I can imagine Jesus thinking “been there, done that”. What these people are doing are blasphemous. It makes a mockery of Jesus’ finished work.

I don't think that's really their intent; I think their intent is something closer to an overly-realistic Passion Play -- sort of a reminder to themselves and others of what Jesus did.

At least I hope that's what they're doing.
