mm: Where does the Bible ever say that John’s lifestyle was *penance*

aa: He chose it for some reason, and his purpose was to call to penance. The Bible mentions his "lifestyle"; why, do you think, it does?

Why? Is that a *work* that Jesus supposedly instructed in the Beatitudes, or is it something the RCC made up itself?

It is what St. John the Baptist did as he called sinners to penance.
