"Casting him as a director or perhaps as the star of 'Judah Maccabee' is like casting Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission," says Rabbi Marvin Heir.
Prominent Jewish leaders are beginning to speak out against Mel Gibson and Warner Bros. over their planned movie based on the life of religious icon Judah Maccabee.

My inclination is that Mel Gibson would do a good job, and could even possibly doing this as an atonement for past indiscretions.
I can understand that they might be angry at Mel Gibson for his earlier remarks. However, it seems like he is extending an olive branch here, and I can’t see why they would be opposed to this movie.
I’m interested in your take on this suject! Thanks!
Thank you Scutter. That matches my thought as well, but you stated it better than I did!
“Casting him as a director or perhaps as the star of ‘Judah Maccabee’ is like casting Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission,” says Rabbi Marvin Heir.”
Worst analogy in history. Mel had one drunken binge escapade. Madoff screwed people systematically for years. He’s a Rabbi...he should be able to do better than this.
I had not thought of that weakness of the analogy. Thank you.
LOL! “suject” should read as “subject!” Not enough coffee yet!
“F**king Jews...the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”
-Mel Gibson
There is no walking back from that one, Mel.
“There is no walking back from that one, Mel.”
Trying to imagine how screwed everyone would be if there lives were ruined by things they said when they were so drunk they blew a .23 on the breathalyzer test...nope, I can’t imagine it. Unless you’re one of those “wine makes you truthful” believers. Then there’s no further discussion...
The Golan-Globus team wasn’t available?
I recall the hysteria over his Passion of the Christ. It would spark a new holocaust or at the very least a brutal wave of anti-semitism. What happened along those lines? Zilch. Nada. Rien. ZERO. That’s all I have to say.
I’m Jewish and I’ve always like Mel Gibson. I say, “Right on, Mel”.
Alcohol could not make someone say something that they did not believe and it certainly could not make a good person say:
F**king Jews...the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.
-Mel Gibson
Nor could alcohol make a good person say:
“You look like a f-—cking pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of n-—ers it will be your fault.”
-Mel Gibson
Me too, and it’s about time someone made a movie about the Maccabees. I’ll watch it. In fact I’m looking forward to it.
It sounds very, “You don’t have the RIGHT to do a movie about OUR heroes!”, which is a classic liberal response. A little like liberals’ reactions when conservatives quote King or Kennedy. My bottom line:
Sierra Tango Foxtrot Uniform
or
St Francis U.
Colonel, USAFR
“Alcohol could not make someone say...”
I take it you haven’t spent a lot of time around drunks.
Sorry, I am not one to absolve someone of responsibility for their actions, simply because they had too much to drink.
“Sorry, I am not one to absolve someone of responsibility for their actions, simply because they had too much to drink.”
I don’t know who said anything about absolution. You’re filling in that blank. Understanding how something works doesn’t mean you approve of it.
He definitely has a history of mouthing off in crude ways, but one anti-semitic comment in an alcoholic rage I would not necessarily hold against him; if he makes a pro-Israel movie we can see that he obviously is not anti-Semitic.
The big Hollywood studios were founded or operated by Jews and some of the Biblical epics they produced were atrocious. Maybe the rabbis should hit the golden oldies at the movie rental kiosk.
Mel can make any movie he wants, and which he can get funding for. It’s still a mostly free country.
My thought is that if they don’t like it, they can make their own competing film.
Of course, they are entitled to their own opinion, but when they play the victim card, I tune ‘em out.
Mel may be an anti-Semite, but he’s a good actor, and he’s entitled to make a living.
I love Mel Gibson—yes, he has his faults but he deals with them and moves on. If anyone has never said anything or done something he is ashamed of-—then, let him tear down Gibson. (hmmmm—no one).
The “good” that Mel Gibson has done— outweighs the evil, BY FAR. He is a genius at making movies and made some of the greatest movies ever. The message in those movies are GOOD—not like most of the subversive, evil messages in most movies (and many by secular socialist “Jews”, by the way). That is why he is hated by MSM. He mocks their “sacred cows” of homosexuality and collectivism with his movies. God gave him great gifts for a reason.
Any person that has been vilified and targeted like Gibson by MSM has my vote of confidence. Someone with his looks and talent and wealth are always major targets by evil people—he is bound to trip up on occasion. It is called life and reality. What a life though!!!!! Go, Mel!!!!
BTW, hated the movie “Beaver”.
You know for a group with so much power they sure to hold their cards close to the chest.
So, the same Jewish community that continues to vote Democrat in spite of how the Dems treat Isreal hold their ground against Gibson?
Perhaps “prominent Jewish leaders” ought to worry more about the president they worship selling out their homies in Israel or the Middle Eastern psychopaths who would kill them at the drop of a hat instead of a troubled Hollywood personality who has no power to harm them.
Thanks for the ping, dear TEXOKIE! Gibson should be free to do whatever movie he chooses.
“Waaahhh! Look at me! I’m a hyper-sensitive, liberal Jew.”
Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that liberal Jews seem to believe (mistakenly) that only “Jews” may portray jews in the movies, while at the same time are mum about Jews portraying Christians and gentiles in Hollywood movies for almost 100 years. Talk about a double standard, eh?
This Rabbi sounds like a Jewish version of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
What maroon.
LOL, whatever.
Gibson has a BIG mouth and has made obnoxious comments, but what if this movie portrays Maccabee well and truthfully? That would go a long way (IMHO) towards making amends.
If this were done well and straight, it would be a great movie. Moreover, it might be a way for Mel to make amends to the Jewish community for his drunken anti-Semitic slur, which he is definitely responsible for (The Passion of the Christ was in no way anti-Semitic, simply a portrayal of the story in the Gospels.)
Yes, I agree - that is exactly how it sounds. Well, in any event, “Jewish Leaders” whatever that is, I am sure don’t speak for every Jew in America. Hopefully this will be a good movie. I will definitely go see it when it comes out.
Can’t watch Gibson anymore after he dumped his wife for the floosey. It’s a shame, too, since several of his movies were old favorites.
To forgive is divine.
At that point, he was getting bashed so relentlessly by the Jews, and the MSM for creating “The Passion” that I don’t blame him for breaking under the strain. He creates a brilliant film in dedication to his new found faith and a renewed vigor that resulted, but he got literally crucified for it and they are still holding it over his head as if he had made a film glorifying Nazism. That film wasn’t just a dedication to faith, but a brilliantly done piece of cinematic art, with a rawness that was real and he went above and beyond what he had to do. Since then he’s done “Apocalypto,” which is a genius film that brings to reality the culture of the declining Mayan empire and it also was done in the same fashion, with a reality that next to no directors/producers take the time to recreate.
Anyone in his situation would have cracked up and gone beserk.
As a Jew, I welcome Gibson’s effort here, as so far detailed. But do it right! The story of the Maccabees is not some cute story about a menorah and ‘8 crazy nights’ as most Jews vacuously ‘celebrate’ it today. Google ‘Meir Kahane’ and ‘Chanukah’ to find out what it is REALLY about.
In vino veritas.
Those opinions are shared by any number of other political and entertainment industry individuals, though, so all the high moral dudgeon directed solely at Gibson must have been motivated by something else.
What do you suppose that might have been?
“At that point, he was getting bashed so relentlessly by the Jews....”
Oh, so now you are blaming the Jewish people for making Mel Gibson state that the “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”
How Ironic.
Is there any thing else you want to blame of the Jewish people?
Well, living in the US and not experiencing the stuff that other Jews have had to has certainly made them soft. They are liberal because they can afford to be.
I’m not blaming all Jews and I didn’t exclude the MSM from the disgust I feel. Too many Jews freaked out that Americans would end up becoming brutally anti-semetic, but it didn’t happen.

Some are getting the message.
39 And the day following Judas came with his company, to take away the bodies of them that were slain, and to bury them with their kinsmen, in the sepulchres of their fathers. 40 And they found under the coats of the slain, some of the donaries of the idols of Jamnia, which the law forbids to the Jews: so that all plainly saw, that for this cause they were slain. 41 Then they all blessed the just judgment of the Lord, who had discovered the things that were hidden. 42 And so betaking themselves to prayers, they besought him, that the sin which had been committed might be forgotten. But the most valiant Judas exhorted the people to keep themselves from sin, forasmuch as they saw before their eyes what had happened, because of the sins of those that were slain. 43 And making a gathering, he sent twelve thousand drachms of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection. 44 (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead), 45 and because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them. 46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.
Amen! Doc!
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus “
Really? Pictures or links for this event? Surely it was covered on FR.

Agreed. What can be harmed by expecting the best? Gibson has made a number of fine movies. During a short period he ran amok, but it appears to me that he most likely regrets that.
There’s nothing good about many of the things that he said and did during that time, but I don’t think that anyone is arguing that there was. I feel sorry for him, because for the rest of his life he will never be able to forget how he shamed himself, and no one else will be able to forget it either.
“Im not blaming all Jews....”
Then you are simply blaming some of the Jewish people for forcing Gibson to say that all the wars in the world are caused by the Jews.
Do you have the names of these Jewish people who forced Gibson to blame them for all the wars in the world?
I think that in light of The Passion Of The Christ, Mel will certainly include that, Doctor. As far as I am concerned, I think he’ll do a fine job. I tend to stay away from most movies these days. But I am sure to see this one when it comes to the theater.
He’s a hollywierder. They are all elitist sickos in their own speical way. They all hate and demean somebody. Usually it is Christians.
Gibson makes good movies protraying slash and burn heros. Personally, he’s all slash and burn with no hero to be found. He’s a toxic drunk who fell off the wagon.
As he’s laying in the gutter, it is easy for the just as sicko Hollywierd Jews to kick him around. They all deserve each other.
