Feed Your Friend - Starve Your Enemy? That is NONSENSE!

If you are left in an island with a piece of bread and two people all starving to death, your friend before you and your enemy behind you, who would you feed?

Would you pick and choose your friend who has been so good to you or would you pick your enemy who has consistently attempted but failed in killing you? Well, anyone who would choose friend over enemy is both emotionally and spiritually immature as I'll attempt to demonstrate.

I know many would chant, "Feed your friends - starve your enemies!" That is not just NONSENSE but diabolical at best.  Feed your enemies first for that is the LAW (of love) and the (way of) CHRIST! It is quite true that we are humans and as humans, we are emotional beings. It is also a fact that we are both rational and spiritual beings too.  By our emotional and rational natures, it makes sense to feed our friend as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Aristotle point out respectively:

"There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship."

"Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods."

Wow! 2 enemies. . . Quite interesting. But I still hold to the LOVE of ENEMY out of Love for God who is Love.

I do believe in loving your enemy though (even if I would feed my friend, first). Joan Andrews is a heroic example of someone who loves her enemy in a Christian way, without compromising principles.

Obama had a huge birthday party to celebrate himself. All of Hollywood joined him. How many hungry children could have eaten had they only used all that money for those purposes? Poor Hollywood & Obama. So poor in spirit yet rich in ego. Obama and Hollywood don’t even let the poor eat cake. They keep it all for themselves.

Give half to your friend. Hold up the other half and ask your enemy if he is ready to reconcile with you. If he really and sincerely changes his mind and apologizes and wants to be your friend, give him the other half. If not, go ahead and eat the other half yourself.

You are probably going to all die after the bread is gone, anyway, but you could use these moments in a good way, working to help everyone prepare better to meet their maker.
