Jim Robinson was the AM at the time

D&C 1: 38.
38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.

1 Jn. 4
6 WE are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us,
because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that WE loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

It seems some never really read the lyric only the title

Praise to the man WHO communed with Jehovah!

In other words praise to the mortal man who communes with the Almight God!

BTW Emperor Palpatine thsoe who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Should we sing hymns of praise to other great men such as Moses then too? lol. Only God is deserving of praise and hymns.

In other words praise to the mortal man who communes with the Almight God!

So you are still praising man. It may be fitting to say "blessed is the man to whom God revealed Himself" (J. Smith's visions however were false and he had many different version of them. God did not reveal Himself to Smith), but not "praise to the man." Praise implies adoration and worship.

Yes, it seems the LDS are very good at ambiguous responses. They often seem quite afraid to address certain things Joseph Smith taught.

1 Peter 2

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

What a wonderful twisting. There is a hugh difference between the way the word 'praise' is used in these instances.

The use of the word in a sentence like this--"Her boss praised her for the good work she did," or, "for the praise of them that do well," fits one definition of praise:

praise : the act of expressing approval or admiration; commendation

Hymns and songs of adoration towards Smith fit the other defintion:

praise : the offering of grateful homage in words or song, as an act of worship

But talking to a cult is often like talking to a wall.

Indeed. They put their fingers in their ears and go 'tra la la la', or claim persecution when asked simple questions about their faith. Rofl. It shows that their beliefs must be awfully indefensible and flimsy since they refuse to step up and give real answers without dodging.

Listen rusty you go to any Christian Church and there are no songs that praise a man.
Joseph Smith was a liar, a thief, a charlatan, he restored nothing as nothing need to be restored.
You want to pin your eternal soul on a man who was an admitted liar, thief charlatan, murder, adulator, pedophile .............go right ahead but do not tell me what I know to be true about mormonISM is wrong.
I get it, I know it, and it has destroyed members of my family. I know what mormonISM is and I loath it.

Just to let lurkers know, this is the song we are talking about:

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Praise to his memory, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Stain Illinois* while the earth lauds his fame.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know “brother Joseph” again.

Chorus:

Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Anyone, anyone at tell me is this not a worship song to Joseph Smith instead of Jesus of the Bible.

Wow. That is one disgusting song. We should ‘Praise’, ‘extol’, ‘revere’, ‘laud’, and ‘hail’ him? ‘Great is his glory’? Nope, not a bit of worshipfulness in that song. /s

Indeed! And yet the Mormons claim they don’t actually worship Joseph Smith. The song seems to indicate the contrary. lol

Sounds like Joseph Smith worship to me!

Indeed it does! And I find it interesting that they say Gods and not God.

I also find this part interesting:

"Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom"

His kingdom? No mention of God's kingdom. "His Kingdom" must be the planet that he is supposed to have received after his death and "ascension to godhood." lol

And yet Mormons have the gall to call themselves Christians. Heh heh heh heh...
