Virgin Mary appears outside a Sanger liquor store?
ABC 30 ^ | October 01, 2011

SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A holy sighting at a liquor shop? Some people say they have seen the image of the Virgin Mary appear outside Johnny Liquor store in Sanger. Those believers claim to see the outline of the Virgin on the side of the store but some say the image is nocturnal.

"Word is they see the image of the Virgin Mary, however only at night," said Santiago Aguilar in a video he posted on YouTube. Santiago took nighttime video of the wall where you can see what appears to be an oval shape reflection coming from the light post. But is it an image of the Virgin Mary?

"I didn't seem to see anything just about a bright, shining light. It could have been from the camera or the light that's just above the wall," said Melissa of Sanger.

But Catholics we showed the video to say the so-called "appearance" is somewhat miraculous. "She's trying to tell us something, she's trying to tell us 'believe in me' because something is coming," said Mona Sanchez.

"The part that I thought I saw was from her rope, that was right here, and the rest turned into like black," said Gloria Perez-Gomez.

And the Valley is no Stranger to holy apparitions. In 2005, dozens of people flocked to Merced to witness what many say was the image of the Virgin Mary on the side of a tree. And although this "appearance" hasn't received that much attention, it has received coverage in the town newspaper.

"I don't think it's anything, but I don't know. People tell us, so many, I believe it maybe later," said Bob Randhawa, the liquor store owner.

Randhawa has no idea why the Virgin Mary would appear on the side of his store but he's not complaining

Just for the record, sometimes you can also spot the Virgin Mary inside a liquor store:

I think I read somewhere, can’t remember where, that an apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared on a Sauerkraut Perogie. Well, they couldn’t EAT it, obviously, so they placed in on a plate and just watched it. The sauerkraut went bad, so they needed to get rid of the perogie. They couldn’t just throw it in the garbage, so they decided to bury it outside. After a few days, they went and dug it up, to see if the apparition was still there. It was gone! The whole perogie was GONE. They don’t know if it was an Assumption or a Consumption by animals that was the cause of the empty hole. They lit candles, just to be safe...

Well I have heard of burying statues of St. Joseph, upside down, in the front yard of your house in order to sell the house quickly, but perogies? Not so sure. :-))

Hey, I’m pretty sure I saw an apparition of Bartholomew on a Frosted Flake, but you don’t see ME running to a reporter, taking pictures of it, or placing it in a glass box to show to just anybody...

The Church has been very clear that this practice is superstition:

CCC 2111 - Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.

Yeah? That's nothing... You don't even want to know what I've been seeing outside the Psilocyben Store!

..but loading up and going to Lourdes to be “healed” because a “vision” of the Virgin “appeared” there isn’t considered superstitution?

Maybe... I had read somewhere on the internet that it was a strong hallucinogenic mushroom. But I never took any. And, if I did, I didn't inhale.

I never saw the corners of the room breathing, or the wall turn into a mirror and dribble like mercury all over the floor under the pterodactyls, either...

Gotta love that last line - "just to be safe...."

These appearances (called apparitions) have occurred with increasing frequency since the nineteenth century, and have attracted widespread attention. Pope Pius XII, in calling attention to the apparitions, referred to the nineteenth century as the "century of Marian predilection [i.e., preference]." And the present century cannot be far behind: one leading Marian scholar notes that there have been more than 200 reported apparitions since the 1930s alone.[2] With the various shrines dedicated to the particular apparitions attracting millions of pilgrims each year, it is easy to see that this phenomenon is having a substantial impact on the almost one-billion-member Roman Catholic church.
