John Paul II to be beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on the Feast of Divine Mercy
Catholic Online ^ | 1/15/11 | Deacon Keith Fournier

On April 2, 2005 at 9:37 p.m. the Venerable Pope John Paul II died. In April of 2009 his beloved successor, Pope Benedict XVI, told Pilgrims gathered in Rome "With you, I pray for the gift of beatification". That prayer has been answered. Friday, January 14, 2011 the Holy See released the "Decree for the Beatification of the Servant of God John Paul II".

...The choice of the Feast of Divine Mercy, May 1, 2011 is not accidental. He had a deep devotion to his fellow Pole Sr. Faustina Kowalska and to the Divine Mercy devotion identified with her.

...Pope John Paul II became in both life and death a "living letter", as St Paul wrote to the Corinthians. (2 Cor.3) Also, like the master he loved he became a "grain of wheat" fallen to the ground in order to bear much fruit. (John 12: 24-26) Like countless others my life was forever changed by this prophet who occupied Peters' chair for such a brief time. I must admit, my heart still hurts when I think of him. I miss him.

Like millions, I am convinced that history will record him as "John Paul the Great." However, I am also convinced that his message still needs to be unpacked in order to be used as material for the work to be done in this new missionary age...

There is no doubt that we had a saint in our midst. A man so filled with Jesus Christ that, like the Apostle Paul, he no longer lived but "Christ lived in him." (Galatians 2) ...

The sentiment of the faithful "Santo Subito" echoed as the Church discerned the cause of his canonization. Now, he will be raised to the Altar on the Feast of Divine Mercy and the faithful will call him "Blessed John Paul II." We will soon affirm what miracles effected by his intercession confirm, John Paul II is a Saint.

I saw John Paul II while he was alive. I read his works. I don't know about sainthood, but Karol Wotyla was one of the great men of the Twentieth Century. He was one of the Great Three of the 1980s who crushed Soviet Communism, with Reagan and Thatcher.

Yes! John Paul II is the best Pope we ever had. We are so lucky that we had him during the Reagan and thatcher period. The three of them were unstoppable. God Bless Blessed John Paul and the Catholic Church!

Get real! Come back to reality my freind, we're going to need you. Disconnect yourself from the mass media's brainwashing news for the sheeple.

Here’s another headline on FR:

Russia launches arms race with new intercontinental ballistic missile

Telegraph ^ | 14 Jan 2011 | Andrew Osborn

Russia is developing a replacement for the world’s most devastating intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in a move that risks reviving a global nuclear arms race. the head of Rosobshemash said the new missile would be capable of overcoming any nuclear missile shield that the Americans or indeed anyone else might build. “This applies in the fullest sense to the USA’s anti-missile defence system and to Nato’s (planned) European missile defence system,” said Artur Usenkov. Russia is developing the new missile despite recently negotiating a new landmark Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with the United States which will see both countries make...

There was not a saint pope for 500 years till Pius X (died 1914). After Vatican II the progressives changed all rules for sainthood. They removed the devils advocate and made just 1 miracle enough for sainthood. Result- JPII beatified more people than ALL the other popes of 1900+ years put together! No surprise that they beatify JPII. It's a joke.

The progressives wanted one of their own as a Blessed, they made one, JPII, the icon of the post Vatican II religion of the effeminates. The pope that presided over the greatest devastation of the Catholic faithful in the history of mankind. I doubt that 1% of Catholics today really practice the faith. I DOUBT that 1%! He presided over a hierarchy and clergy that homofied the priesthood, and dumbed down the few faithful left that still went to mass.

Stop calling me a sheeple and you might get my attention.

There is a difference between Russia as an authoritarian state and the Soviet Union as a Communist dictatorship. The Russians are trying to re-establish themselves as a global power by military means, but not ideological. They're poorer by about 100 million people. They have power, but not a sense of ideology.

Sir/mam, the Devil’s Advocate still exists. The title was changed to the Defender of The Faith. I’d rather be called that than the advocate of the devil. Second, the Defender of the Faith did concede the point that John Paul II lived a heroic life of Christian virtue that could not be denied. Unless he signs that sworn statement, the case cannot be presented to the Pope to declare the candidate Venerable. Even then, then case moves up to a committee of five cardinals who must also sign that they concur with the Defender of the Faith. Then the request moves to the Holy Father who must sign that he too concurs with everyone beneath him that the person lived a heroic Christian life and he asks the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to prepare the decree of Venerable. The decree is presented to the Holy Father, who again reads all of the arguments and then signs it.

From there the process moves to prove that at least one alleged miracle is true. The pope can dismiss this step. Pope Benedict chose to leave it in place.

Yes, a little too fast in my opinion, yet what are saints but role models for sainthood. There are many unknown saints (Feast of All Saints!), so the ones we know are those who are heroes of the faith. Like the lady who cared for her husband's murderers. I think JPII was a great model for FAITH, especially for two reasons:
1. The optimism and belief that God could destroy the evil empire in 12 years. Who would have thought in 1979 that communism would be dead in Europe by 1991? Impossible most would have said, in fact the opposite seemed true (remember, it was Jimmah Cahtah in charge). I now live in Poland and I've spoken to people who lived through those times and no one believed in the 70s or even the 80s (until 85) that they would see communism fall in their lifetimes.

2. His speech in Warsaw when he visited in 1979 when he categorically told the people of Poland that the country was dedicated to Christ.

3. For his carrying on in the late 90s and 2000s when it was obvious he was exhausted and to me and I'm sure to many it seemed that this man was being powered just by Christ's love, as his body had given up on him.

The Russians have always figured out a way to fail in the past if they are the aggressors.

re: the Devil’s Advocate still exists. The title was changed to the Defender of The Faith,.

The Devils Advocate or Promoter of the Faith ((Latin: promotor fidei), "was established in 1587 during the reign of Pope Sixtus V and abolished by Pope John Paul II in 1983. This reform changed the canonization process considerably, helping John Paul II to usher in an unprecedented number of elevations"

From Wiki:

The office was established in 1587 during the reign of Pope Sixtus V and abolished by Pope John Paul II in 1983.[2] This reform changed the canonization process considerably, helping John Paul II to usher in an unprecedented number of elevations: nearly 500 individuals were canonized and over 1,300 were beatified during his tenure as Pope as compared to only 98 canonizations by all his 20th-century predecessors, which has led many[who?] to question the validity of the process and whether all of those canonized today are deserving of the recognition.[citation needed] Such a dramatic increase suggests that the office of the Devil's Advocate had served to reduce the number of canonizations. It is argued[who?] that it served a useful role in ensuring that canonizations did not proceed without due care and hence the status of sainthood was not easily achieved.

That “dude” changed the rules and then proceeded to beatify more people than all the popes before him put together. Now he is getting beatified under the same easy rules.

Joan of Arc had a devils advocate working against her (now eliminated in the new process)and she needed four authentic miracles to secure for beatification and two more miracles form Canonization.

The new rules have no devils advocate, and call for 1 and 1 miracles. It’s like they moved the fences in to 100 feet. and any ballplayer hit 6000 homers per year.

The beatification & canonization process has become a joke.

There’s more to communism than just “the Russians”. China has a standing army of like what? 200 million? They got money (from us) to spend.

There ‘s more to communism than being a battle “aggresor”. Practically all of South America has voted in communist/Leninist presidents. Europe is socialist lite. Obama is a socialist voted in.

The communists/Socialists are taking over, but few notice it, because they have been slow boiled, and are already.

‘In the country of blind men, the one eyed man is king”

Compared to Stalin our present communism/socialism is liberty.

Thanks so much for your reply. This explains a lot!

Sort of like Obama receiving the Nobel Prize for nothing while decades before the very same media minimizing Reagan's input for the fall of Soviet Union.

Sir/mam

A beatification happens only when the Pontiff is absolutely sure that the person is in heaven. The reason that this step is in place is to initiate the public cult to the person, since we have a law that requires a second miracle.

This gets a little tricky, because even though we have the law, the popes are not bound by Church laws. They make the laws. They are the Law-Givers. So the law is almost Perfunctary. Most of us often wonder why they even bother making laws for popes, when everyone knows that the pope can change them or dispense with them. I believe that they exist more for the sake of information, as a way of telling the rest of us how the pope will proceed in certain situations. But they are not guarrantees that he will do so.

Therefore, there is no guarrantee and nothing to bind a pope to stretch out the study for the canonization of a person.

In this case, there is a miracle. This creates an imperative on the pope. If he (the pope) accepts that this is truly a miracle and he accepts that the miracle was through the intercession of John Paul II, he has a moral duty, not a legal one, to acknowledge it. That’s what’s happening here. There is a miracle and Pope Benedict cannot hide it. It would be unjust to do so. If he proclaims the miracle, then he is de facto beatifying. He is admitting that God has shown his glory through the prayers of John Paul.

The only way to do what you’re saying would be to pretend that the miracle never happened. That would be a lie. You can’t do that.

re: No, wikipedia is very unrealable.

I only posted wiki because it was quick and in this case accurate. You can look it up in any Catholic source. This is elementary material. Any traditionalist Catholic knows that:

The Devils Advocate or Promoter of the Faith ((Latin: promotor fidei), "was established in 1587 during the reign of Pope Sixtus V and abolished by Pope John Paul II in 1983. This reform changed the canonization process considerably, helping John Paul II to usher in an unprecedented number of elevations"

That JPII changed the rules and then proceeded to beatify more people than all the popes before him put together. Now he is getting beatified under the same easy rules.

The reason why Joan of Arc took 500 years was because she had to go through A REAL BEATIFICATION/CANONZATION PROCEDURE WITH A devils advocate and she needed FOUR authentic miracles to secure for beatification and TWO more miracles for Canonization.

The new rules have no devils advocate, and call for 1 and 1 miracles. It’s like they moved the fences in to 100 feet. and any ballplayer hit 600 homers per year.

The beatification & canonization process has become a joke.

What planet have you been living in?
