The burden against Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap. (Isaiah 17::1)
Like much of the Arab world, Syria is a nation in agony. The passions incited by the Arab Spring have been inflamed in Syria, as they have in the rest of the middle east. No one can fault the people of the region for longing to throw off the suffocating tyrannies that have held absolute rule over them for so long.
Through a ruthless willingness to crush all dissent, the late Hafez Assad and his son Bashir, have made of Syria a terrifying police state .The Assads are Alawite Muslims, ruling over the majority Sunni nation.
There have been uprisings before against the Assad regime, but always repressed without mercy. For six years starting in 1976, Muslim brotherhood- backed Sunni rebels resisted the Assad regime in a low level conflict. But in February 1982, the Syrian army was called out in full force, launching an attack on the town of Hama where the resistance originated. The ensuing massacre resulted in the slaughter of 35,000 to 40,000 Syrians!
Syrias current violent repression of its own people, has been severely censured by her near neighbors, and by the wider world community. Because of the refugee crisis created by the Assads brutal crackdown on its own people, Turkey has threatened to intervene, and is currently holding military exercises all along the border with Syria as a saber-rattling exercise.
Assad of Syria and his advisers, know full well what the Europeans through NATO did to the Gaddafi regime of Libya, and is determined not to allow that to happen to his own.
Syrias current cornered animal foreign policy is much like another Arab despot, the late Saddam Hussein. It consists of drawing out the hate Israel card in the face of international sanctions and threats, hoping to rally the sympathies of her Israel hating neighbors. Assads response to the west/Nato is to threaten to obliterate Tel Aviv!
Irans semi-official FARS news agency reported on Tuesday that Syrian President Bashar Assad issued a dark warning to western countries during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmad Davutoglu, saying that if his regime comes under attack from NATO the way his colleague, ousted Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi did, he will fire missiles at Tel Aviv. If a crazy measure is taken against Damascus, I will need not more than 6 hours to transfer hundreds of rockets and missiles to the Golan Heights to fire them at Tel Aviv, Assad reportedly said. He added that he would demand of the Lebanese Shiite terror militia Hezbollah that they join in the attack. All these events will happen in three hours, and in the following three hours, Iran will attack the US warships in the Persian Gulf and the US and European interests will be targeted simultaneously, he concluded. Assad Threatens Tel Aviv
Israel has indicated that it will respond to an attack, with full force, threatening to bomb Gaza, Syrian and Hezbollah controlled Lebanon, and Damascus itself! This from a Lebanese source, Naharnet; Israel has warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that should Tel Aviv be attacked, then it will retaliate by bombing the Gaza Strip and the whole of Lebanon. Israels NFC website reported that the Jewish states government relayed this message to the Syrian president through European intelligence circles.
These sources said that seeing as Tel Aviv is Israels economic and financial hub, a retaliation for an attack against it, by Hizbullah, Hamas, or Syria, will not be limited to Syria, but all of Lebanon and Gaza.
NFC reported Israeli military circles as saying that the Jewish states message to Assad is clear in that Damascus fate, should it be targeted, will not be different than Lebanons.
Syria has long been the bitter, implacable enemy of Israel. In spite of overwhelming odds, Syria, along with Egypt, Jordan,Iraq and the rest of the Arab world, have been defeated by Israel in more several wars. Under the Assads, Syria has undermined and destabilized Lebanon, virtually turning it into a client state, assasinating popular leaders and installing The Rest of the article: Syrian backed puppets. Southern Lebanon has been turned into a stronghold for the terror group Hezbollah through which the Assad regime has been fighting a proxy war against Israel .
We dont know when exactly, but the spark that will finally lead to Armageddon, involves what happens to Syria, and Damascus in particular. The oldest continually inhabited city in the world will cease from being a city, many of the surrounding cities of Syria will have to be abandoned, and the world will go into an absolute anti-Israel frenzy.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people Who make a noise like the roar of the seas, And to the rushing of nations That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! 13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters; But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. 14 Then behold, at eventide, trouble! And before the morning, he is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, And the lot of those who rob us.(Isaiah 17:12-14) )
Things are heating up, prophecy is being fulfilled. People say,They have always been saying that, what makes this time different? , True they have always said that Jesus was coming back, but only in our life time, have the prophecies been capable of fulfillment, for they all pre-suppose an entity, a nation of Israel, which was deconstituted almost two thousand years ago, but since 1948 has been resurrected!Jesus is coming soon! Make sure you are ready to meet the Lord. If you should die, would you go to heaven?
Are you ready? Why should a Holy God let you into His Holy Heaven? The only acceptable reason why sinners like you and I should be allowed into the Holy Heaven of God, is because Christ died for sinners, once and for all, the just for the unjust to bring us to God- do you believe that? ave you confessed Jesus as Lord?
the true “Israel” of God are all those believers in Jesus Christ ( whether they be Jew or Gentile ) corporate Israel was cursed by Jesus, and it will never bear fruit again.
Jesus rules today as King, not in some future 1,000 year period.
Do you see this as conveying a more accurate sense of the meaning of the text in comparison to more mainstream efforts?
New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree
18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, May you never bear fruit again! Immediately the tree withered.
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. How did the fig tree wither so quickly? they asked.
21 Jesus replied, Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
If this is the verse you are refering to to base your assertion on, you are way off target. You also ignore scores of Old Testament prophecies regarding the status of Israel when Messiah shall rule on the Earth, presumably during the millenial reign as mentioned in Revelation.
yes, Jesus cursed the fig tree and it will never bear fruit again. Paul tells us who the true Israel of God is and he also tells us who the true Jew is. ( actually the Holy Spirit tells us thru Paul’s writings )
the problem people have in reading the OT, they see “Israel” mentioned and they immediately think of Jewish DNA. it’s as if Paul and historic Christianity never happened. once someone realized who “Israel” is in the Scriptures, the scales are removed.
Abraham continues to bear fruit and by the spirit of adoption has inherited Christian gentiles as well a few Christian Jews. There will be more Jews joining us as foretold by Paul in Hebrews, they’ll be “grafted back in”. Israel will stand until the final judgment and perhaps beyond in the form of the redeemed. Israel is God’s anvil upon which he’ll beat the spirituality of Humanity into the image of his son Jesus Christ!
when Paul says “all Israel will be saved”, is he speaking of the Body of Christ, the Church or is he speaking of every person with Jewish DNA?
Paul says the blindness will be lifted off the Jews and they’ll be “grafted back in”. Revelation says Christ will rule out of a new Jerusalem centered in the Middle east in a region 1500 miles in all directions. Israel, yes consists of her spirit filled people first, but let’s not over spiritualize and symbolize graphically prophesied, black and white text.
Christ, cursed the fig tree to give an object lesson about faith that can move mountains, there was nothing in that story’s context where he condemns Israel to further fruitlessness. Had that been so, then Christ should not have died for our sins and resurrected! Indeed, is not Christ the “shoot of Jesse” and are we not of the fruits of that vine or at least, have we not been grafted in?
Israel abides forever!
END TIMES PING LIST PING . . . ISAIAH 17 . . .
Paul, in speaking of a spiritual Israel never in his writings implied that a physical Israel would again be incorporated as its own entity. Modern replacement theology has asserted that, putting words in Paul’s mouth. Revelation graphically asserts that Christ will rule out of Jerusalem, albeit in a heavenly constructed city. The OT in many places speaks of the restored status of the Hebrews during the millenial time when Messiah rules on the Earth, how people, including the gentiles, will seek individual Jews(this may include Christian gentiles, via the spirit of adoption) out for teaching and wisdom. The nations of the Earth will be FORCED yearly to send delegations to Israel to give honor to God, if they did not do so, their nations would have no rain.
A physically restored Israel has a place in the Earth’s future, just as each individual redeemed of Christ(from before the rapture) will have a place in the ruling of the world at this time.
So, Elenin didn’t pan out? Or is that still in play?
Looks like a couple of replacement theology types who dont take God at His word. Dont guess theres much we can do for them.
Actually it was the Holman version, and I used by accident(although I have no problem with it)- I meant to use the KJV-
VERY SAD, THAT.
I don’t know what you are talking about- Scripture is my guide-
Thanks for the ping!
Lies upon Lies upon Lies, Blasphemy against YHVH, when will it end.
Jesus rules today as King
Last I checked, Yah’shua the prophesied King is not sitting on the Throne in the temple in Jerusalem. When the time comes, we will see our King crowned. Until then, prepare for the tribulation because none will be free from it for it is through tribulation that the tares will be exposed and plucked from amongst the wheat.
It is because it didn't happen but in the imaginations of sheeple following lies (Jer 16:19 ~ our ancestors inherited nothing but lies)
Acts Ch 7:
[NKJV]: 5 These men, going ahead, waited for us at Troas. 6 But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days. 7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight
the word “day” is italicized meaning that that word is NOT in the original scroll, but was added. Now read it as it more properly translated.
5 These men went on and waited for us in Troas, 6 while we sailed from Philippi after the Days of Matzah. Five days later, we met them in Troas, where we spent a week. 7 On Motza’ei-Shabbat, when we were gathered to break bread, Sha’ul addressed them. Since he was going to leave the next day, he kept talking until midnight.
Motza’ei-Shabbat means going out of the Sabbath, Saturday night after Sabbath services ended.
In Greek the word for first is Strongs G3391 = mia = mee’-ah which means “first of” and since we know it is after the days of unleavened bread, we know that this is during the counting of the Omer.
The Greek word for week used is Strongs G4521 = sabbaton = sab-bat-on which when taken in context means "the weeks of the Sabbaths"; the 7 Sabbaths of the Omer, 49 days starting at First Fruits & when the spring barley harvest begins and then is completed at the next High Sabbath which is Shavuot/Pentecost.
Breaking bread is a Hebrew idiom for a meal, any meal, any day, any hour. It has nothing to do with what we know as communion. In Hebrew, the custom we know as communion is called Passover in Hebrew and is but once a year. Also, in the 1st century they did not use names for the days of the week. How they counted days was “the 1st day after Sabbath, the 2nd after, etc, etc” or “the 6th day before Sabbath, 5th day before, 4th day before, etc, etc”. Everything was centered around the Sabbath and it was not abolished or changed as we can clearly see that after the Messiah had risen, they were all still keeping the Sabbath & teaching in the synagogues as there were no churches as we know them to be. And really, what pagan cleric is going to let a Jewish Rabbi come in to speak & convert their followers. It just did not happen.
Gentile means one that is not of the Covenant, not of the Promise. You might want to do a bit of studying.
I guarantee the sought out will not include gentiles and it will not include those who do not keep the Sabbath or YHVH Appointed Holy days as YHVH commanded.
In the 1st century there were 2 things that did not exist. The christian church as we know it today that was established under Constantine & the New Testament. When the NT talks about the Gospels & the Scriptures they are talking about the only Gospels(5 Books of Moses/Torah/Law), the Prophets & the Writings that they had which also was the only dictionary they had. So everything, every jott, every tittle, every word in the NT must be defined using the Old Testament which is called the Tenakh and there has always exited a copy of it in Hebrew. There also does not exist one verse in the NT wherein the writers say they worship on Sunday. But because words were added by the RCC (who canonized the Scriptures) that do not exist in the original scrolls, thus by heresy they were able to falsely claim the Scriptures changed the Sabbath from the 7th day to the 1st day.
Elenin didnt pan out?
I guess not.
Something else will turn up.
“Gentile means one that is not of the Covenant, not of the Promise”
No kidding, really?
‘After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen down. I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up, so that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord who does all these things. (Amos 9:11,12)
Now you do a little studying, oh wise one who “chokes on gnats and swallows camels”!
“Christian gentiles, via the spirit of adoption”
Perhaps I should made the wording clearer such as, those” of the gentiles, called by His name who have become children of Abraham by the spirit of Adoption”
As for the Sabbath, though Christ shall rule the Earth with a rod of Iron at that time, was it not Christ himself that said the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath? The 7th day was when the Lord rested from his creative labors, is not our Christ the Lord of the Sabbath?
Indeed, the true Israel of God will be with God for eternity. but i can assure, Israel is not comprised of people who reject Jesus and His sacrificial death and who share a certain DNA.
btw - Jesus is a King today and He rules His kingdom today.
I’m becoming about “dark threats” from the middle east like K was in MIB, “There’s always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!”
I just live for Jesus, in the center of His will as best this flawed human can, and trust in Him. His will is perfect and will be done. Even if I wanted to change that, I could not. So I trust Him and wait (anxiously) for Christ’s return.
I’m sure it’s a typo but I’ll fix it anyway.
Jesus is “a” King should be Jesus IS KING. King of kings, n fact. And He rules yesterday, forever and always.
i’m not sure what “modern replacement theology” is, i know historic Christianity has always taught the true Israel are descendents of Abraham by faith, not DNA.
Jesus is ruling today from spiritual Jerusalem, He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.Believers have been taken out of the kingdom of darkness into His Kingdom.
all kinds of false teaching begins with thinking Israel is comprised of physical Jews rather than spiritual believers in Christ.
last time i checked, Jesus is sitting on the throne in Jerusalem. those with spiritual eyes given to them by the Holy Spirit can see this, those still blinded by spiritual darkness can’t.
may i suggest everyone read what Peter said in Acts 2:14-36.
i’m speechless.......if one is still keeping the 7th day Sabbath, they reject Jesus and the true rest His grace brings. very sad.
there are those that reject Jesus and His Church and teach we are still to keep the Sabbath and OT festivals. the problem is the Apostles and the Gospel they preached rejects this false teaching. The Church has been here since 33ad and Constatine had nothing to do with it. The Church was not keeping the Sabbath while Rome was persecuting Christians and it didn’t keep the Sabbath after Constantine stopped persecuting the Christians. maybe some would benefit from reading more of the early Church Fathers and less Dan Brown. ( and less of Ellen White )
Study what happens after the millenial reign, when Satan is loosed”for a season”. Even after Christ has ruled for 1000 years upon the Earth multitudes will still rise up against Christ and the Holy city and against his saints. 10 centuries of blessings and teachings but many will still harbor hardened hearts at the end of that time.
Now I get the difference between a “spiritual Israel”, that includes all of the redeemed of Christ, living and dead, from every tribe and tongue from Adam all the way up to some present day little girl who goes up to the altar at some “Salt and Light” community church because she wants to be saved and know Jesus, and physical Israel. The Bible talks about both existing in present as well as future times, with Christ the King ruling bodily on this Earth from Jerusalem, centered in present day Israel.
see my post #31.
congratulations on knowing Jesus is King, many teach He is not.
I agree. The fig tree is a fig tree, not Israel. Israel is elect by covenant and will see heaven.
Satan was bound at the cross. Jesus said the strong man must first be bound and then his house may be plundered. since Satan has been bound, the Church by the power of the Holy Spirit has been plundering his house for 2,000 years.
the Scriptures do tell us right before Jesus returns and the world ends, that Satan will be loosed for a time and there will be a great falling away, evil will abound and there will be great tribulation for the believers. i believe we are in that time period today. Jesus wondered when He returned would He find Faith on the earth and we are seeing His words played out before us daily as heresy and sin multiply.
Oh ye who over symbolize and over syllogize, of course Christ has always ruled, he was with the Father at the time of creation after all, per John chapter 1. God exists in present, past, future all at once. Yet physically his feet have not yet touched “down upon the mount causing it to split north to south.” Christ is coming back to rule bodily for a thousand years. Did not the angel say to the disciples, “in like manner that you saw him go, he shall come again”?
Paul converted the Gentiles.
If a Gentile believes, he is of a covenant. There are several covenants.
Israel is also in covenant with God in some configuration.
The Fig Tree

A Symbol Deciphered - The Fig Tree
The fig tree is one of the more frequently mentioned trees in the Scriptures. It was from its leaves that Adam and Eve made their first covering (Gen. 3:7). The fig tree was valued first of all for its delicious, sweet fruit (Judges 9:11). It was also a symbol of prosperity and security: “and Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree” (1 Kings 4:25). It was an enjoyable thing to rest, meditate on Gods word, and pray in the shade of the fig tree. (John 1:48)
Figs are considered characteristic fruit for the land of Palestine. The best loved and most nutritious were the spring fruits, which ripened in May and referred to as figs in the fig tree of the first time (Hosea 9:10). The main harvesting of figs occurred in the later months of the summer and in the fall. Those figs were called late figs. They were inferior in their quality. The poorest ones were even fed to cattle.
The Fig Tree as a Symbol
Some places in the Bible indicate that the fig tree also has a symbolic meaning. One of the Lords miracles is most intriguing when his curse of the fig tree caused it to wither. This seems to have been the only miracle in which Jesus used his power to destroy, to annihilate something. It also is the only miracle which was of no benefit to anyone. All others were done for men. The Lord multiplied bread, healed diseases, raised the dead. This miracle was as if in conflict with our Masters disposition, who to the suggestion of destroying the wicked, answered back to his disciples: “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of”. (Luke 9:55). All these facts imply an exceptional character of that miracle and its symbolic meaning. But to understand this symbolism, the miracle must be considered in the light of our Lords parable of the barren fig tree.
“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him: let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it and dung it. And if it shall bear fruit, well and if not then after that thou shalt cut it down.” (Luke 13:6-9)
The parable was preceded by his words: “Except ye repent ye shall likewise perish”. The explanation of this parable was obvious to the listeners. The owner of the vineyard is the God of Israel (Isa 5:7). The dresser is the Messiah, who, three years into his mission, would, through his digging and fertilizing, make the nation bring fruit unto God. At the time of the utterance of this parable, the fate of this nation was still not decided. Our Lord still had half a year of his dressing work before him. It seems that the cursing of the fig tree is as if it is the finishing of the unfinished parable.
After his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the end of our Lords mission was fast approaching. Returning from Bethany, the Master approached the fig tree and looked for fruit in it. Having found none, he passed this sentence on the tree: “Let no fruit grow on thee henceforth for ever” (Matt. 21:19). Some interpret this event literally, as a curse on a tree which had no fruit. But such an interpretation is in conflict with a note made by the author of the Gospel of Mark, who emphasizes that “the time for figs was not yet” (Mark 11:13). Both our Lord and his disciples realized that in that season, in the early spring, no figs could ever be found on a fig tree. The lesson was manifest: his seeking the fruit had a symbolic meaning, it was a living parable, so often used by the prophets. Jesus wanted to finish the story of the barren fig tree which he had told earlier. After three and a half years of the dressing work was complete, he wanted to show that the antitypical fig tree brought no fruit. The fate of the tree was decided. On the next day it withered.
The fig tree was used as a picture of Israel not without a cause. As early as in the Old Testament, figs were identified with the nation of Israel by the prophets. Hosea wrote: I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness, I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree in her first time” (Hosea 9:10). Jeremiah received the vision of two baskets of figs, which represented Israel: “Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah” (Jer. 24:5).
How soon was Christs prophecy fulfilled about the withering of the symbolic fig tree to be fulfilled?. In the year 70 A.D. the temple was destroyed. No longer was there a place to offer sacrifices, the opportunity to serve the Lord according to the precepts of the Law thus ended. Jerusalem fell into ruin, and the whole nation was expelled from their own land and dispersed throughout the world. Speaking about the time of his Kingdom approaching, Christ again turns his disciples attention to the fig tree. “Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth his leaves, ye know that summer is nigh. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door”. (Matt. 24:32, 33)
It should be observed that this parable was uttered on the same day when the barren fig tree was cursed. Therefore it would be difficult to assume that when Christ told them to watch for signs taking place on that very kind of a tree, it was merely accidental. These two events constitute one whole. As a result of the rejection of the Messiah on the part of the Jews, during his first advent, Gods favor was turned away from them, as shown in the withered tree. Whereas, the softening of the branches and the bringing forth of leaves represents the return of favor to this nation during the time of the establishment of the Kingdom in Christs second advent. Let us, then, carefully observe this symbolic fig tree.
Not buying what you are selling.
At most, the fig tree is a person, an individual who fails to produce good spiritual fruit.
You are falsely accusing God’s original chosen people of false teaching. It’s not falsehood, it’s remaining under the law due to rejecting their Messiah. They will get their prophesied earthly king ruling with a rod of iron, but that Messiah will be the same as the one who was rejected.
Understand that, and understand prophecy. By interpreting prophecy in a manner that solely benefits the former state religion of Imperial Rome, it is you who teaches falsely.
the 1,000 years is symbolic of the time between His Ascension and return. His Kingdom is not of this world.
You ignore Revelation that says Satan shall be bound a thousand years then “loosed for a season”. The Christian can appropriate power from the Holy Spirit to bind the power of Satan over his own life and receive grace for the “little messengers” or “thorns” that God chooses not to remove right away but in the whole of the New Testament, there is never an assertion that Satan has yet been bound in the sense that you mean it. Yes, his house is being “plundered” but we “still wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of the air.” Satan is still the “god of this world”.
Revelation says Satan will be bound for a thousand years and will no longer be able to deceive the nations into disobediance during that time. The great “falling away” occurs before the rise of the “son of perdition” and his “beast” system. Yet Revelation speaks of a second “falling away” and revolt against God after a thousand years of Christ’s reign, when Satan is set loose for a time to deceive the nations again. The writings are graphically black and white as to what happens, not to be over symbollized, syllogized, or to be taken in a hyper-stylized spiritual manner.
Since there has never been 1000 years of enforced world peace and Godly living via “the Rod of Iron”, in humanity’s history EVER; I suggest you take a fresh look at your eschatology with those factors in mind. The FINAL JUDGMENT comes after that 1000 years plus that “little season” of revolt!
“the former state religion of Imperial Rome”
care to elborate?
the problem people have is not understanding the OT contains types and shadows pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ. when Jesus became man and came to earth, the types and shadows were done away with. corporate Israel as a type was done away with, the Body of Christ, the Church is the reality. it is the true Israel of God and is comprised of Jews and Gentiles who are baptized into Christ and are reconciled to the Father by the sacrificial death of Jesus.
these are the people who are ruled by King Jesus and call Him Lord.
the problems are many, but the biggest one seems to be some believing “1,000 years” is a literal 1,000 years.
i often wonder if people really believe what they write, it would be scary if they did. the education system and it’s lack of teaching history will be our downfall.
2 Tim. 2:15.
