I have chosen to address the theme of “politics and the devil,” not because I plan to suggest that anyone in our national political life has made a pact with Lucifer—although, given the current environment, you never know; it’s not the sort of thing you’d put in a press release—but because it is the title of an essay by the late University of Chicago philosopher Leszek Kolakowski. Kolakowski was a former Marxist, a very gifted scholar, and a skeptic about many things—but not about the reality of evil or the nature of the devil. One of the disturbing things for Kolakowski’s secular colleagues was that he talked about Satan not as a metaphor or legend or the figment of neurotic imaginations, but as a living actor in history. As a result, the idea that the “separation of Church and state” should force us to exclude our religious beliefs from guiding our political behavior makes no sense at all, even superficially. If we don’t remain true in our public actions to what we claim to believe in our personal lives, then we only deceive ourselves. Because God certainly isn’t fooled. He sees who and what we are. I would not mind seeing the current president of ND replaced.
But this Right to Life group was able to get Archbishop Chaput to speak there...
It is step in the right direction.
Now, if ND would only drop the charges against the ND88.

Jenkins still remains the "clown-prince" at Notre Dame, Mary Daly's presence at the University is a huge positive.
Notre Dame law professor Charles Rice has been critical of some of the university administration’s responses, saying Notre Dame should have had an official presence at every March for Life since 1973. Last year Rice said any changes would be “cosmetic” unless charges are dropped against pro-life protesters arrested at the time of the 2009 commencement.
I agree. Any news on ND88? That issue has been silent since February, near as I can tell...

Many people do not realize that it is tougher for a priest, or someone who has great responsibility, to get to heaven.
There was one saint, known as such on earth, who heard that the pope had passed away. He literally took off, and hid so that they would not elect him pope. I think this was about 500 years ago -- give or take 100 years...

A choir director I once knew had a dream about a [deceased] priest she once knew whom she thought was a good priest. From the conversation, she probably thought he went straight to heaven on his death.
In the dream, the priest begged the woman to pray for him, and said that he would pray for her.
She was puzzled by this, but I guess she did realize he was probably in purgatory (or was surprised by the fact).
I would hope I might have a chance at purgatory when I die. I would be very happy spend a century in Purgatory with a chance for heaven -- which I do not deserve.
Father Jenkins, because he is at such a center of scandal, and he is in charge of the best known Catholic University in the United States, is in great peril.
At least, that is my opinion.
I remember when Marymount Manhattan got tossed out of the Catholic Church over Hillary Clinton announced as the speaker for Commencement (similar to Obama at Notre Dame).
This was shortly after Pope Benedict XVI was elected, and it was just announced that Pope Benedict had an email.
It is sort of a humorous story, as I was working at Priests for Life at the time, and Father Frank Pavone told us to use our work email (with the priestsforlife.com domain) for private emails.
I had sent out a number of emails to Pope Benedict and copying the president of Marymount Manhattan to voice my opinion [about Hillary Clinton speaking at the Commencement]. For some reason, it did not dawn on me that the Vatican might pay special attention to an email from Priests for Life. [Unbelievably stupid/naive on my part, but I had a large plank in front of my eyes.]
To make a long story short, I sensed that Father Frank was very upset at me, and it was discussed that there was some sort of problem with the Archdiocese of New York (Cardinal Egan and Father Frank). At one of our meetings, it was stated that the deal with Priests for Life being under the control of the Diocese of Amarillo had already been finalized. Otherwise, it sounded like there have been problems.
I got the sense at the time that because of Marymount Manhattan being kicked out of the Catholic Church, some soul was heading for hell because of it (probably someone at Marymount Manhattan.)
It still was something good -- that Cardinal Egan made an example out of Marymount Manhattan by tossing that college out of the Church. There were probably some Catholic Colleges that took note of it at the time, and it may have helped them and the Church.
I do not have regrets, for other souls might have been saved because of Cardinal Egan's example of tossing Marymount Manhattan out of the Catholic Church.
But there may be hope for that soul, whoever it is, that I sensed was lost at that time.
It is short of a long but I find interesting story. Maybe when I die, I find the truth out. I don't know if it will be a good thing or a bad thing at my judgement...
It is just that I fear for Father Jenkins, because of scandal the scandal he created. I seem to sense that he may be reaching a point of no return -- which I pray is not true. But Jesus said quite clearly that it is "better to put a millstone around your neck and be thrown into the sea than to cause scandal."
Sorry for the long post, but maybe it will help someone ... to realize the consequence of sin, and try to get to heaven...
