CNSNews.com) – Shaun Casey, the religious affairs adviser to presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008, said at a discussion on Tuesday about “God and Politics” that the demise of religious society in the United States is a good thing.

“I, frankly, am glad American civil religion is dying,” said Casey, who is an associate professor of Christian Ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.

Casey made the remarks at an event focusing on religion and the 2012 presidential election at the liberal Center for American Progress where he was a panelist along with Gabriel Salguero, president of the National Hispanic Evangelical Coalition.

Any commie hates those religions that worship an almighty God. They want the religion of secularism that worships a different god. It is the god of secularism. That god is divinized man. Just to put in in a more historical light, in the 20th century alone, more people were slaughtered under Secularist God-denying governments, and in the name of secularist ideologies, such as Nazism and Communism, than in all the documented religious persecutions within western history combined!

Civil religion is a broad religious culture that has generally agreed upon principals although very different doctrine. Civil religion is usually accepted even by those who are nonreligious because the effects are generally benign or positive.

America's civil religion is Judeo-Christian. Or maybe I should say was. That was why society in general was tolerant of prayer in public events and generally frowned on out of wedlock pregnancy.

The death of Civil Religion leads to more chaos as there are no longer generally accepted mores. There is only law. And government expands more and more to fill the vacancy left.

**Obama’s Former Faith Adviser is attempting to remove the plumb line to the Cornerstone.**

Absolutely. And Willard isn’t much better.

We need to get on our knees and pray and read the Bible!

I remember Obama saying something about American civil religion, and it wasn’t referring to what we would mean when we talk about traditional Christianity. Of course, Obama said he supported this civil religion. I think it was referring to the desacralized religion of the social worker or sociologist. The first a civil missionary; the second, the civil equivalent of the theologian. If this is what the guy is referring to as dying, God speed.

Leftists are glad America is dying. Hate comes from envy, and so does war. The root cause of war is not religion, but religion makes for a more difficult opponent. Christians have a winning competitive advantage in life, they tend to have more successful marriages, more children, live in bigger houses, drive bigger cars, live longer happier lives, do better in war, sports, and business, and leftists utterly envy them for it. Left unchecked envy matures into hate and violence.

Civil religion is not the same thing as Religion in general.

Civil religion
American civil religion

The only dying part of American religion are the ultra liberal old mainline confessional denominations: ECA, PCUSA, ELCA and the largest Methodist group. Their congregations are dying off and no significant numbers of the young are replacing them. Independent congregations, Pentacostals, Baptists and even the Catholic denomination are increasing and quite healthy thank you very much. Since the cloistered elitists, to the extent they profess to be Christian at all, are in these mainline dying denominations they think all Churches are doing as poorly as theirs are. To the contrary.

“Wesley is spinning in his grave.”
You got that right! Unfortunately many of the institutions and even the denomination he founded have veered off that venerable man’s course. The United Methodist Church, particularly in the Northeast, is unrecognizable as the church of self sacrificing itinerants who spread the gospel of Christ all over the United States in the early years of our nation, as well as in the years before the Revolution. The legacy of John Wesley rests in the many biblically based churches that continue to stand for truth in our country. In these, the spirit of this godly man continues to inspire.

Bible preaching/believing non-denominational churches are thriving.

Unfortunately so are churches that preach prosperity gospel (like Joel Olsteen), but those lost souls are seeking things of this world and not heavenly treasures.

Wesley was a devout follower of Christ. Today his followers are not.

My point exactly; although if "they" actually were his followers, today's "Methodists" would not be acting the way they do.

I've been reading Wesley's A Plain Account of Christian Perfection. My heart aches for what has become of what was once the bedrock of poor and struggling families.

And Joanna and Charles Wesley, too; and Fanny Crosby. It’s tragic. But it ain’t over. The church is not a building and it’s not a denomination, either — “but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth.”

Keep loving. It’s worth the price.

Leftist envy also hates the 10 Commandments which deals with various aspects of envy; including envy of God’s power itself. Envy must be the cardinal sin of mankind. It is also the trump card in the DemonRAT’s playbook (the Race Card for one).
