Back when John Kennedy ran for president he took great pains to make sure everyone understood that his political life was quite separate from his religious life and never the twain shall meet..
And no, he wouldn't genuflect when meeting the Pope or kiss the ring, the pescatorio, ring of the fisherman.

And that mantra has apparently been given the same status as separation of church and state in many Catholic voters minds.
How else to understand a state like Massachusetts with Catholics being about a 50% of voters electing staunch supporters of abortion repeatedly?

Consider well Jesuit priest Robert Drinian, congressman from Mass. who never saw a piece of law supporting abortion that he couldn't support and yet was repeatedly elected until he quit running. He was never disciplined for furthering what Catholics consider a grave sin, in fact he went on to teach at Georgetown, dying with honors galore.

Who knows what constitutes “legitimate Catholic behaviors?” if the leaders don't lead and leave the flock to fend for itself?
