Largest 40 Days for Life ever! September 28 – November 6

 40 Days for Life locations

301 locations will take part in the next 40 Days for Life campaign (and a few more may be added, as we're working out final details with a few more).

There are 46 first-time campaigns – including locations in Puerto Rico, Argentina and Germany.

Take the leap of faith and get involved with 40 Days for Life

Have you been to pray at a 40 Days for Life vigil yet? You may ask, “What do I do?” or “What sign should I bring?” The answer is simple; the only sign you really need to bring is yourself, for you represent God’s love.

Concern about going to pray at the abortion facility is common — and normal. 40 Days for Life campaign director Shawn Carney shared some thoughts at the national Students for Life conference.

What 40 Days for Life has witnessed (so far!)

40 Days for Life in Glendale, California

There have now been eight coordinated 40 Days for Life campaigns since 2007, mobilizing people of faith and conscience in 337 cities across all 50 of the United States plus communities in Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Spain, Denmark, Georgia, Armenia and Belize.

During these unified efforts, participants witnessed countless blessings from God:

After so many years of legalized abortion, many people of faith are experiencing a renewed sense of HOPE!

Prayer and fasting

40 Days for Life in Little Rock, Arkansas

Before getting involved with the 40 Days for Life campaign, please remember that prayer and fasting are the foundation.

If there is no abortion facility in your town, praise God!

But wherever you are or whatever you're doing, you can pray to end abortion.

You can also pray for God's guidance for those involved in prayer vigils and pro-life action around the country. And please consider fasting. Some people are unable to fast from food for health reasons; that's understandable. Fasting simply involves renouncing an activity that can put a barrier between you and God. It could be television, the internet, chocolate, coffee, etc. You really can do without it. Take the time you usually spend in those activities and give it back to God.

To help guide your prayer, we have a 40-day series of devotionals that accompany the 40 Days for Life campaign. They are all posted for your convenience. You can still pray, even if a formal campaign is not currently being conducted. God will use your 40-day commitment to prayer in some way, in some fashion.

Specific prayer requests are also included in the 40 Days for Life e-mail updates. Please use the form on this page to receive these important messages.

Constant vigil

40 Days for Life in Flagstaff, Arizona

The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a 40-day, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community.

Those who are called to stand witness maintain a peaceful and educational presence.

This 24-hour-a-day presence send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion. It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work at the abortion center and those who patronize the facility.

If you do not have an abortion facility or Planned Parenthood office in your town, you can still conduct 40 Days for Life. However, you will need to select a different location which has some strategic significance ... perhaps near city hall, a courthouse, or a highly visible intersection.

Community outreach

40 Days for Life in Greenville, South Carolina

During 40 Days for Life, the pro-life message is proactively taken to every corner of your community. This can identify hundreds, or even thousands, of pro-life supporters.

A door-to-door petition and education drive reaches out to every household in your town or city. Informational flyers are distributed in neighborhoods to raise awareness about the local crisis of abortion. Citizens are invited to sign a petition of support for the sanctity of human life, and people are given the opportunity to visibly show their support for 40 Days for Life by wearing wristbands, placing signs in their yards, or displaying bumper stickers on their vehicles.

These people can then be encouraged to pray and join in local pro-life efforts.

Church involvement begins by meeting with local pastors, other church leaders, and members of different congregations. The Body of Christ is invited to pray together and participate in 40 Days for Life, uniting in one focused mission that can save lives and make an eternal impact.

Media outreach is conducted through carefully targeted news stories, talk shows, editorials, and letters to the editor. This enables you to get the pro-life message out to many people who would never see the inside of a local church.

If your community has a college campus, many students can be impacted through an intense 40-day campus outreach. This can consist of on-campus activities such as flyer raids, sidewalk chalking, petition drives and table displays, as permitted.

The fall 40 Days for Life begins one week from today,
and it’s going to shatter all records!

>From next Wednesday, September 28, through November 6,
40-day campaigns of prayer and fasting, constant vigil
and community outreach will be held in ...

... 301 cities ...

... all across the United States (48 states plus the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico) plus Canada,
England, Spain, Australia, Argentina and Germany.

Four dozen of these locations are launching their
FIRST-EVER 40 Days for Life campaigns.

Amazing!

And, as we all prepare to pray and fast, stand vigil
and conduct grassroots outreach together, there is
BREAKING NEWS that shows — with God’s abundant grace
and blessings — what could happen in YOUR community.

Since the last 40 Days for Life campaign ended, two
more abortion centers where 40 Days for Life vigils
have been conducted have shut their doors and CLOSED!

In PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, volunteers arriving to pray at
the abortion center found a sheriff’s notice on the
front door of the facility. Legal proceedings had
begun against the abortion business, and a judge
ordered the center CLOSED.

In FOREST GROVE, OREGON, the local 40 Days for Life
team confirmed that the owner of the abortion center
had CLOSED this facility — and one of his other
locations as well. Volunteers told me the signs are
down, the building is empty — and a phone call
confirmed the permanent closure.

This makes SIXTEEN abortion centers where 40 Days
for Life vigils have occurred that have SHUT DOWN.

To God be the glory!

If you’ve not taken part in 40 Days for Life before,
I hope this shows you what can happen when you put
your trust in God and step forward in faith.

Find the 40 Days for Life campaign nearest you — and
learn how you can help make a lifesaving difference in
your own community — by going to:

http://40daysforlife.com/location.cfm

Look for your nearest location, click on that city name,
and then sign up to help however you can.

-——, I’m excited! And I’d like to invite you
to join us on this journey — and look forward to what
God has in store!

Expecting great things,

Shawn Carney

I’m in!

Our Pittsburgh flyer for the 40 Days campaign had a picture of my 4 year old praying in front of Pittsburgh’s Planned Parenthood. My dumb butt threw it away by accident! I hope I can find another one because I want to show my 86 year old great grandma who STILL makes it to the March for Life every January.

Anyway, we will be part of the campaign & I’ll let you know when we have a baby saved. We had 6 during the spring campaign.

Pray to end abortion.

Whoops. That should read my “grandma”. Not great grandma. She’s my daughter’s great grandma. We are all making a pilgrimage to Stockbridge next week for St Faustina’s feast day. 4 generations of us! I’m excited!

Day of Preparation - September 27

Intention:

For God's blessing upon all participating in the fall 2011 40 Days for Life campaign.

Scripture:

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.

-- 2 Chronicles 7:14

Reflection:

Not unlike God's chosen people of Israel, we must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, if we expect God to hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. The need for repentance has not been greater since the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade in 1973. The number one cause of death in America is the needless sacrifice of our children at the altar of convenience called abortion. Conservative estimates put the number of deaths at nearly 48 million.

And lest we think this is an issue outside the church walls, 43 percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 27 percent identify themselves as Catholic. One in four women has at least one abortion by the age of 45 -- both non-Christian and Christian alike. Where was the voice of Truth -- the church?

Mary Comm of In Our Midst Ministries, Inc. sums up the issue best as she writes, "We (the church) have been an unintentional accomplice to the millions of lives lost and to the multiplied millions of lives devastated by abortion. We didn't want them to abort. We didn't mean for them to abort. But, because of our lack of knowledge, because of our fear, we have continued to stand by and do nothing. We, God's hands and feet in this dark and hurting world, have been unintentional, unknowledgeable accomplice, but an accomplice nonetheless."

May today mark the beginning of change within the church, as God's people, in unity, seek His forgiveness.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we have turned our backs on you and your principles in your Word. We have allowed man to usurp Your role as God over life and the number of our days. But we come to you in brokenness and repentance over our sin. We cry out for Your mercy and ask you to remove the scourge of abortion from our land. Use us as your vessels, Lord, to bring the light of Your Truth to our nation once again. Because of Christ we pray, amen.

On the eve of the largest 40 Days for Life campaign
ever, I cannot wait to see what God has in store over
these next 40 days!

After speaking at the 40 Days for Life kickoff event
in Germantown, Maryland on Sunday night, I will be
heading out to meet our national director, David Bereit,
in Montana for a kickoff event there later this week.

The excitement has NEVER been higher going into a
campaign!

This fall’s campaign is BIG. Let’s just look at the
numbers:

* 301 locations taking part from September 28
to November 6
* hundreds and hundreds of church congregations
joining the campaign
* 48 NEW locations including Argentina, Puerto
Rico and Germany
* tens of thousands of people who will take part ...
and maybe more!

While those numbers are exciting, I really want to focus
on a small number — ONE ...

... and the one is ... YOU!

40 Days for Life makes a deep impression on each person
who takes part in the prayer, fasting and vigil.

That message comes through loud and clear in an article
Jennifer Fulwiler wrote recently for the National
Catholic Register online.

In her story, “What I Learned from Praying in Front of
an Abortion Clinic,” she wrote, “it ended up being a
powerful, eye-opening experience.”

Among other things, Jennifer noted that spiritual
warfare is real. “But I’ve rarely experienced it as
intensely as when I’ve been at a prayer vigil in front
of an abortion clinic.

“It’s not just the intense reactions we get or the
knowledge of the terrible things that go on just a few
yards away, but there’s an eerie, unmistakable feeling
in the air. You get the sense that you’re truly on the
front lines of the war between good and evil.”

That’s a sobering thought. But it’s one to keep in mind
today as we prepare ourselves for what lies ahead.

I know I often go back to those wonderful numbers —
4,313 lives saved from abortion, 53 clinic workers who’ve
left the abortion industry, and 16 abortion centers that
have gone out of business after 40 Days for Life’s
peaceful prayer vigils were held in the public
right-of-way outside their doors.

But the important thing is what those numbers represent.
They represent God’s love and mercy — and the simple
fact that PRAYER WORKS.

Or as Jennifer put it in her article, “There is hardly
a better example of the power of prayer than the 40 Days
for Life campaign.”

She added, “I count the time I’ve spent as a 40 Days
for Life prayer warrior as one of the most important
things I’ve done recently — maybe ever.”

You may read Jennifer Fulwiler’s entire article at:
http://tinyurl.com/446x7ku

These next 40 days will be intense. So please take
some time today to listen for God’s still, small voice
— as we prepare to seek and follow His will in the
days ahead.

This is my personal invitation for you to get involved.
Here’s the link to all 301 locations — please find the
one nearest you and learn how you can help:

Day 1 - September 28

Intention:

That we may use these 40 Days for Life to plead for God's mercy and grace upon all those involved in the sin of abortion.

Scripture:

Blow the trumpet in Zion! Proclaim a fast, call an assembly. Gather the people, notify the congregation. Assemble the elders; gather the children and the infants at the breast… Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say, "Spare, O Lord, your people."

-- Joel 2:15-17

Reflection:

The toll of abortion cannot be measured. We hear estimates of almost 50 million innocent victims, but that's only one aspect of the harm that has unfolded in abortion's wake. There are also the mothers and fathers of these millions, as well as the grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins. Unborn lives destroyed. Lives of the living shattered.

It's overwhelming and depressing, but even in the midst of such unfathomable darkness, the church teaches us to have hope. Yes, it was indeed Calvary that followed Christ's 40 days in the desert, but without Calvary there would have been no Resurrection - His victory over death that opened the gates of heaven to those who believe in and follow Him.

The psalmist encourages us to go humbly before God as we seek His will: "A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me… Give me back the joy of your salvation and a willing spirit sustain in me… O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise" (Psalm 51:12, 14, 17).

We are called to be God's messengers; or as the Apostle Paul told the Corinthians: "We are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: be reconciled to God" (2 Corinthians 5:20). That is the true message to all we encounter at the abortion centers and in our communities who have been deceived by the Culture of Death. We don't bring condemnation; we bring God's good news.

Prayer:

Lord, we ask for the strength, courage, wisdom, determination and stamina to carry out this mission according to Your will. Guide us, we pray, as we go forth and proclaim Your truth, always doing so with a spirit of love and compassion, as was demonstrated to us by Your Son, Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, amen.

Communications Director, 40 Days for Life

We’re off and running in Ohio! May God join His people together throughout the nation and beyond as we stand in obedience to His command to defend the unborn. And may He receive all the glory for every life spared or changed. Blessed is the Name of the Lord!

It’s just the first day of the 40 Days for Life
campaign ... and I’ve already got great news to share!
Let’s get right to it.

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI

The 40 Days for Life team in Columbia holds its vigils
outside a Planned Parenthood center that is the only
abortion location between St. Louis and Kansas City.

Last Thursday — less than a week before the start of
the campaign — the abortionist quit!

This is not the first time this has happened. Planned
Parenthood in Columbia has gone through six different
abortionists during the past two and a half years —
and this facility has gone months at a time with NO
ABORTIONS — including times DURING 40 Days for Life
campaigns.

“Praise the Lord!” said Kathy in Columbia. “We know
that God will do many miracles these 40 days!”

Planned Parenthood is referring women to its facility
in St. Louis, so the prayers will continue in Columbia
— and in St. Louis as well.

To see a photo of the vigil in Columbia, please go to:

http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=2246

ROSARIO, ARGENTINA

Rosario is one of two cities in Argentina taking part
in 40 Days for Life for the first time. “We have
worked hard in order to adapt it to our culture,”
said Gabriela in Rosario, “maintaining at the same
time the core elements.”

Argentineans are enthusiastic about praying and
fasting for an end to abortion, she said, “and I
think this will be THE key element of our first-time
campaign.”

For now, Gabriela said, the goal is to get the word
out. “And God is certainly helping us to achieve
this goal!”

SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA

Yesterday, I mentioned 301 locations for this campaign
— and the importance of another number ... ONE.

Right after I wrote that message, I got a campaign
update from Mary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The
subject of her 40 Days for Life e-mail? “The power
of one.”

“David, when he went up against the giant Goliath,
was one of the least likely ones to stand a chance,”
Mary wrote. “But he had faith in God! He had five
smooth stones. And with God, it only took him ONE!”

The Sioux Falls update closes with an invitation,
which I now extend to YOU!

Do you want to make a difference to end abortion over
these next 40 days? Then ACT!

Join the vigil closest to you or call just one person
and ask them if they will join you during 40 Days for
Life. Invite others to get our e-mail updates by
signing up at:

http://40daysforlife.com/

... and please share this e-mail with your friends
and family.
