I am so saddened by “fallen away Catholics,” particularly those who move to one of the myriad forms of Protestant biblical legalism. They remind me of the “tragedian” in CS Lewis’ “The Great Divorce.”

So consumed with the minutae of self-justification (apparently they can be saved by grace no matter the moral failure, but practicing Catholics can not) they don’t recognize how wispy and insubstantial they are next to the “wife” they imagine a grievence with.

Indeed, like the atheist, if they truly didn’t believe, why are they so angry at those who profess that they contrive reasons to be offended.

What a blessing and what a difficult situation for her!

May God give her strength and perseverance.

My priest has shared that in the last two years there have been numberous confession by people who have been away from the church 5, 10, even 40 years. (And that’s out here in the west!)

So keep praying!

I don’t know what the numbers are for our diocese (Palm Beach), but at the rite of election I was amazed at how many people were either candidates or catechumens. And that was only half of them. They had another service for just as many people.

In the small RCIA program that my husband is in this year, there are 9 of them. Now that does not seem like many, but it’s more than we had in the last few years combined!

You’re right.

I’ll tell you what - I’m really looking forward to Divine Mercy Sunday this year. For me, it’s growing in importance each and every year. What a treasure!

We have several adults, and also several children being either Baptized and Confirmed, or just Confirmed on Saturday night. It’s always a joy to watch, and hubby and I sing in the choir, so it’s a double joy for us!

Another Rite of Election split because there were so many catechumens and candidates. Wowsies.

God bless us all.

I look at it this way; when you are a kid, you view Christmas as the greatest feast going, counting on getting Christmas gifts and the likes. But as you come into adulthood, and for me, come into the second half of it, you realize TIME is not in my favor, I am slowly aging, dealing with a season citizen mother, etc. Also you get what I call those “God moment’s” when you realize you must give your all to the Lord and life your life for HIM.

That to me is what EASTER is all about.
