Atheists Seek a Place Among Military Chaplains

In the military, there are more than 3,000 chaplains who minister to the spiritual and emotional needs of active duty troops, regardless of their faiths. The vast majority are Christians, a few are Jews or Muslims, one is a Buddhist. A Hindu, possibly even a Wiccan may join their ranks soon.

But an atheist?

Strange as it sounds, groups representing atheists and secular humanists are pushing for the appointment of one of their own to the chaplaincy, hoping to give voice to what they say is a large — and largely underground — population of nonbelievers in the military.

They’re already represented in the military. They’re called “psychologists.”

Why would an atheist want “spiritual guidance?”

Hey, wasn’t Major Hassan a military psychologist? Hmmmm.

Atheists, don’t believe, don’t need God, no chaplain needed.

Secular Humanists, has always been a religion, but first before you let them have chaplains, remove the RELIGION of Humanism from the SCHOOLS, separation of church and state, shall we say, eh?

Atheism is a religion.

They believe there is no God. Putting it in the affirmative, they believe that man is it. We’re the highest form of the species, and when we die, that’s it, we’re dead.

If you ask them to prove it, you get a bucket of nothing. It’s a faith. It’s a belief system like any other.

Agnosticism? Different, more honest animal.

Among the Armed forces in atheistic countries, there is something called a political officer. His duty was to make certain that all personnel toed the party line.We don’t yet have an equivalent position in our military.
