Indeed. If you want a good hat, go to the Orthodox hatters. Our taste in hierachial hats has been somewhat better than yours for centuries though the popes looked appropriately hierarchial until +Paul VIs gesture in 63. Hopefully +BXVI will wear this one the next time he is with one of our Patriarchs. However, you must admit that the Aussies make some good practical ones. :)

Why can’t they be physically fit carriers? Catholics are just as in shape as any other faith, even if beer does hold a special place in the culture.

Why the flap? Just curious! I believe that it was originally designed that way to allow for slinging a rifle over your shoulder so that the hat would not interfere with it. I wear mine pinned up on both sides unless it's raining and then I unsnap both sides. It normally stays shaped like a cowboy hat at that point and does a good job at channeling the rain towards the back.
