The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.( Isaiah 19:1-2)

Egypt is being rocked by popular protests against the brutal 30 year rule of Hosni Mubarak. The demonstrations in Egypt are part of a larger wave of revolts in the Arab wold. Tunisia,Yemen, and Jordan have also experienced political convulsions as well. The Tunisian President fled to Saudi Arabia and Mubarek’s designated successor, his son Gamal fled to London in a private jet with his family.

Egypt has in the modern world been ruled by a succession of secular leaders since the 1952 overthrow of King Farouk of Egypt, in a coup led by Egyptian army colonel,Gamel Abdal Nasser.

Nasser dreamed of a secular “pan-Arab union” of states but his dream was shattered after the devastating defeat in the six-day war with Israel. Nasser died in 1970 and was succeeded by Anwar Sadat. Sadat was assassinated by Islamsts in 1981, after signing a peace with Israel.Sadat’s vice president was Hosni Mubarek who us currently president of Egypt.

Egypt has played a critical role in the latest revival of violent fundamentalist Islam. The Muslim Brotherhood, founded in 1928 by Egyptian school teacher Hassan Al Banna has been the ideological and moral catalyst for Islamist revolt around the world. The group has been banned in Egypt.

Al Azhar university in Cairo is the Harvard or Oxford of Sunni fundamentalism. Sayid Qutb, an egyptian thinker wrote a book called Milestones which has been used to radicalize and inflame Muslims across the world. The book calls the Muslim world to take up Jihad for the universal imposition of Sharia by violent means.

Mohammed Atta, who led the attack on the world trade center was Egyptian as well as Al Quida right hand man, pediatrician Ayman al Zawahari. Egypt plays an integral role in the current wave of Islamic terrorism afflicting the world.

Egypt is mentioned quite a bit in Bible prophecy as well :

* The expression above, about Egypt, from Isaiah 19, ”nation against nation and Kingdom against Kingdom” is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 24 about the whole world in tribulation..

* Egypt plays a part in the disastrous Psalm 83 war against Israel. She is refered to their as “the Hagarites”, and is part of a coalition of Arab nations attempting to destroy Israel.

* Fear and civil war are prophesied of Egypt in the time of judgment,

In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it(Isaiah 19:6)

* The Jewish state shall be a source of dread terror to the Egyptians, they have already been utterly defeated by them in four open wars, and in spite of overwhelming odds, they want no part of that!

And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.(Isaiah 19:17)

* Something happens in Egypt that prompts an exile of the Egyptians, the land become uninhabitable for forty years, Egyptians stream out as refugees, unable to return until God allows it.

Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia. No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered:(Ezekiel 29:10-13)

* Egypt will in the end turn to God, the living God.

And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them. And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.(Isaiah 19:21-23)

Egypt will finally be free of Islam, she will soon call upon the name of the God of Israel, and be saved! This is the real goal of Egypt’s current struggles, God is dealing with Egypt as He did in the Exodus.

* In the end, Egypt, Iraq and Syria will be brothers and trading partners, and will all call upon the name of the God of Israel.

In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.(Isaiah 19:23-25)

* In the millenium, God calls out Egypt specifically, warning them not to skip the worship at the feast of tabernacles in Jerusalem,

And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.(Zechariah 14:17-19)

So they make it! In spite of the 400 year captivity of Israel by Pharoah, and in spite of the deep hostility Egypt has held towards the chosen people that continues to this day, Egypt in the end finds grace.

The Egyptians have fostered world terrorism, they are deeply involved in the violent Jihad, yet in the end they are brought to the point where they worship the LORD, with Israel and Iraq. God is good!

Egypt must go through a time of terror, it comes back on her as she sowed it to the world. Her nation collapses into violent chaos. She sees her idols crumble, her false god, Allah is proven impotent, but in the end, the true and living God saves her. Hallelujah!

The first part of Isaiah 19 was fulfilled when the Assyrians invaded Egypt in 732 BC. I keep seeing people make the mistake of quoting this Scripture as a future event when it has already been fulfilled except for the millennial kingdom at the end of the Chapter.

Kingpins, how many times was the scripture fulfilled that says, “out of Egypt have I called my Son”? Much Prophecy has multiple fulfillments, In some cases the same prophecy can apply to the immediate historical setting, as well as the coming of Jesus and also it can have an eschatological fulfillment.

Abraham came out of Egypt, Israel's Exodus was out of Egypt, Jesus,Joseph and Mary came out of Egypt, we all came out of Egypt for Egypt is a type of the world. There are in some prophecies multiple fulfillment's.

Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city—which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified. 9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. Revelation 11.

Amen, Jerusalem is “spiritually called Sodom and Egypt”presently sharing in the sins of both, in affinity with Sodom’s unbelief-
