Always hard to get a good literal Polish-English translation but here the best one I could find:

Miserable, quiet, stable on the earth,
Full heavenly glory.
Here’s lying on the hay, asleep
The small rays of Jesus.

Above him stood the angels in flight
I bent knees
With golden hair, with white wings,
Under the rainbow-painted.

Big surprise: all of creation
Worldwide salvation;
Wisdom of Wisdom, Light of Light,
God - man incarnate here!

And here, poor people
Glad to see the Lord,
Full of inspiration, full of wonder
They fell to their knees.

Here is Mary, a pure lily,
When the old man trembling
They stand before us, before shepherds
With such smiling.

Beautiful even with the translation.....would love to hear it in Polish. I think I enjoyed Poland the most (other than Auschwitz) when I took a pilgrimage to the Eastern Europe countries. Oh, my, too much to even mention.

Probably "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" for one particular reason. The Kansas City Repertory Theater does "A Christmas Carol" every year and there is a part in the second act where several of the cast begin to sing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". And as they are doing so, the rest of the cast - and its' pretty big - come down the aisles bearing candles singing along with them. They all wind up on stage for the third chorus and it is, to me, the highlight of the play. There's a part of it about 2 minutes into this clip. Link

But really I like all the old carols - Fum, Fum, Fum; Bring the Torch; We Three Kings; God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; Here We Come A Caroling; Coventry Carol; and all the rest.

**I can’t recall ever having sung it.**

Me either, but I just found it in the new missalette.

First verse
Once in roal David’s city
Stood a lowly cattle shed.
Where a mother and her baby
In a manger for his bed.
Mary was that mother mild
Jesus Christ her little child

I grew up hearing “Guardian Angels Surround my bed” by Mario Lanza.

I only heard it with the Christmas music. It sticks with me more than any other.

We Three Kings is my #1.

Vocal or instrumental. It always sounds so regal and ancient.

I inherited the family albums. But, I haven’t got the skills to transfer them to digital. My wife bought an advanced digital turntable convinced that she could do it, rather than the simple idiot proof one I picked. She believed she had the ability with all the software.

Well, it sits under its dust cover and the albums sit in storage.

It all works out in the end, though. The next time I do something and she says “What were you thinking?”, I’ve got the digital turntable card to play :-)

One of my favorite Christmas song sites is www.falalalala.com

Lots of great Americana music from years past, much of it available for download.

My favorite is Silent Night both in English and the original German.

I love Oh Come All Ye Faithful, but every time I hear it, I think of the scene from the movie The Great Escape where the POW's are hammering out the air duct in time to the song. It's a wonderful carol, but I want to bust out laughing every time I hear it.

Thanks, MB, but my computer doesn’t have the available space for that. Great site, though.

Ditto.

And a vote for Silent Night (in the original German).
