Seventy metal books found in cave in Jordan could change our view of Biblical history.....For scholars of faith and history, it is a treasure trove too precious for price.
This ancient collection of 70 tiny books, their lead pages bound with wire, could unlock some of the secrets of the earliest days of Christianity. Academics are divided as to their authenticity but say that if verified, they could prove as pivotal as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947.
On pages not much bigger than a credit card, are images, symbols and words that appear to refer to the Messiah and, possibly even, to the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
Adding to the intrigue, many of the books are sealed, prompting academics to speculate they are actually the lost collection of codices mentioned in the Bibles Book Of Revelation.......

What? Did Gladys Knight find a fourth Pip?
Wow. I hope they’re genuine.
No one dot or tittle.
Very interesting, I wonder what’s in them.
Oh my heck! Proof positive that the golden plates truly exist!
I pray this is not a centuries-in-the-works or otherwise hoax.
I pray God’s will and God’s will alone will govern what occurs vis a vis this find.
Ping. Interesting early Church related find.
I believe they are genuine, all part of GOD’s divine plan to save human beings from eternal destruction...Revelaing his eternal truth in these *Last Days*
Dr Margaret Barker, a former president of the Society for Old Testament Study, said: The Book of Revelation tells of a sealed book that was opened only by the Messiah.
Other texts from the period tell of sealed books of wisdom and of a secret tradition passed on by Jesus to his closest disciples. That is the context for this discovery
I suspect that this is going to turn out to be more reinforcement for the accuracy of the fragments we already have.
Does say GOD will reveal his secrets in latter days.....
GOD works in Mysterious ways....
That's Gnosticism, and it is heretical. Although the amount of gnosticism present in today's world is extraordinary. Many people are led astray by the thought that they can get secret wisdom which mere Christians do not have access to.
Agreed, Daniel does say that secrets would be revealed in the last days but could this be Daniel’s book? I would think that it’s much too young for that.
No it isn’t...
GOD said, everything that has been hidden will be revealed and known...
That is in the Holy Scriptures...
I’m not sure what the tools of that day are, but something about the wire used to bind it doesn’t seem right.
The wire appears to be ‘smelted’ or formed through a process of heating and stretching iron.
The other thing is, it appears to be cut by wire cutters.
As I said. I don’t know what the tools were back then, but the wire itself is rather an intriguing part of it.
JMO (not necessarily to be taken seriously)
I hope they reveal what they truly say....
God can choose to reveal that which is hidden. I was trying to respond to the notion that Jesus passed on a “secret teaching” to some individuals while He walked the Earth. I don’t believe that particular notion is Biblical.
In the Book of Revelation the number SEVEN is used throughout. There are SEVEN churches, SEVEN Spirits, SEVEN stars, SEVEN seals, SEVEN trumpets, SEVEN vials, SEVEN personages, SEVEN dooms, and SEVEN new things. SEVEN symbolizes Spiritual Perfection.
All of life revolves around this number. SEVEN is used over 700 times in the Bible. It is used 54 times in the Book of Revelation.
The whole Word of God is founded upon the number SEVEN. It stands for the SEVENTH day of the Creation Week, and speaks of the Millennial Rest day. It denotes COMPLETENESS or PERFECTION.
In Leviticus 23:15-16, the number SEVEN and the Sabbath, which was the SEVENTH day, is connected with the word COMPLETE. The word COMPLETE follows after the words SEVEN SABBATH (Seventh day). The day following the SEVENTH sabbath there was something NEW that took place.
The word FINISHED is also connected with the number SEVEN. In Revelation 10:7 we read,
In the days of the voice of the SEVENTH angel, when he shall begin to sound the mystery of God should be FINISHED.
It is DONE is another expression found in connection with the number Seven.
And the SEVENTH angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne saying, It is DONE. (Revelation 16:17)
What I found in regards to the Book of Daniel:
In the second chapter of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a great image whose head was of gold, arms and breasts of silver, his belly and things of brass, legs of *IRON*, and feet of iron and clay. (Daniel 2:31-33)
Daniel told him that he was the head of gold (vs 37-38) In the next chapter Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold to be worshipped. At that time he called together SEVEN kinds of officials to the dedication of the image: (1) princes, (2) governors, (3) captains, (4) judges, (5) treasurers (6) counselors, (7) sheriffs. The penalty for refusing to worship that image was death by being cast into the burning fiery furnace.
THREE Hebrew children refused to worship the image and were cast into that furnace of death, and brought forth alive, thus picturing the resurrection, signified by the number THREE That furnace was heated SEVEN times hotter than it had ever been.
Here is a COMPLETE DELIVERANCE FOR GODS PEOPLE from the power of death. (Daniel 3:1-27) When those THREE Hebrew children came out of that furnace of fire, or death, there was not a trace of fire upon their bodies or their clothing. When Christ brings His people out of death there will not be a trace of death left on them. The will be COMPLETELY delivered from its power.
Is that the Mormon’s Holy Grail you speak of? I hear Romeny has first dibs on them.
Don’t see any explanation for the baling wire.
While I’ve long been aware of the significance of numbers in the Bible, it’s always good to refresh our understanding of it. It usually results in a better understanding and a heightened awareness of God’s design and planning in all aspects of not only our personal lives but in history at large.
How difficult would it have been to have taken good photographs of each “page” so everyone could study just what was recorded?
I’m assuming that you’re referencing the wire bindings on the book shown above? I would suggest that, while it may look like a modern invention, it really isn’t. Anyone who has ever studied ancient warfare knows that the Romans, in particular, were extremely talented when it came to matters of engineering and making wire like this would have been no different, especially considering that it had military applications. While this was found in a region of Israel, it would still have been a technology that the people living in that area at the time would have been familiar with, if for no other reason than they could have seen it in use by the Romans.
Don't worry, it will be done ...
That bothered me as well.
Interesting on biblical *Metals*
symbol of God
the price of a soul
Brass, Copper, Bronze
symbol of sin
judgment of sin
heaviness of the heart
symbol of the work of men’s hands
I just hope no one tries to, once again censor GOD’s truth to the human race, Man has been doing that from the beginning...
More here. Wonder if the EPA will seize and destroy them because they contain (gasp) LEAD?
That is awesome! I pray they will reveal more of this miraculous find...
If they are genuine I doubt we will need magic spectacles, or a peepstone in a hat to read them. And I’ll bet they are NOT in “reformed Egyptian”.
Just my take on the matter.
***SEVEN seals, ***
If we look at the photo as we would look at a regular book, with the hinges (5) on the left, that gives us SEVEN seals on the top and right side.
Just a thought.
Are they gold plated books of Joseph Smith and the Mormons? (kidding)
A group of 70 or so “books”, each with between five and 15 lead leaves bound by lead rings, was apparently discovered in a remote arid valley in northern Jordan somewhere between 2005 and 2007.
A flash flood had exposed two niches inside the cave, one of them marked with a menorah or candlestick, the ancient Jewish religious symbol.
A Jordanian Bedouin opened these plugs, and what he found inside might constitute extremely rare relics of early Christianity.
That is certainly the view of the Jordanian government, which claims they were smuggled into Israel by another
As soon as I saw that, I was dumbstruckPhilip Davies
Sheffield University The Israeli Bedouin who currently holds the books has denied smuggling them out of Jordan, and claims they have been in his family for 100 years.
Jordan says it will “exert all efforts at every level” to get the relics repatriated.
The director of the Jordan’s Department of Antiquities, Ziad al-Saad, says the books might have been made by followers of Jesus in the few decades immediately following his crucifixion. [I doubt this since Crucifixions on a “cross” didn’t happen until much later]
“They will really match, and perhaps be more significant than, the Dead Sea Scrolls,” says Mr Saad.
“Maybe it will lead to further interpretation and authenticity checks of the material, but the initial information is very encouraging, and it seems that we are looking at a very important and significant discovery, maybe the most important discovery in the history of archaeology.”
The texts might have been written in the decades following the crucifixion..They seem almost incredible claims - so what is the evidence?
The books, or “codices”, were apparently cast in lead, before being bound by lead rings. Their leaves - which are mostly about the size of a credit card - contain text in Ancient Hebrew, most of which is in code. If the relics are of early Christian origin rather than Jewish, then they are of huge significance.
One of the few people to see the collection is David Elkington, a scholar of ancient religious archaeology who is heading a British team trying to get the lead books safely into a Jordanian museum.
He says they could be “the major discovery of Christian history”, adding: “It’s a breathtaking thought that we have held these objects that might have been held by the early saints of the Church.” He believes the most telling evidence for an early Christian origin lies in the images decorating the covers of the books and some of the pages of those which have so far been opened.
Mr Elkington says the relics feature signs that early Christians would have interpreted as indicating Jesus, shown side-by-side with others they would have regarded as representing the presence of God.
Yeah that’s true!
Hope more will be coming...!
I kinda remember that story and always liked it!
And if you take 2 x 7 you get 14. Add the 1 and the 4 and you get 5.
Add the 5 to the original 14 and you get... 19!
****How difficult would it have been to have taken good photographs of each page so everyone could study just what was recorded?****
What? And deny the Academics (and book publishers) the chance to hold these over our heads for the next 50 years like they did the Dead Sea Scrolls, only releasing a little bit here and a little bit there!
***A Jordanian Bedouin opened these plugs, and what he found inside might constitute extremely rare relics of early Christianity.****
I am surprised he didn’t open the seals, cut the lead pages into little bitty pieces, then sell them to the authorities one little piece at a time as they did the Dead Sea Scrolls.
That is why many of the Dead Sea Scrolls are in such small pieces.
