The sin is cleansed by forgiveness on God’s part, not suffering or works on my part.

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom. 8:35-39).

There is NOTHING that can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ. The question that must be asked is "what does 'in Christ' mean? Because once you're there, you are there to stay. Your life cannot separate you, your death cannot separate you. "Purgatory" cannot separate you. Things to come cannot separate you. That would include sins to come. Present things cannot separate you. NOTHING can separate you. IF you are IN CHRIST.

If you are NOT IN CHRIST, NOTHING can join you to the love of God.

It's all about Christ, Natural Law. And being IN Him. And He in you.
