.S. Lewis said that “God is so masculine, that He makes all of creation seem feminine in comparison.”

If Christ is the Bridegroom and the church is the Bride, it gets a little confusing to not call God “He.”

Christ called God Father.

We see this political correctness in lots of ways.

For example, have you noticed that you rarely hear politicians or “talking heads” mention the “Founding Fathers” anymore? They instead label them as the “Founders” or the “Framers” of the constitution. They do this because of women’s lib. Even though every single Founding Father was a man, it is considered offensive to women to refer to them by a title which designated them as men. Hence, we now are told about the “Founders” and “Framers” of the constitution.

It’s the same darn thing with this church. It’s offensive somehow to talk about God the Father, so we will bend over backwards not to offend women.

What if I am offended by this change? Does your opinion count if you are offended by the political correctness? Or does the right to be offended and force these changes only go in one direction???????

Obviously God is “beyond human gender”, but He has revealed Himself as a Father, and in His incarnation Jeseus regerred to “His Father”. So get over it.
