Even if Latin is a dead language, it is still an official language of the church. It is the basis for many languages and the derivative of many english words.
Irrespective of the language, the Mass is much more solemn and historic. Perhaps because the public did not fully understood the words, there was a more prayerful silent awe of the Mass.
I don’t think, we will return to a Latin Mass (Tridentine) although it is still available in a few places.
I feel everyone should have an opportunity to experience it.
"Vatican II changes everything," he said exuberantly at one point in his talk. "It means the end of stable religion. We have to understand what religion is all about. Vatican II says we have to have a totally new understanding of what religion is."And part of being a Vatican II Catholic, he immediately added, is understanding "there is no geographical place called heaven. There is no geographical place called hell...
Mercifully, the bishops of both NY dioceses will reach retirement age in 2013, after 30+ years of wreckovation.
My family (wife and two boys) have been taking classes for over a month now in preparation for this change.
Like most changes, it will be difficult at first, but in time that will fade. My hope is that we all will grow stronger in our faith.
Well said, my FRiend, but I am not so hopeful.... I’ll just have to keep praying for it.
How about turning the priest around, too?
^^^
I would love to see that. But, doncha know, we’re all at the “table” with him, so we have to face him. So stupid.
Oops! I shoul know better, but I accidently used what the syStem thought was html tagging. (I wish FR had a “delete” button.)
Now if we could just get altar rails back and eliminate Communion in the hand. we’d be getting somewhere! &&& <> I know. Very disappointed about the “Sign of Peace”.
SHOULD HAVE BEEN
Now if we could just get altar rails back and eliminate Communion in the hand. we’d be getting somewhere!
{{sigh}}...I know.
Very disappointed about the “Sign of Peace”, too.
You can get the new wording on the web and print it off. Look under Roman Missal. I don’t have the link any more, but it is there.
Are they eliminating the Sign of Peace?
I’ve looked, but it’s been a few weeks. USCCB website wasn’t much help.
A Mass in Gaelic is a jarring experience. Ir was beautiful, but I couldn't even distinguish the Our Father in it! LOL
Some bishops lobbied to replace it with the High Five of peace, "in the spirit of Vatican II", but were voted down. :0)
This I forgot to put in, but it all comes down to the word “perception” or the “perception of” about a very highly honored language.
The Sign of Peace is optional. Lobby your priest.
Altar rails, Communion on the tongue and Ad Orientam Masses are coming.
Altar rails and Communion on the tongue are already norms in some churches.
Lobby your Bishop, Lobby your priest!
They will come! The pendulum is swinging back to the right!!!!Hooray!
Have you heard the Lord’s prayer in Aramaic (the language at the time of Jesus)?

I had a friend in high school from Ireland that tried to teach us a few words in Gaelic. When I visited a pub in Ireland in a rural area the language changed quickly from English to Gaelic.
Everything old is new again!
You said it first!
