We Catholics name prayers after the first word or phrase.
“Gloria” is, thus, the name of the prayer which begins, “Gloria, in excelsis deo,” or “Glory to God in the Highest.” It used to continue, “...and peace to his people on Earth.” But its been more accurately translated, “...and peace to people of good will.” That’s the joke. Those are the people of Goodwill.
I'm Catholic too, that's why I was wondering what this was all about.
Thanks for explaining it!
