She was found inside the ship's chapel, submerged up to her shoulders, but in one piece. Fire department divers wrapped her in a white towel, and used a nylon belt to hold it in place so she would not be damaged as they pulled her out.
On Saturday, the plaster statue of the Madonna from the doomed Costa Concordia cruise liner stood in a white tent on the port of Giglio, still wrapped in the same towel.

Yeah, I was gonna say, considering her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last week, they shouldn’t have bothered with the recovery.
Breaking News: Madonna turns out to be a statue meant to represent the Madonna and not the real Madonna.
I guess you have to run that by Christ at the moement of your death — why you did not respect and honor HIS mother, that is.
I seriously doubt that anyone is still drowning a week after the ship sank. This was a salvage effort, not a rescue.

I like a tin foil hat theory as much as the next person, but m wondering if maybe perhaps there were other contributing causes to the downfalls and disasters which you mention?

You should agree with me anyway. If your mom, dad, or other loved one were dead, would you like to think that a “rescuer” went for the icon, vase, or other object or pulled your family member out. It’s indecent to do anything else, unless the objects were in the way. I can’t even believe this is something to debate.
They grabbed the relic first, so that implies it took priority. If your loved one(s) is dead on a shipwreck or other scenario and they send in people to retrieve the bodies but they decide to haul out things while leaving your family member, how would YOU feel? Taking the statue out first showed a serious lack of feeling.
