The final events of Earth's history will unfold rapidly...
Testimonies, vol. 9, p 11. (1909) | 1909 | Ellen G. White

Posted on 02/24/2011 10:25:08 AM PST by hope_dies_last

For the Coming of the King

"Yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry." Hebrews 10:37.

The Last Crisis

We are living in the time of the end. The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are solemn and important... The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude.

The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.

The condition of things in the world shows that troublous times are right upon us. The daily papers are full of indications of a terrible conflict in the near future. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails.

The enemy (of souls) has succeeded in perverting justice and in filling men's hearts with the desire for selfish gain.

RobRoy - I applaude you for your efforts to become self-sufficient and buying land to sustain you and your family during the upcoming crisis.

Revelation 18:4 is a warning and the 4th Angels message. Yes, the 4th... The 3 Angels message is in Revelation chapter 14 and the fourth is in Revelation 18:4... Of course, my interpretation might be more than some could handle, yet I am not ashamed. Overcrowded cities are not the ideal place to be in a time of crisis.

On another note, God scrutinizes more the intentions, than our actions, as these can be easily misinterpreted by the bystanders.

My only intention in posting this was not evoke a doctrinal shoot out, but with the hopes that my fellow freepers can ponder for just one moment the times we are living in.

It’s not about us vs. them, patriots vs. socialists... all these events are plainly indicative of a societal meltdown, and not revolutionary human evolution. Things are simply just not getting any better...

Of course, the sharing of this opinion always carries the risk that you will be viewed as a fanatic or sky-is-falling lunatic of somekind. That doesn’t bother me, simply because:

“Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day. 2 Timothy 1:12

God be with you and your family.

I listen to GOD’s words... not man’s.

In His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus issued the following warning regarding false prophets or preachers:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15).

“You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit” (Matthew 7:16-17).

I think it means credit card, bank accounts, driver’s license, SS number.....all those numbers. You typically have to have at least one before you can buy or sell anything. Not quite there yet but mighty close.

White’s a Millerist. Miller predicted the date of end of the world, incorrectly, several times. She’s also an outright liar.

Funniest thing about her: She claimed that the Pope’s title, counting up the values of the letters which are used for Latin numbers, added up to 666. ViCariVs fILII DeII.

One problem is that the pope’s title is Vicar of the Son of Man, not Vicar of the Son of God, since he represents Jesus in His worldly nature, not in his divine nature. Another problem is that church Latin doesn’t use “V” for “U.”

Here’s the funny part: eLLen goULD VVhIte adds up to 666.

Read Matthew 24. Most of the chapter is on how to recognize that the end is near.

Jesus gives all kinds of signs to watch for that we are entering the end times.

However, He goes on to say this.....

Matthew 24:32-

32"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

36"But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Jesus is very clear that we can know the season, but not the specifics. Otherwise why would He give us signs and tell us to be on guard?

I have no doubt that we are in the end as He warned about, but anyone who claims to know more specifically, as in the day or hour, is wrong. Just as those who claim we can't even tell the age are wrong.

There are many prophecies and conditions which have now been fulfilled which weren’t even a century ago.

Plus, you miss the point.

Whether we are living in the end times or not, we should be living as if we are.

2 Peter 3:1-13

1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

In Biblical times, livestock was frequently so marked. Even slaves could have been so marked. So, it's not a stretch to imagine ordinary freemen, too, being routinely marked in such a way.

Actually, I disagree with that.

In those days free men were NOT marked. Since it was slaves and livestock which were branded, I think the concept that EVERYONE bear the mark to buy or sell would be foreign to those who were free.

You will not expect it. No matter how much you are on your guard, if you knew the hour you would have stayed awake. The day and the hour is an analogy - no matter how on guard we are we cannot stay awake forever, and it will come in a time UNEXPECTED.

The fact that the less rational among us have FOR MORE THAN A THOUSAND YEARS said that the time was upon us adds to the din.

Hard to listen for the “barking dog” to warn you of the thief in the night when that damn dog barks EVERY night.

No kidding!!! ...we sure live up to our free speech.

Intelligent dialogue with a few pinched nerves. I can see both sides of the argument, but the point was the “sign of the times”

Believers: “look up, your redemption draweth nigh” and put away the flags and banners.

God is greater than human divisive behaviors... anyway I said more than I planned, don’t make me go there :)

You have misunderstood me. What I meant was:

So, it's not a stretch to imagine ordinary freemen, too, being routinely marked in such a way - in the "End Times," and as a sign of being beholden to or enthralled by the ANTICHRIST.

The original poster opined that, in a largely pre-literature society, the mere concept of marking people with a NUMBER would have been strange or "ground-breaking." I retorted that the Bible speaks of a SIGN, not a NUMBER, and added that SIGNS were routinely employed to mark possessions ("chattel") - including slaves. So as repellent as the thought would have been to the readers of Revelations, it would not have required a "quantum leap" in imagination to posulate NOMINALLY free men being so marked.

If, on the other hand, Revelations had spoken of the requirement that everyone be marked with a, say, 10-digit alphanumeric string in order to engage in commerce, etc. - then, to us MODERNS, that would, indeed, have been astounding / prescient.

I hope that I have made myself clear, now.

Regards,
