The tumult in Cairo may spell much worse to come for the Copts.
Hosni Mubarak can count on at least one loyal supporter. Coptic Christian leader Pope Shenouda wants the anti-Mubarak protesters to stand down. He has two inarguable reasons to stick with the dictator: fear and experience.
Even if the Muslim Brotherhood doesnt take over, there is every reason to believe that a democratically elected Egyptian government will become more Islamist and more hostile to the countrys roughly 8 million Christians, who are overwhelmingly Copts. As a horrifying premonition, the Copts need look no farther than democratic Iraq, where the ethnic cleansing of Christians is still unspooling, slowly but inexorably.
Its an irony almost too bitter to bear that George W. Bush, an evangelical Christian fired by a vision of freedom with religious overtones, waged a war of liberation in Iraq that led to the uprooting of the countrys Christians. And did almost nothing to prevent it, or even remark upon it. Iraqs Christians are the collateral damage of the countrys post-Saddam revolution.
In a civil war, a small, defenseless minority hated by fanatics of both warring sides will not fare well. But even after the surge tamped down SunniShiite violence, the war on Christians continued. One convent in Hamdaniyah in the north has been attacked 20 times since the start of the war, and as recently as last spring; according to USA Today, it was down to four nuns last year out of an original 55.

The PC Genie is out of the bottle.
Every tribe and every grievance will be aired now.
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Obama is all for Christian-killing democracies. He has never uttered a peep of protest as Muslims in Indonesia and Egypt have burned Christian churches and homes, imprisoned Christian pastors, raped young Christian girls and murdered their fathers and mothers.
Barry Hussein Obama cannot wait to cheer lead and make pretty speeches in favor of Mideast genocide. After all, his madrassa told him this is what good Muslims do. Barry wants to be a good Muslim, so he can do the Haj to Mecca before lights out.
The Christians will survive. They’ll just go invisible, but they won’t go away.
Coptic Christian leader Pope Shenouda wants the anti-Mubarak protesters to stand down... I so agree with you ... the Coptic’s were save under a dictator.. remove him and the coptics are being beheaded and churches burned ... the same thing will happen in Egypt.. the irony is our country gives political asylum to Muslims and condemns violence against muslims and stands silent as christians are being murdered
The great irony in all of this, is that the one country in the Middle East which could possibly have resisted the Islamic tsumani, was Iraq under Saddam. And we took him out.....at the cost of thousands of American lives.
Also, is this the great tribulation that many religious scholars say that the Christians will be raptured out of?
If that be the case then maybe the Christians who this is happening to are not really Christians, but what would they say about it?
They are going through a great tribulation now
but the American Christians are siting snug as a bear on a rug saying they will be raptured out before the tribulation hits them.
