Manchester Cathedral is to host a new age festival featuring tarot card readers, crystal healers and dream interpretation.
Local Anglican leaders have agreed to throw open the doors of the historic cathedral in a bid to embrace alternative forms of Christianity.
Fortune tellers, meditation experts and traditional healers will fill the pews during the day-long festival in May. The Bishop of Manchester, Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch, said he wanted to celebrate all forms of spirituality.
The Spirit of Life festival on May 2 will also feature stalls and workshops on angels, prayer bead-making and massage.
Fire-breathing vicar Rev Andy Salmon, of Sacred Trinity Church and St Philip with St Stephen in Salford, will also perform.
Bishop Nigel said the unconventional activities were not incompatible with Christian belief.
He said: The event is a chance to discover and explore old and new Christian spiritual traditions from living in a community to praying with icons, from healing to bead-making, from Franciscan spirituality to contemporary music and movement.
Practitioners from all over the country will be on hand to offer their experience of how God speaks to us today through the cultural language and practices so common in mind, body, spirit fairs.
It comes after the Manchester diocese held its first-ever stall at the Mind Body Spirit festival at Manchester Central.
Mind Body Spirit is aimed at self exploration and self improvement and was held in Manchester in November.
At the time Bishop of Middleton, the Rt Rev Mark Davies said: The Manchester Mind Body Spirit attracts thousands of visitors wanting to experience the exhibitions, workshops and music, and to meet authors and artists. For the first time Manchester churches will be on hand at a stand to talk about Christian spirituality.
We invite people to stop by the Spirit of Life stand to meet with people who will be happy to talk with them about their experiences of searching for spiritual meaning in todays world.
The event will cost £5 with children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.
Generally, whenever some “religious” person begins talking about “spirituality”, he is NOT speaking if the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity.
Christ himself believed in demons. He just forced them into pigs and drove them over a cliff; he didn't open the doors and invite them in.
There is also a Daily Mail article (and comments)—
This is not alternative forms of Christianity (which in the Anglican’s case would be protestant, reformed, orthodox, and nondenominational christians). This is blatant OCCULT! Jesus is not amused.
When talking to someone who has been captured by the New Age worldview, a Christian can affirm his or her desire for greater spirituality in the midst of our materialistic culture. Their longing for inspiration and wonder in life is legitimate as well as their craving for a sense of personal worth. Yet, Christians also need to explain that New Agers are selling themselves short by seeking personal fulfillment an a nonpersonal source- the New Age cosmic force. Only a personal God can meet their deepest need for love and unconditional acceptance.
The nice thing about this type of "thinking" is that as soon as it spills out of their mouths, you can automatically subtract about 50 IQ points, and start to judge any opinions as if they were coming from any over-sized 4th grader...
All I can say is “Yikes”. Occult practices are a portal of entry for the Evil One. Boy are these people being led astray. Very sad.
Not in my synagogue, thank God.
Well I hope the Cathedral burns to the ground - it is no longer Christian if it can host such things - that’s my tolerant side LOL
Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. Deu 18:12 For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
2Ch 33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
Thanks for posting the words. So many Freepers fail at that.
Anybody who continues to support this church while the powers that be make these types of decisions are out of their mind. I wouldn’t step foot in this place until these apostates are gone. Where are the people to call these clowns out?!
I will probably have a stack to answer for on the day of judgement . . . but sure hope I'm not standing in line anywhere near these church 'leaders'.
Manchester Cathedral, I assume not to be, any time soon, part of the new ordinarinate with this ‘all inclusive’ jive.
My advice would be to run from any church, organization or group the endorses or takes part in that attitude. I would ask any pastor, priest, rabbi or church leader how they view such a statement and if they agree leave, run, separate yourself from that organization.
Yet another thing Henry VIII will have to answer for.
And what else do you expect when the Anglicans are led by a publicly professed Druid.
Anyone who actually reads their bible will be familiar with the following quotes:
HAVING A FORM OF GODLINESS BUT DENYING THE POWER THEROF:
FROM SUCH TURN AWAY.
If the news article is correct, it appears that the Bishop Of Manchester wants to welcome a spirit of divination through tarot reading and obviously doesn’t see a problem mixing christianity with the occult?
WHAT FELLOWSHIP CAN LIGHT HAVE WITH DARKNESS?
Has the Rt Rev Mc Culloch forgotten that The Apostle Paul cast OUT a spirit of divination from the fortune teller rather than invoking one?
HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNFRUITFUL WORKS OF DARKNESS BUT RATHER EXPOSE THEM.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
