Atheist: Catholic Faith is Least Tolerated Religion

The Catholic Faith is the least tolerated religion in Europe, criticized French philospher Bernard-Henri Levy, who is himself an Atheist.

Madrid [Kath.net/CNA] The Catholic Faith is the least tolerated religion in Europe. This was said by well-known intellectual, Bernard-Henri Levy in an interview with the Spanish newspaper "ABC".

The prominent French intellectual, who identifies himself as an Atheist, is concerned on the other hand about the numerous unjust attacks against the Pope. "The voice of the Pope is very significant, but we have been very unfair to this Pope", he said in an interview to "ABC". "I am not Catholic, but I believe, there is prejudice and an especially powerful anti-clericalism, which has become an enormous exception in Europe", Levy said.

There is a double-standard upon attacks against other religions, criticized Levy. "In France there's a great deal of discussion about the violation of Jewish and Muslim cemeteries, but no one knows that Catholic graves are permanently desecrated", complains the French philosopher.

Naturally there is a right to criticize religions, said Levy. It so happens, especially by intellectuals, considerable injudiciousness. Levy says: "Muslims are defended in the intellectual world, Catholics much less."

I wonder how they treat Evangelicals over there.

That’s a very good question. Just a guess, but I’d expect they’re thought of as an exclusively American phenomenon and held in general contempt in Europe.

I was dining with a lady from over there who thought that I was an Evangelical simply because I was an American who believed in God.

My experience is that atheism is the least tolerant faith, closely followed by Islam.

Europe also has the dynamics of inter-sect conflict. Since the distribution is patterned geographically, it would be interesting to see the varieties of opinion across the landscape.

ansel, Europe is quickly going down the drain as regards all flavors of Christianity. And the influx of immigrants from points around the Mediterranean and Africa are increasing this. A book you should read: America Alone, by Mark Steyn. After reading that, visit Jihadwatch. Those who profess Christianity are quickly becoming the minority. The states are secular. And the moslems are increasing in both the number of people coming into countries, and havin significantly more babies than the people local to each area. In a few years, this will most certainly turn not pretty.

"These so called intellectuals have been tolerated under the forgiveness of Christ..."

That is pretty much a very recent and American thing. Back in the day, being thrown from a bell tower didn't depend on your IQ. Europeans and those who escaped there have very good historical reason to be anti-Christian or at least anti-Catholic.

Having a good reason still does not save their soul of course but we wouldn't want a little thing like eternal life get in the way of some good revenge./s

What is it with the need to play martyrs? NOT one of us will ever pass though this flesh age sinless, yet ONE did and look what ‘they’ did to HIM... Why should any that follow HIM expect better acceptance?

“…doesn’t like that kind of language…”

What the truth, or the truth being stated for others to review.

Liberalism is a mental disorder! Enough said.
