Frank Furedi, writing for Spiked Online, offers this solid and rather chilling analysis of the passage of "same-sex marriage" legislation in New York State:

From a sociological perspective, the rise of the campaign for gay marriage provides a fascinating insight into the dynamics of the cultural conflicts that prevail in Western society. Indeed, over the past decade the issue of gay marriage has been transformed into a cultural weapon, which explicitly challenges prevailing norms through condemning those who oppose it. This is not so much a call for legal change as a cause, a crusade – and one which endows its supporters with moral superiority while demoting its opponents with the status of moral inferiority.

The campaign for the legalisation of gay marriage does not simply represent a claim for a right; it also represents a demand for the institutionalisation of new moral and cultural values. This attitude was clearly expressed last weekend by Trevor Phillips, chairman of the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission. He argued that Christians, particularly evangelical ones, are more troublesome than Muslims in their attitudes towards mainstream views. In particular he warned that ‘an old-time religion incompatible with modern society’ was driving Christians to clash with mainstream views, especially on gay issues. Incidentally, by ‘mainstream’ he of course means views which he endorses.

Phillips’ choice of words implies that opponents of gay marriage are likely to be motivated by ‘old-time religion’, which is by definition ‘incompatible with modern society’. From this standpoint, criticising or questioning the moral status of gay marriage is a violation of the cultural standards of ‘modern society’. What we have here is the casual affirmation of a double standard: tolerance towards supporters of gay marriage, and intolerance towards opponents of gay marriage.

And so soft totalitarianism slowly hardens into overt discrimination, even oppression:

In the US, questioning the status of gay marriage is often depicted, not simply as an expression of disagreement, but as a direct form of discrimination. The mere expression of opposition towards a particular ritual, in this case gay marriage, is recast as more than a verbal statement – it is itself an act of discrimination, if not outright oppression.

So American journalist Hadley Freeman recently argued in the UK Guardian that gay marriage is not a suitable subject for debate. ‘There are some subjects that should be discussed in shades of grey, with acknowledgment of subtleties and cultural differences’, she wrote. But ‘same-sex marriage is not one of those’. Why? Because ‘there is a right answer’, she hectored, in a censorious tone. The phrase ‘there is a right answer’ is really a demand for the silencing of discussion. And just in case you missed the point, Freeman concluded that opposition to her favourite cause should be seen for what it was: ‘as shocking as racism, as unforgivable as anti-Semitism’.

It is worth noting that the rise of support for gay marriage, the emergence of this elite crusade against sexual heresy, coincides with the cultural devaluation of heterosexual marriage. Today, heterosexual marriage is frequently depicted as a site for domestic violence and child abuse. A review of academic literature on the subject would indicate a preoccupation with the damaging consequences of heterosexual marriage. Terms such as the ‘dark side of the family’ invoke a sense of dread about an institution where dominating men allegedly brutalise their partners and their children.

Strange, but nice-strange. Discussed on Fox’s Journal Report this afternoon was the Supremes’ decision on video games (freedom of speech won 5-4). The older female member of the panel (can’t remember the name at the moment) came out violently anti-decision but later nearly agreed that the problem of spreading barbarism and lewdity lay with the culture, not with the Court and the Constitution. Yet—I wonder what the “culture” would be if the Courts hadn’t already weighed in when and as they have.

Many of our government and church leaders are embracing the “new moral and cultural values.” This unholy alliance is attempting to label those of us who resist as homophobes, old-fashioned, etc. I wish to stand on a stump and yell, “No. I grieve for my friends entrapped in a miserable, unhealthy way of life that was never God's plan. Homosexuals are His beloved children, too, and I want to encourage them to live life to its full potential, in health and joy, not disease and depression. I will not embrace the subculture of homosexuality. It's time to stand and fight.

It is forcing the atheist/pagan/marxist paradigm and making the Bible hate speech and the freedom of religion obsolete.....it is basically.....believe something as despicable and demeaning as putting body parts in dysfunctional and biologically incompatible places which cause damage to the body and diseases......and if you DON’T approve then you are a “hater”, a “bigot”.

This is the truly evil and hideous thing about gay marriage— it forces you to teach young children that what they do with sexual organs doesn’t matter....there is no sexual morality. No good and bad thing you can do with your p*nis....which is an absolute lie. It destroys morality. When you have no sexual morality, you have no respect for women and men. Homosexual acts demean the body and diminish the soul and destroy meaning of life. It is evil. Beastiality is no different than homosexual acts....just the object is different, but when you are not using your body how God designed it.....you are using it in dysfunctional and evil ways since it causes disease and destruction.

Homosexuality is all lust and narcissism.....zero is a homosexual...probably was sodomized when he was a boy by Davis and he was deserted by any male role models so his sexual identity was damaged! It is why he is pushing for DADT....these dysfunctional, evil people want to force others to train their children to indulge in sexual immorality....it is learned and modeled.

Not enough parents are showing bareback mt. to their young boys....to condition them into the homosexual lifestyle. Homosexual activists like young men and boys since that is when they were seduced and fixated into that lifestyle.

This is the slippery slope to pederasty...exactly like the pagan orgies of ancient Greece where is was celebrated for old men to seduce young boys. Afghanis are the same—homosexual culture where women are despised and young boys (fresh meat) are idolized. It is always the case. (Lesbianism is just men hating and has nothing to do with sexual urges other than they have been abused or neglected or demeaned by men in their young life).

It will destroy society and culture to celebrate and embrace homosexuality It is sexist—segregates women and men in an evil way.........it is forcing Marxist ideology to destroy relationships between the sexes and biological connections between children and parents.

It will be the destruction of children and their worldview with the Christian paradigm....that which created the most fabulous societies on earth-—the ideology of the Copernicus’s, Newton’s, Beethoven’s, Shakespeare’s, Dostoevsky’s, Tolstoy’s, Einstein.....the ideas that create happiness, and beauty and mystery and romance. Marxists hate Christianity because they can’t make slaves of true Christians......Narcissists and sexual addicts are easy to control—any addict is but especially sexual addicts.

Homosexual cultures are rife with pederasty and women haters (homosexual Brownshirts) and segregated societies...where woman and men because of their natural differences...will not have any institution that is encouraged through law to unite them to devote the time and patience and years to raise emotionally healthy children so that we have flourishing communities.

My reply to the Homosexual Movement is simple.

Homosexuality was condemned during the time of Abraham. It was condemned under the law of Moses (Judaism). It is condemned under the law of Christ (Christianity). Any Christian who says otherwise is ignoring clear, simple teaching in the scriptures.

I don’t go around identifying myself by the kind of sexual pervesion I engage in in my bedroom. What you do in your bedroom is NONE OF MY BUSINESS. You will give an account to God for what you do. So don’t come telling me what you are doing.

You deserve NO SPECIAL rules or laws because you want to tell everyone that you engage in perverted sex.

I WILL discriminate against you. I WILL tell you that your perversion is condemned by God.

Thank you for the ping and post. Your own statement reflects what the Catholic Church has been doing for decades. It embraces God's homosexual children while encouraging them to adopt a life of chastity in conformity with the challenge God has given them. Some have embraced the message; the majority, on the other hand, have decided to punish any church that stands by that. Take a good look at Rhode Island that just legalized civil unions. The catholic bishop called these a "mockery" of marriage. The opposition responded with:

gay rights groups have been deeply dissatisfied with the Rhode Island civil union bill’s religious exemptions (the bill passed the state Senate on Wednesday; Gov. Lincoln Chafee is expected to sign the legislation). Marriage Equality Rhode Island campaign director Ray Sullivan told the Journal that while his group supported “commonsense” exemptions, other exemptions are “a license for any religious institution to operate outside the boundaries of law.”

There it is! The truth that lies below the surface of these legalizations. If you read only one article about New York State's democratic assault... read Sex and the Empire State, Losing marriage to sexual liberalism. It is a lengthy article spread over 5 pages. This is the homosexual agenda for the entire US!

We saw this clearly in the Varnum decision here in Iowa which led to the state supreme court ruling for sodomite fake marriage.

The plaintiffs made it clear in the court proceedings that their ultimate goal is to force society to accept their perversion as a positive good.

There was an excellent article I read earlier in the week explaining how they were able to capture Iowa. Just can't put my finger on it right now. In the meantime, there is hope!

The decline of Rome is more easily and directly traceable to the decision to split the Empire into the Eastern and Western spheres. Renamed Byzantium, the Eastern Roman Empire outlasted the Western Empire by a thousand years.

Look more towards economics and less to religion as both sections were Christian, but the Eastern Empire with its stranglehold on the east-west trade routes had the economic vitality to grow and prosper. Fat treasuries let the state maintain strong armies, keep the peasants satisfied, etc.

Correct. The rampant homosexuality was merely a symptom of the totally rotten moral taboo structure which had aided Rome in becoming an Empire. Sexual degeneracy is a symptom of a decaying dead soul.

Definitely happening here. It is part of a long range plan to destroy this nation. IIRC it was even listed by the numbers in the 43 Soviet Congress of the old Soviet Union. It didn’t sudeenly stop with the ending of the Soviet Empire. Look at what is the emperor of Russia!

Oh , yeah, I had this discussion on the FB page of one of my adult nieces last week after the NY decision. She stated she was proud of the NY legislature, and I said I didn't agree, and why. Lordy did I drop a stink bomb! She and another niece and their friends were horrified by my 'intolerance'. I mentioned the intolerance of the homosexual activists who have sued businesses out of existence for simply choosing not to offer their services to homosexuals wanting a wedding.

After several of their diatribes against what I was saying, I calmly mentioned that I hadn't been the one calling names and denigrating people. Frankly, I was surprised that neither of them have 'de-friended' me. I hope that some of my points made some sense to them, but I doubt it. This younger generation seems to have a hyper-sensitivity to 'fairness', without regard to any logic, or without giving any real thought to the consequences of any particular actions or events.

I remember back when I was a teen, perhaps the same old trick worked back then. People, especially at that age group, are susceptible to feeling sympathy to those who claim victimization. I used to buy some of the hate crimes mantra, until I had to stop and think about the logic involved.

Why were so many of these people so much against the logic that actually could be helpful, such as gun rights and self-defense? (Plenty of the hate crimes lobby was so denouncing of people owning guns, when in fact, loads of these beatings took as little as a few unarmed assailants)

How serious were some of these hate crimes?
(Plenty mentioned were vandalism, but then again, this could be a phony crime, unless you could seriously prove otherwise.)

How common were they?

Once I actually started pursuing these facts, I realized that plenty of this was more sensationalized than it was real.

The list could go on and on, but the general point made is this...

The idea of somebody being victimized, and somebody else being called in to be the hero, is something that plenty of coming of age people are really impressionable to, and lobbyists know this, and campaign it to their own effect.
