Rapture Prophet Harold Camping's 'Really Tough Weekend' (VIDEO: The man finally emerges and speaks)
The Atlantic Wire ^ | 05/23/2011 | Adam Clark Estes

Posted on 05/23/2011 9:09:12 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Harold Camping emerged from his Alameda, California home yesterday to face reporters for the first time since the Rapture that never happened. Wearing a light jacket and speaking over chirping birds, Camping told the San Francisco Chronicle he was "flabbergasted" that the world did not end on Saturday. "I'm looking for answers," he told the reporter. "But now I have nothing else to say. I'll be back to work Monday and will say more then." Camping followers are similarly perplexed. "I don't think I am going to stop listening to him," one man added, heaving a deep sigh before continuing: "I don't know, I gotta listen to him on Monday, see what he says on the radio.

"Somewhat bewildered" and "mystified is how Camping's wife described her husband, before he finally emerged from his home yesterday afternoon. The International Business Times managed to capture Camping on camera, refusing to surrender any more than a few words and promising. "Give me a day, no interviews at all today -- sorry," Camping said. "You know this is a big deal, big deal, and I've got to live with it and I've got to think it out. So no interview please."

Camping's relative silence since Saturday's anti-climactic continuation of life on Earth weighs heavy on his followers' confidence. Robert Fitzpatrick, the 60 year-old retired New York transit worker who spent $140,000 on billboards for the coming apocalypse, responded with bewilderment as well. "I can't tell you what I feel right now," he told a crowd of reporters and tourists in Times Square Saturday evening. "I haven't understood it correctly because I'm still here."

At least one person may benefit from Camping's failure.

As we pointed out last week, author and would-be Doomsday prophet Tim Lahaye is next in line

RE: They believe all Bible prophecy has been fulfilled

You’re probably referring to FULL PRETERISTS.

Then there are also PARTIAL PRETERISTS who believe that many or most of Matthew 24 and the book of Revelations have already been fulfilled ( e.g. during the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 ), however there are still prophecies that have not been fulfilled.

I would put men like Hank Hanegraaf (of the Bible Answer Man and Christian Research Institute) and R.C. Sproul ( Ligonier Ministries) in the latter category.

RE: how did this become such a media hype?

Same way the Koran Burning church became a huge media hype.

In other words:

1. Slow day for hard news (or at least, news that does not require effort, knowledge and research to present).

2. Need to generate an excuse to keep the fearful tuning in to the news and updates (as if seeing the sky roll back as a scroll wouldn't be a big enough hint).

3. Any chance to jeer and scoff at Christians must be exploited!

Did he say that he was speaking for God, and that God told him about the date? I don’t think so, as such your Scripture passages don’t apply.

That being said, his doctrine is clearly flawed. He may have been sincere in his belief, and as it turned out he was sincerely wrong.

If I was a member of his congregation I’d be seriously evaluating other dogma that the church adheres to. There is without any doubt whatsoever other dogma based on similarly flawed doctrine. Some of it may even pertain to salvation itself.

Harold Camping is a false teacher in so many respects and his teachings are on the prophetic words in the Bible. You should hear him pontificate. Just go see a Youtube video and you can clearly see how he thinks he speaks for God. These scriptures I posted are highly applicable and dead on to his activities and the garbage he has been preaching for quite some time.

That seems about right. A lot of people turn to religion as kind of an ego boost, during times of doubt they read their holy book for strength, of course the thing that makes you feel the strongest is confirmation that you’re right. During that first couple of years people decide on what their favorite verses are too, and once a person has their list of favorites those tend to be their starting points for reading, so they don’t stray out into “new” territory to find out that how they’ve been interpreting their favorite verses is way off.

Rejoice and BE GLAD.... happy is a temporary state...no one is or can be happy all the time, but “joy” is that underlying happiness of the heart. To say God doesn’t want us “happy” is a grave misrepresentation of Him.

We are on God's time - something Spiritual happened Sat night with me and my friends -- Spiritual eyes opened.

John 3:3 NIV In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. "

Solution is simple: repent!

Is there something fundamentally wrong with being happy and enjoying life? I don’t want to get into a debate, just curious about your views.

Still haven’t figured out your problem with me. I’ve shown no support for Camping. YOU were the one who wondered if Jesus wasn’t already back and we all just don’t know it. I suggest that you contact Camping. Clearly you feel you have inside information.

I don’t have a problem with you. You said you knew for a fact and I just suggested you tell Camping.

He does not want us to fear and we are to be joyful (his children that is), but you will find no place in scripture that instructs us that He wants us to be happy.

An omnipotent father who doesn't want his children to be happy is pretty sick in human terms. But I suppose that might be scriptural.

We don’t denigrate your Judaism, so don’t denigrate our religion. Most of us are Christians so deal with it.
