Queen's Role as Head of Church of England 'May No Longer Be Appropriate'

The Queen’s role as head of the Church of England may no longer be “appropriate” following changes to the law of succession, a group of MPs has suggested.

Reforms agreed earlier this year by Commonwealth countries would create a potential conflict of interest because they allow a monarch to marry a Roman Catholic, said a parliamentary committee.

It said that if a future heir to the throne were raised as a Catholic, there would be an “obvious difficulty” in that person becoming head of the Anglican Church on their succession.

Under current laws, the Queen is required to “join in communion” with the Church of England and take on the role of Supreme Governor, promoting Anglicanism in Britain.

The report, by the political and constitutional reform committee, said: “The scenario does beg the question of whether it remains appropriate for the monarch to be required to be in communion with the Church of England.

“The most obvious difficulty in having a Catholic monarch – beyond the purely statutory obstacles – is the Crown’s role as supreme governor of the Church of England.” The MPs said that Parliament “may wish to consider” the current relationship between the monarch and the Church of England.

Last I checked Catholics were also targetted in the Holocaust. Yes, he’s very much a holocaust survivor.

Even if you want to argue that non-Jews murdered in Nazi camps are Holocaust victims (I think that dilutes the term “holocaust” to the point of meaninglessness), the fact remains that distinguished royal prisoners held at Dachau were not put down for murder, and were exempt from the murderous discipline and work routines that systematically drained the life out of so many Catholic priests, communists, homosexuals, Protestant clergy, and other dissidents.

The interesting thing is that if you skip Maria Theresia, you end up with the Carlist, (Don Carlos), who is also the claimant to the French and Spanish thrones.

You are aware the Nazi regime hated the monarchy?

The Nazis sure seemed to like King Edward, and apparently the feeling was mutual.

Considering as he abdicated, one can perhaps see why. He didn’t care much for his heritage or his responsibilities so he fit in perfect with the Nazis.

I thought I had made that clear. But top-tier members of the nobility received special handling, even in the camps. The Nazis didn’t want to pay the political price that would have come with liquidating them, and highly influential and promient aristocrats continued to live and work on the “outside” throughout most of the war.

Better that they were sent to the camps rather than collaborating, as Edward did. Makes all the difference in my mind.
