Harold Camping 'Flabbergasted'; Rapture a No-Show ["It's been a really tough weekend"]
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5/23/11 | Will Kane

(05-22) 19:18 PDT ALAMEDA -- The man who said the world was going to end appeared at his front door in Alameda a day later, very much alive but not so well.

"It has been a really tough weekend," said Harold Camping, the 89-year-old fundamentalist radio preacher who convinced hundreds of his followers that the rapture would occur on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Massive earthquakes would strike, he said. Believers would ascend to heaven and the rest would be left to wander a godforsaken planet until Oct. 21, when Camping promised a fiery end to the world.

But on Sunday, almost 18 hours after he thought he'd be in heaven, there was Camping, "flabbergasted" in Alameda, wearing tan slacks, a tucked-in polo shirt and a light jacket.

Birds chirped. A gentle breeze blew. Across the street, neighbors focused on their yard work and the latest neighborhood gossip.

how one considers it being a really hard weekend because the world did not end.

I put off doing dishes until after the 'rapture'. Wound up having to do them anyway. Does that count?

Comet? Asteroid? Hell, no! That explains how the "age of the dinosaurs" came to a sudden end!

What part of.... "for you know not the day nor the hour", do these idiots not get?

No kidding. That's what you get when you ignore Scripture.

True. bttt

The same trumpet - the trumpet that is blown in Matt. 24:34; 1 Thess.4:16, and 1 Cor.15:51-52 is the last trumpet wherein Jesus returns the second time as he promised [John 14:3] . At that time there will be the resurrection of both believers and unbelievers, the final judgement and the new heaven and the new earth. (Revelation 20 is now being fulfilled in this, the “church age” — an indeterminate period of time described by the figure of speech, “a thousand years” — which will continue until Christ returns the second time where all those end-time events occur at once.)

“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek...” [Romans 10: 12.] There is only ONE olive tree. [ Romans 11:24].

Abraham is the father of ALL the faithful.[Romans 9: 6-8].

I am currently reading this book. A much different story than Camping's

BTW, this book was written in 1881; you wouldn't believe how accurate it is!

The End of the Present World

Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life!"
— St. Thérèse of Lisieux

In the late nineteenth century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life’s mean material affairs—and toward the next life’s glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.

When Father Arminjon’s conferences were later published in a book, many others were able to reap the same benefit—including fourteen-year-old Thérèse Martin, then on the cusp of entering the Carmelite convent in Lisieux. Reading it, she says, “plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth.” Young Thérèse, filled with a sense of “what God reserves for those who love him, and seeing that the eternal rewards had no proportion to the light sacrifices of life,” copied out numerous passages and memorized them, “repeating unceasingly the words of love burning in my heart.”

Now the very book that so inspired the Little Flower is available for the first time in English.

Let the pages of The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life fill you with the same burning words of love, with the same ardent desire to know God above all created things, that St. Thérèse gained from them. Let them also enrich your understanding of certain teachings of the Faith that can often seem so mysterious, even frightening:

  • The signs that will precede the world’s end
  • The coming of the Antichrist, and how to recognize him
  • The Judgment and where it may send us: heaven, hell, and purgatory
  • Biblical end-times prophecy: how to read it and not be deceived

Jesus commands us to be ever-watchful for his return, and ever-mindful that we have no lasting city on earth. The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life is an invaluable aid to inculcating in your spirit that heavenly orientation, without which true human happiness cannot be found—in this world or the next.

This personal interpretation end times left behind nonsense only feeds the liberal stereotype that Christians are simpletons, buffoons, and morons.

What makes it difficult for the rest of Christianity is the fact that those who subscribe to personal interpretation end times left behind nonsense are.

"It has been a really tough weekend," said Harold Camping,

All things considered, it could have been worse.

Don't count on it.

The memos from the Raptured to those Left Behind are all ready to go:)

Two more "Left Behind" books to go-then we'll know how the world ends

Excerpt:

"... An Assyrian clay tablet dating to around 2800 B.C. bears the inscription: “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book and the end of the world is evidently approaching.”

"CRISIS THEOLOGY" in action. bttt

Maybe it did happen and he/we didn’t make it. :)

I know this is meant is jest, but some believe this secret rapture nonsense. Matthew 24:30 makes it very clear that no one will miss it:

"And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and the shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:30)

Big deal, a confused old man made a fool of himself. Camping hasn’t done one 1/100 of the damage the largest of the mainstream denominations have done in the last few years. Camping hasn’t been ordaining gays and women or denying the exclusivity of Christ as the only path to salvation.

This is nothing though, compared with the demagogues, hacks, and liars who continue to claim that human activity will melt the icecaps, destroy whole genera of flora and fauna, including the majority of humanity living within a couple hundred feet of sealevel...
