The War Against Christianity in America
New American ^ | 10-03-11 | SAM BLUMENFELD

Posted on 10/03/2011 10:29:41 PM PDT by ReformationFan

The origin of the war against Christianity in the United States can be traced back to the early days of the public school movement when Unitarians, Owenite socialists and atheists, and Hegelian pantheists vehemently rejected the God-centered worldview of the Founding Fathers and sought to secularize education and substitute salvation through scientific education than by salvation through Christ .

However, it wasn’t until the turn of the last century and the rise of the progressive education movement that the war in America took on the militancy which characterizes it today. The progressives were, for the most part, members of the Protestant academic elite who no longer believed in the religion of their fathers and transferred their faith to science, evolution, and psychology.

The scientific method provided the means to acquire unlimited knowledge of the material world, evolution explained the origin of life and man, and psychology provided the scientific means of studying man’s nature and controlling his behavior. There was no need for supernatural religion in the progressive scheme of things.

Early in the 20th century, the progressives embarked on a messianic mission to change America from a capitalist, individualistic, and believing society into a socialist, collectivist, atheist or humanist society. They were motivated by the need not only to prove the nonexistence and/or irrelevance of God, but to deal with the age-old problem of evil: what caused it and how it could be eliminated.

According to the Bible, evil behavior in man is the result of his sinful nature. Man’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden resulted in his fall from grace, his loss of immortality, and his coming under the influence of Satan. The New Testament teaches us that only by obedience to God’s law and salvation through Christ can man save himself from the horrible consequences of

Excellent article. Must read.

THE SOURCE AND ORIGIN of our nation’s problems.

And until we can deal with the source of the brainwashing of our youth - the education system controlled by Marxist/atheists - all we do is only putting a band-aid on our problems.

The source of the education system is actually higher education, where all the “lower education” teachers are taught and brainwashed themselves......

I have yet to see/hear ANY CONSERVATIVE address this and provide a solution........EVER!

I realize it may be a silly point but I do not beleive it is a war against Christianity it is a war against Christ Himself. We knew or should have known it was going to happen, I think the surprise is that it is happening in our lifetime. We must be strong and fight the good fight. We are the Lord’s warriors.

It isn’t that cut and dried. Christians have played into the hands of their enemies.

The “Great Revival” and temperence movements of the 1880’s provided necessary support from the right for government control. Ever since, the government has had this schizophrenic propensity to regulate drugs and business in innocent enterprises, to put God in the Pledge of Allegiance and take him out of school, to raise the age of consent in steps from 10 or 12 to 18 and make exhibition of adult sex, sometimes even to children, affecting their behavior, a civil right.

The government must be divested of its authority to regulate from the left or right in order for Christianity and freedom (which sometimes will be decidedly unchristian) to flourish according to the individual and the family, even if you, or even an overwhelming majority at some point in time, don’t like some people’s choices for themselves.

If you think you can have a democratic governnent that only enforces and promotes your point of view forever, then you are unclear on the definition of democracy.

Unfortunately, the Bible and Christians preach freedom of conscience but then a Constantine comes along and Christians themselves become the persecutors.

I’m not down on Christians. I am a Christian. I am simply saying that the enforcement of Christian orthodoxy opens the door to progressives and other enemies of true Chritianity in an unholy alliance necessary to create the conditiions for government control in which each gets part of what they want in a bad mixture.

Oh, the solution is simple and I am a Conservative.

Government Education = Government Propaganda

Those Who Can’t Do Teach.
(And they teach to overthrow the system they blame for their failure.)

Government should be OUT of the education business and those who teach (or at least administer) should be those who have done or are doing.

And those who can't teach, administrate or become school guidance counselors.

You said: We knew or should have known it was going to happen, I think the surprise is that it is happening in our lifetime.

I think that is characteristic of prophecy. We're told, we don't really understand, then when it is fulfilled we begin to think that it should have been obvious.

I think that when the Lord returns that will be the case.

I think that if we are in the end-times we're just now becoming suspicious that we will be surprised.

Anyway that was a good point.

How ironic, a war against Christ from those who don’t believe in Him. But the spirit behind it all knows that Jesus is Lord (and trembles).

Something I found out, oddly enough, when I was browsing through Thomas Nast artwork. It seems that he was a big advocate of public funding and control of education back in at that time, but the Catholic Church was dead set against the government run education system. They warned that any government run education system would develop into a secular and humanist system of anti-Christian education sooner or later. At the same time, the majority of non-Catholic Christians were all in favor of the state taking control of and funding all education. They didn't even want an exception that would allow any school run by a Church to be certified to grant a HS Diploma!!

It's interesting to look at the history of various debates that raged in society and how the various pundits at the time thought things would work. In this case, at least, the Catholic Church was completely correct, our education system has become exactly what they predicted it would become.

It was really a no-brainer.

Government has no business doing anything but protecting us from other countries and each other.

The Protestant arguments were fraudulent because their whole purpose was anti-Catholic, anti-Jew etc. and seeking to impose a Protestant religious view on everyone through government. Most people were and are bigots of one sort or another looking to use government to indulge them, something not possible before about the 1850s.

Everybody wants to be Constantine. Government MUST be made too small for it. Bigots must not be able to use the state.

"The Protestant arguments were fraudulent because their whole purpose was anti-Catholic, anti-Jew etc. and seeking to impose a Protestant religious view on everyone through government."

Those leading the charge sure held that point of view even if average folks were fooled by the propaganda about how much better society would be as a result. Well, fooled a bit and anxious to have a "free" education for their kids. There's always some sort of payoff to hook the average folks, right? Like being shed of the responsibility of taking care of your elderly parents or Home Equity loans to keep everyone using the loaded dice at the craps tables for as long as possible.

These days, Protestant folk are either just Secular Humanists with a tinge of a guilty conscience or social isolationists convinced they'll be extracted from the battle zone before the real fighting starts. Catholics, of course, are so busy trying to recover from those who really wanted to be Protestant savaging the Church since the sixties that their hands are full with internal battles.

One thing for sure, it's good tactical timing on the part of the fascists now running the country.

Of course you are correct. I think you misread my point, and that’s ok as I kept it brief and that left it open for misinterpretation. No way I’d want an enforced Christian view and never suggested that.

Actually, the real origin/source of the problem is.....Christians! The church has failed to be ‘salt & light’ to the world, looks just like the world, thinks/acts just like the world. The vast majority of Christians believe in their heads, but their lives don’t support their beliefs. It is this contradiction that has allowed the Marxist/atheist world view to take over.

I didn’t want to get into that in my post as that opens a whole different subject....

That doesn’t deal with the control of where all teachers are brainwashed themselves...higher education. You haven’t gotten to the source of the problem. Even if we do away with the NEA, Dept. of Education, you still have teachers being brainwashed getting their degrees.

And John Dewey was the guy to lead the charge (in the public schools/education).

Which website / book / exhibit of Nast were you browsing through?

I recently learned that a big Andrew Carnegie foundation decided to fund pensions for many Protestant college and university professors, on condition that their schools adopt a "non-sectarian" policy.

And that is why a majority of Americans are returning to the religious beliefs of the Founding Fathers

Once again, I fail to understand the religious authority of the founders of the United States. Saudi Arabia was founded by moslems. Does that make islam the "true religion" for Saudi Arabia?

Instead of looking to the founders (or any other human beings) for their religion, Americans--and all people--should look to G-d.

Actually, the surprise should have been the founding of this country.

The whole world system is anti-Christ. This mentality that we’re in that what we see in the United States is the norm is what’s whacked out.

We should NOT have been surprised to see this happening but we, as believers, should have seen it coming.
