The religious broadcaster who made the world's biggest mistake, twice, is bewildered that things did not go according to his prediction and the world did not end at 6 pm on May 21.
Harold Camping, whose radio network is reported to be worth between USD 70 million and USD 120 million, was nowhere to be seen publicly Sunday after his prediction didn't come true, according to media reports on Monday. Camping's Family Radio network in Oakland, California, broadcasts on 150 stations in the US, as well as reaching audiences in Europe, Asia and Africa
Tom Evans, a Family Radio board member, told ABC News Camping was at his Oakland home "somewhat bewildered" and "mystified" that the rapture did not happen
Perhaps they have a different definition of 'non-profit' than I...
Another wolf in the flock! How many will now turn against Christ because of this terrible man?
I pray that this man sincerely asks for forgiveness from Jesus, and that those he led astray can find the truth for themselves.
No one knew Scripture like Jesus Christ. As the Word He inspired and shaped it. Yet even He did not see the date of His return hidden within it. Unless you think he lied when He said:
"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
So who does a human being think he is trying to go over Jesus' head to sneak a peek.
Matthew 24:36 (King James Version)
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
But don't you know that all Pre Trib Rapture types believe that Matthew is only for the Jews...
Their definition is that they make the profit, but you pay their taxes!
Which of course is not the case... while the original audience of Matthew was the Jews who needed proof that Jesus is the Messiah, that little part later on about "every tribe, tongue and nation kinda broadens the scope of that message. :)
We need to militantly and in the strongest possible way do everything to rebuke these blasphemers. As was pointed out, these actions are those of a grievous wolf as mentioned in Acts 20.
God is flabbergasted that ANY MAN would predict a time for the end of the world. Jesus said NO MAN knows the HOUR...not the angels in heaven, not even the Son...ONLY the Father knows the time.
“I’m flabbergasted, I tell you!” as he headed for the bank, counting his money.
That was awkward
Camping has proven to be the quintessential "non-prophet."
Or was he headed out of the bank counting the money? Has he been seen since May 21?
Many and many will not even look at Christianity -- this is from an Indian website, so Camping has affected missionary work there I'm sure as well as elsewhere
I'm gonna guess "very few". Seriously, people who believe in Christ will not turn against him because an old man made a fool of himself. And people who didn't believe will not have their minds changed either.
It made Christianity look very foolish when his goofy notion went viral.
Gee, thank you for your kindness and good words. I’m sure these brethren feel your goodness and love for them.
true. the hindus and moslems were laughing. Not to mention the secularists who had a field day. This will be tossed in the face of ALL of us Christians
Militantly? What Bible do YOU read? I knew that kind of language was in the Koran, but I certainly didn’t think it was in the Holy Scriptures.
I'm not sure I get this -- he does point out that some believe Matthew is only for the Jews
I've heard many on this very forum tell me that all the gospels, the letters to the Hebrews, Peters letters, James etc. all except the Pauline Epistles were only for the Jews.
The Holy Bible.
The same Bible in which Jesus cleanses the Temple by literally turning over tables and whipping the people who have turned God's House into a den of theives.
I am not suggesting we beat up Harold Camping or otherwise harm him, but after having to deal with people who are either convinced that what he was saying was true, and after having to deal with non-believers who attempted to use this blasphemy to attack Christianity, I find the only way to deal with such people is to militantly and ferociously rebuke them... with Scriptural Truth, not physical violence.
I will never attack anyone for their belief system (though I will evangelize to them if they are curious... I know this is the coward's way out, but it is my sin that I keep committing), but if someone attacks my faith, I pray that I will have the guts to respond. After all that Jesus did and continues to do for me, every single day, and with my unworthiness of His love and grace, it is the very, very least I can do for Him.
... but did he repent?
I understand Camping has a degree in engineering which is not a bachelor of arts type fake college degree. Which proves my point: being smart in one thing does not make you smart in an unrelated field. In Camping’s case end of the world forecasting.
The servant is not greater than the Master. John 15:20
ouch, I’m an engineer, now that hurts! What type of engg is he? :)
Rosh Ha Shana is; the day and hour that no man knows. It is an idiom just like we use the phrase “turkey day”. I went to Campings web site, one of his biggest mistakes is he didn’t understand that G-d is jewish and teaches using jewish concepts. does anyone else on this blog know why RHS is know to be “the day that no man knows”?
I have no idea. But I also have a younger brother who’s an engineer, but definitely not among the Harold Campings of the world. He’s way to the left side of the political spectrum. I mean Michael Moore territory. Which again proves my point about engineers and other smart people in the hard sciences: engineers can be very smart in one area, engineering and the math skills needed to get a degree in it, but not very intelligent in other areas. I don’t know what percentage of engineers are libs, but I suspect my brother and other political liberal engineers might be in the minority. At least I hope so.
He was a Civil.
Not a Chem E thank God. Though after getting some of the fumes I do, I can see some interesting things on the way to the ER.
The rapture was supposed to be on the 21st of May. The world is supposed to end on 21 October.
BTW, this book was written in 1881; you wouldn't believe how accurate it is!
In the late nineteenth century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this lifes mean material affairsand toward the next lifes glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.
When Father Arminjons conferences were later published in a book, many others were able to reap the same benefitincluding fourteen-year-old Thérèse Martin, then on the cusp of entering the Carmelite convent in Lisieux. Reading it, she says, plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth. Young Thérèse, filled with a sense of what God reserves for those who love him, and seeing that the eternal rewards had no proportion to the light sacrifices of life, copied out numerous passages and memorized them, repeating unceasingly the words of love burning in my heart.
Now the very book that so inspired the Little Flower is available for the first time in English.
Let the pages of The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life fill you with the same burning words of love, with the same ardent desire to know God above all created things, that St. Thérèse gained from them. Let them also enrich your understanding of certain teachings of the Faith that can often seem so mysterious, even frightening:
Jesus commands us to be ever-watchful for his return, and ever-mindful that we have no lasting city on earth. The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life is an invaluable aid to inculcating in your spirit that heavenly orientation, without which true human happiness cannot be foundin this world or the next.
***It made Christianity look very foolish when his goofy notion went viral.***
At least the New Agers kept the world from being destroyed several years back, during an alignment of the planets, when they went to several non-christian “holy” sites, stood around in a circle holding hands, looked up and said...”Ah-h-h-h-h-h-”.
Now will they give us a 2012 encore and will it get the same amount of attention and ridicule Camping deservedly gets?
"Militant" was a poor choice of words on my part. I apologize for even hinting that any form of violence be brought upon Harold Camping. I still stand by the charge that we must rebuke such people in the strongest possible terms though.
The same is also said about Stephen Hawking and his philosophies on the afterlife.
This year or 2012? Or, as dd pointed out, perhaps it is 2102? :)
Well, people made a lot of fun of them as well (”the harmonic convergence “ - hee hee) And who can forget the Mayan 2012 end-of-the-world prophecy that the new animists have promulgated, which has been disavoyed, most notably by the Mayans themselves.
Eschatology is for the birds. We’re all stuck here with eachother for a while yet, it seems.
I think it is supposed to be this year.
