'Double Standard': New book provides evidence of media attack on Catholic Church
Amazon.com ^ | August 2010 | David F. Pierre, Jr.

"Double Standard: Abuse Scandals and the Attack on the Catholic Church is essential reading for anyone who wants to hear the other side of the clergy sexual abuse scandal. The side the media hasn't told you, and side most of the public doesn't know ... Even for someone who has read about this subject for years, it was eye-opening to me ... If someone attacks you or slanders the Church over the sexual abuse scandal, challenge them to read this book and continue saying such things." - Thomas Peters, American Papist, CatholicVote.org

"A landmark book ... Meticulously researched ... A courageous and compelling account of how money, media, and mayhem have distorted and driven the scandal and singled out the Catholic Church." - Fr. Gordon J. MacRae, TheseStoneWalls.com

"I highly recommend this book." - Gus Lloyd, Seize the Day with Gus Lloyd, The Catholic Channel

----

Yes, Catholic priests terribly abused minors, and bishops failed to stop the unspeakable harm. That's an undeniable truth. However, major media outlets are unfairly attacking the Catholic Church, and this compelling book has the shocking evidence to prove it. This book addresses numerous topics, including: ... appalling cases of abuse and cover-ups happening today - but they're not happening in the Catholic Church ... proof that Catholic clergy do not offend more than teachers or those of other religious denominations ... data that shows that the Catholic clergy scandal is not about "pedophilia" ... affirmation that the Catholic Church may be the safest place for children today ... research that uncovers the shady relationships between SNAP (Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests), lawyers, and the media ... tawdry tactics by SNAP ... the surprising truth about "repressed memories" ... unheard, agonized priests who deny the accusations against them ... evidence of how the "documentary" Deliver Us From Evil deceived moviegoers ... plus much more.

Look, no one more than I would appreciate a fair book on the topic. But several things bother me.

First, the book is self published. Create Space is a company to direct publish to Amazon.

Second, your post is almost word for word from the Amazon blurb with nothing much added by you. Did you read it?

Third, building on the second point, I would guess that you wrote it, not just read it. You are David Pierre. Amazon has only one customer review, that by “davidwrites” who has only one review, the one on this book. It's a five star review too.

If you are the author, I don't mind you promoting the book, but being deceptive destroys your credibility. I would love to buy the book but not now. It doesn't pass the smell test.

Instead. If you are the author, say it. Say “Hey, I wrote a well researched book that took a lot of time and effort and I want to share with fellow Freepers what I accomplished.” Tell some major topic points.

Then, say “Publishing with a recognized publisher is almost impossible on a first run, unless you are already known. But once the first self published run is done, most successful books are then picked up by the publisher for the second run. I would appreciate my fellow Freepers buying the book and getting the message out there that the Church has been slimed and this is the proof. Go to Amazon and click on the Look Inside button and read the first few pages. This is an important work.”

There is a lot of ways to self promote. The Knights of Columbus bulk sales. Advertising and consignment with religious stores. But not this.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. You don't have an about page. But this is too much like an infomercial for me to spend $10.76 on a person who isn't truthful.

I appreciate your reply. I thought I had made it pretty obvious that I was the author when I put my name in the author line at the top of the post and my bio in the first comment!

If it was unclear to you or anyone ... Sorry! I was just trying to make things easy. I just don't appreciate being called "deceptive" and "not truthful," when I strive to be truthful everyday.

So ... I apologize for being unclear. How about you? You say I have "one customer review" (and, by the way, "davidwrites" is NOT me), but you ignore the three nice testimonials the book has from legitimate outside sources.

Peace.

More rationalizations and justifications. Please!
This is just more peddling of the “body count” mentality.

"More rationalizations and justifications. Please!"

What ever your self-rightous motivations might be you are nothing more than a dupe or useful idiot for the left. The Catholic Church is THE major moral obstacle to the agenda of the left and has been since the Marx first scratched his creed in a London flat. The method to erode the moral authority of the Church has been tried multiple times in the past and was perfected by the Nazi's. The object is to create a subliminal word association linking Catholic, Priest, to pedophile. One need only look to the so-called Immorality Campaign and Trials. Just open a book and follow along with the story line in your local paper. There too the Protestants were the most willing of accomplices because their envy and hatred of the Catholics out weighed their ability to recognize and act against evil.

If successful with the Catholic Church your little sect won't stand a chance, but when they came for the Catholics............

Actually, you didn't make it clear. Far from it. In the first post you referred to David Pierce in the third person in the cut and paste. The bio isn't clearly you by the way you presented the thread. You post nothing in the first person that indicates you are posting about yourself.

Now as for me, I don't ignore the book testimonials. In fact, I would have loved to buy the book. I have a relative who I would give it to in a second who is being brain washed by the attack on the Church.

If you don't appreciate being called deceptive or untruthful, then by gosh be smarter! It is that easy to lose your credibility by carelessness. A book like that would have had a great launch here.

I have a suggestion to you, similar to the last one. Let this thread die. In two days or so, repost the thread with a different title for the thread. Something like “My book on the Catholic Church Scandal.” Then give a personal intro about how long you worked, how hard you worked, the great testimonials. Give some of your qualifications in the first person. Then give the links and ask for support.

Self promotion is fine if you are up front about it. Ping the Catholic list like Nyer and Salvation. Since you are self published start hitting the Catholic groups for sale. I wish you luck.

But know this, your reputation is that fragile and totally in your care. For me it is in tatters that quick by the way you posted this thread. I'm only one anonymous person on a bulletin board so no big loss, but how quick can you ruin your reputation by such thoughtless actions in the future when you are a famous author and pundit on Hannity or Bill O’Reilly?

I wish you well and much success. Please learn from this.

I did not read but I look forward to reading. Thanks for your book in advance. It sounds fair. I personally met people when I drinked about setting up a priest. They figured with more witnesses it could work. But I said your not thinking about the other witness. That was me. I told them off. Never happen. What evil in the hearts of men. Either the turned priest molester or the set up people. The enemy never stops.

Again, I want to sincerely apologize! It was unintentional. I thought my name at the top made it clear that the book was mine. I was very wrong!

Can a Christian get some forgiveness around here?

Thanks for the book, after reading the first few pages, I found a book that honestly anyone should read. Not only for the sake of overcoming the urge to scapegoat, but also to honestly realize the truly worldwide and diverse faces of child abuse. As a Scoutmaster in the BSA, it was my job to teach new scouts about how to deal with abusive situations. I had to also instruct them that the abuser could be all sorts of people. I am glad that this book demonstrates this point well.

Furthermore, if people really want to fight the worldwide epidemic of childhood sexual abuse, they need to realize, as a number of decent religious leaders have at least been truthful to mention, that there is a worldwide epidemic going on among all faiths and all nations, and unless one truly gets off their desire to simply try and find some special ineffective conversion tool for converting catholics that really does not work, we are all going to end up wading deeper and deeper into the problem of child molestation in the backyards of this nation and the world. It’s a real problem, and unless we can face the danger on all fronts, we are in a pretty bad mire, and will keep sinking deeper.
