In Christ Alone lyrics

Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

who performed this cleansing [of Mary's soul]?

Jesus Christ Her Savior, of course (Luke 1:47).

Words mean things.

Luke 8:20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”

He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who HEAR God’s Word and OBEY IT.”

You CAN remove my name from your ping list...so no excuses. I have already checked this out. So now do it and be done with it. So for the fourth time...take me off your ping list. Period.

I don’t have a list of any kind. I respond to posts from people. If the post I am responding to has other Freepers on the “To:” line, I include the visible part of that list. I cannot promise him that I would be always successful picking his name out of that. He should ask the person who included him in the first place to not do so. Recently, I see that Metmom had him on the list and so I copied the list in 7079. I apologize if that inconvenienced him.

Second, I respond to post that are near two weeks old, because of the volume of posts to me. Suppose somewhere on this thread there is a post of his that is a good substantive post to me, posted by Caww directly, — possibly before he decided that he does not want to read from me. What do you want me to do with that post? He is not the only one reading the thread.

It is never my intention to harass him. I do not seek out his post and respond to them just to spite him. But if there is a post addressed to me with his name on the To line, I think it is his job to ignore my response, not mine.

Sooner or later you answer all posts

Which, if you read around the latest, gets me an accusation of being rude.

John the Baptist didn’t do that because of penance he lived that way because he was a Nazirite like Samson. He was actually a Nazirite from birth.

But why were there Nazirites to begin with? Luke gospel that you cite gives an answer: "to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

THAT'S what all those homeless guys are? They're doing penance? ;o)

Perhaps some of them, if they teach chaste and modest life to others, similar to St. John.

John the Baptist may also have taken the Nazarite vow.

So? Any monk today who joins an order also takes a vow of his order.

couldn't stomach the truth of what the Gospel really is

Our priests can stomach the gospel just fine. It is a Catholic book.

Catholic "pastors" have done much worse things to the flock!

They did, but that was not why they were sent. The worst, most predatory priest still is sent to proclaim the Gospel as written. A Protestant pastor, in contrast, preaches whatever theology he personally likes, and that scatters the flock.

He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth (Luke 11:23)

Would you please remove Caww from the list as you write to me?

Where does the Bible ever say that John’s lifestyle was *penance*

He chose it for some reason, and his purpose was to call to penance. The Bible mentions his "lifestyle"; why, do you think, it does?

Does that mean all those Hail Mary’s and our Father’s that the priest gave me to say after confession weren’t really penance?

Of course they were. You do what the priest tells you. You can certainly do your own without being asked. You can do penance for the sins of others, too.

I should have been walking around in a sack, living on the streets surviving on locusts and wild honey?

Would be very nice of you.

Is it not the teaching of the Catholic church that Protestants are heretics? Saying, “We’re no worse than the heretics” is choosing the wrong measuring rod, isn’t it?

Protestants are heretics, but both Catholics and Protestants are human. Orthodoxy is not the same as impeccability.

Then the Pope led the church into error by giving his approval [of torture]?

He did? Which one? Did the Church ever teach that torture is an example for the faithful to follow?

since you have not sold all that you have, and given it to the poor, you are thus not saved?

I don't know if I shall be saved. I am not dead yet, and I don't subscribe to the Protestant nonsense of being "saved" once.

However, the meaning of the episode is to follow Christ. Monastic life is a good choice for many, but it is not the only choice. One can imitate Christ is his life by giving to his family, and mine is nowhere near rich.

Tell me that you're not really that clueless......

aa: Of course they were. You do what the priest tells you.

Like good little drones.

aa: You can do penance for the sins of others, too. Scripture?

mm: I should have been walking around in a sack, living on the streets surviving on locusts and wild honey?

aa: Would be very nice of you.

Why? Is that a *work* that Jesus supposedly instructed in the Beatitudes, or is it something the RCC made up itself?

The only thing penance does for the penitent is make them feel good about himself.

It literally, has no redeeming value.

It’s a useless waste of time.

If the person is saved, it does nothing to add to salvation.

If they are unsaved, it does nothing to bring about salvation.

The entire Old Testament was given to prepare Israel for the Messiah .

Still has nothing to do with John the Baptist doing penance as Roman Catholics see it.

I have to agree with annalex on this subject. When responding to a post with a long "To:" list I consider it good practice to copy the entire list without selective editing.

As far as I can see annalex is making a good faith effort to avoid addressing posts to, or responding directly to caww, that is all that can be expected.

annalex has no Ping List and cannot reasonably be expected to edit out individuals contained on the "To:" line in all posts.

Well then this creates a situation I will have to find solution for myself if that's the case.

Now the To: in your psot here has addressed others, yet here in my reply to it shows only OLD REGGIE. So Metmom if you are pinged to this please let me know, as it "looks" to go to just OR.

>> “I don’t know if I shall be saved.” <<

.
Sad that you should live in that kind of fear. I know that I’m saved; the Bible tells me so.

Did you know that fear is sinful?

>> “ I don’t subscribe to the Protestant nonsense of being ‘saved’ once.” <<

.
Is everything in the Bible “Protestant?”

By your theory then, if you sin even once after gaining the knowledge of Christ’s payment, you are then lost for eternity?

Hebrews 10:

[14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

[15] Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

[16] This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

[17] And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

[18] Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Read that last verse; if you are right about that “Protestant nonsense of being ‘saved’ once” there is no hope for you of salvation.
.

OK, you decided to edit out all "extraneous" names of my "To:" list. That is your prerogative but is not SOP.

Yes, in many instances where your name is visible in the "To:" list annalex could notice it and edit out but, in my opinion, it is not required by any reasonable standard.

It is your option to ignore any post from your "forbidden" list.
