And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.(Revelation 5:10-14)
The wonder of the chapters we have been examining, that is Revelation chapter 4 and 5, is that they take place in the very throne room of God. The Lamb of God is there, He is the center of attention and focus, all eyes of men, Cherubim and Angels are fixed on Him who has the marks of death in His body, and yet who lives.
Two songs are sung also, the Old Song of sheer joy and gratitude to the Creator of all. Acknowledgment is made of the worthiness of He who has made everything for His holy pleasure. All creation owes the debt of worship, and of gratitude to the One who made us for himself!
But we have fallen, and have been ruined by sin, made unfit for heaven, yes we have even forfeited the right to remain in Gods Universe. Who can undo what we have done? Who is worthy to commence Gods plan for a new Creation of Heaven,Earth, and even man? It has to be a man, for by man came death, therefore by man must come the resurrection from the dead.
The new Song teaches us that a solution has been found, a man has come forth who is indeed worthy and able to undo what we have done, to save us from our sins, and to make us over again in Gods Image. Worthy is the Lamb that was slain and has redeemed us by his blood!
The events of Revelation 4-5 stretch from the creation all the way down to the end of all time. At the last we come to the culmination of history, for John saw where we are headed, in this vision we behold it with rapt awe.
Myriads of Myriads of Holy Angels, proclaiming the worthiness of the Lamb who was slain, giving Him glory and Honor and power. Daniel saw this scene also, for the Angels surrounded the throne of the Ancient of Days, to attend unto Him,
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.(Daniel 7:9-10)
As in Johns vision, One like a Son of Man was brought up to the Throne, who received everything from God-
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.(Daniel 7:13-14)
This leads to a universal chorus, for every creature in heaven, and on earth, and even those underneath the earth blessing God and the Lamb, Blessing and Glory and Honor and Power forever!.
We are given this glimpse of historys climax, and our heart is quickened. We who know Jesus, having never seen him but loving Him, long to be part of this, that is to see, hear and even to enter into this scene, for already the heart cries out Yes, Amen, Glory to God and to the Lamb, forever and ever!, and we now that it has been prepared for us as well.
Paul quotes a hymn that was in use in the early church, which captures something of this very scene, in Philippians 2:5-10,
who, although He existed in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied Himself,
taking the form of a bond-servant,
and being made in the likeness of men.
Being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross.
For this reason also,
God highly exalted Him,
and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW,
of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
So history ends as it should, with all creation worshipping and acknowledging the Incarnation of God, the redeeming love of God the Father, the Sovereign,Infinite, personal creator, and redeemer. Hallelujah! Its not the end, its the beginning! Maranatha!
Thanks for another good read, Pastor Bill, and let’s hope that through God’s grace we may see that day with our own eyes.
